Yeah, changing to use the steam beta version will restore the direct ip option. Then make sure you have your host file entries set and you should be ready for mp.

I was able to downgrade to the "original_release" version. I can now see "Direct IP Connection". Unfortunately, I can't seem to log into Pitboss 34 and I get this same error three times. Though after the first one, I no longer get that popup that says "Show Details". I only get the other two popups.
I think ipecac and Zalson have both logged into Pitboss 34 so it must be working for them. I guess I'll keep trying this way and at some point I'll look into perhaps restarting this from scratch. But I've definitely made a lot of progress in getting this to work today.
Edit: Or I could check the host file entries that ipecac mentioned in the first post. But I assumed that wasn't needed after reading that linked article. I connected via the explicit IP address.

Hello,
I assume it's the common mistake for PB games with mod: For password protected games you need to use the 100% same mod installation as the Pitboss host.
=> 1. Exact same mod version. Do not change any file manually.
2. Exact path of the mod! The host had installed the mod into [Installation folder of Civ4:BTS]/Mods/[The mod name].
You can not use [My Documents]/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Mods, but the above path. I does not know the exact path for your system. It could be something like ~/.wine/drive_c/Program files/2K Games/Firaxis/....
If you can't find it search for Civ4BeyondSword.exe

[Edit] I overlocked your edit of the post. This should not be no new info anymore…
Unfortunately, one step for a good multiplayer experience is still missing. With the above setup you will block every other player if you join a PB game.
First, look into http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=7544 for a solution.
The simplest way would be the usage of the linked modified executable (Civ4BeyondSword2015.exe, text-editor edit of the original file ^^)
Second, setup your firewall/router to not block port 2057. (already done?!)

I wanted to clarify something quickly: I bought the Mac version of Civ4 from steam, and by that, I mean the version that Firaxis produced.
You need to run Windows versions of Civ 4 (CD or Steam) on PlayonMac.
For steam, then mod then goes into /Users/[user]/Library/PlayOnMac/wineprefix/Steam/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Sid\ Meier\'s\ Civilization\ IV\ Beyond\ the\ Sword/Beyond\ the\ Sword/Mods
ipecac, do you know the location of the directory that we store saved games in? Suppose someone hands me a Civ4 save. I'd like to put it in a directory and then load it using the wine Steam.
In the above directory path you show, if we go in the furthest "Beyond the Sword" file, there's a "PublicMaps" directory where I've been putting in Civ4 WorldBuilder saves. But there seems to be no directory for normal save games (for lack of a better word).
To be clear, here's my directory inside Beyond the Sword:
I can put in that 34 civ map that Brick made inside 'PublicMaps' and successfully load it. However, it does not work with normal civ4 save files. Do you know where those go? I've been searching a bit and also tried creating a 'Saves' folder myself, but it didn't seem to work.
PS: Ramkhamhaeng, thanks for your post. I'll take a more careful look at it later today or tomorrow.

Any update on your success? I tried to get Pitboss to work on a Mac running Wine, and got as far as you did - installed Steam and Civ, could install and start a Mod, but crash when tried to start a direct IP connection.

Did you edit your hosts file?

Haven't had any updates other than what I've reported here. I haven't been able to get in Pitboss 34 (the game we're all in). I will have the time for that next weekend and will try and update progress here.
Zalson, wasn't editing the hosts file optional?

I though editing the hosts file was for if you wanted to use the multiplayer lobby, and not necessary for direct IP connections.

Not ness. for Direct IP connections, but always required for more than two connected instances.
=> A third player could never join if you open a Direct IP game.
=> A second player could not join a PB-Game if you're logged in. (Does not sound critical, but is frustating. Sometimes a move last hours ^^.)
