Pitboss 39 Organizing Thread

We`re still close to having enough players for a Pitboss so let`s just wait for another few days and see if someone else turns up.

At some point we need to make a decision between rtr and bts. Should we wait for the sign-up to close before doing that?

@Charriu: There are two reasons why we usually play with AI diplo here. a) Full diplo takes a lot of time and effort and most players don`t have the time for that (including me) and b) People tend to take stabs much more personally with full diplo. Full diplo led to several rage quits over the early years of Civ 4 and caused bad blood between players.

@JR4 Thanks for the explanation. I read Sullla's report about Pitboss 2 and therefore can understand the issue. Like I said I'm totally fine with AI Diplo.

AI Diplo is good, happy with a PBEM or Pitboss (although more players probably makes it more interesting, no? Honest question, I'm not really sure). RtR sounds good if it's what everyone else prefers as well, no strong preference.

That game was civilized compared to what came later! (Hint is the last two letters of my username.) lol

Are you Lord Parkin in disguise?

Lurker question - what is "AI Diplo"?

Others feel free to add/correct/call me a dope: Diplomacy is restricted to what you could propose/accomplish within the civ interface with actual text messages banned, both inside the interface and in non-interface communications.

Strongly recommend you define more specific guidelines before the game launches, at least around the items that are sometimes allowed and sometimes banned.  It's a lot easier to decide these things now than to discover halfway through the game that someone has interpreted the term 'AI Diplo' differently and gained an advantage that is unfair from one perspective and kosher from another point of view.

For some examples:
- fish for fish deals to indicate peaceful intentions
- copper for copper (or horse, or iron) to indicate something to do with war
- gold amounts to indicate turn countdowns
- cities to indicate locations
- occasionally people add in a specific list of out-of-game messages allowed, to match options that you can ask of the AI but not other humans like 'Declare War on ...'

Some people like these vague sort-of communication options, some people don't.  Best to be all on the same page.

I would not allow these examples and any other way to communicate between players. This feels a lot like the worst between both worlds of AI Diplo and Full Diplo. Also I know that I would be too dense to know what the other person wants from me. biggrin

I am for allowing anything messaging that can be done in the trade menu, primarily for the entertainment of the lurkers when things get misinterpreted.

On a serious note, no naming units/cities to message.

Also, are we going to close sign-ups soon and decide whether we want Pitboss or PBEM, BtS or RtR?
