New Greenies Pitboss? (civ 4)

If you had to rank yourself, where there is Speaker/sulla/tbs/mack.. then middle ground people, then noobs. where would you rank yourself?

I'm the greenest of the green here, and I'm not sure if I want to invest months into a game where I'll be left in the dust from the start. (Though a dedlurker would certainly help here, chumchu!) Also, I haven't looked at what RTR does yet.

I'm still not sure if I understand Pitboss. Here it says that all players can watch the map and select build orders at any time, but only one player can move units, then it passes to the next. Is that correct? I somehow seem to remember from reading some report that players can move simultaneously, and if two are at war, they only get to move on different halves of the turn timer.

Either way, if we set a generous turn timer, this sounds much more relaxed than a PBEM.

Pitboss is imo, the best thing since gamespy multiplayer. Multiple people can login and do things, and only a settler race/war would prevent you from logging in at X time to move X. ect. Would love to have ya!

Who all do we have willing to play in this?-
Who all do we have willing to dedlurker?-
Once we have 5-6 id love to discuss any settings/ect.

Would be happy to dedlurk someone. smile I tend not to be aggressive enough to do well in MP, but can answer questions and moral support and such. Just remember to build way more military than I would. lol

I think I can handle another game, so I'm going all in on this. As for settings:

PBEM or Pitboss: Don't care
RtR: Fine with me
Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
AI Diplo: Would still love full Diplo, but I know I'm in the minority here smile
Espionage: Passive Espionage with spies allowed, but no active spy missions.
Map trading: Don't care when it is allowed (Paper or Writing) as long as it is allowed everythings fine.
Vassals, huts and events: Off
Barbarians: Normal
Blockades: Allowed
Tech Trading: Off
Mods: RtR    CtH

Pitboss: PB39, PB40PB52, PB59 Useful Collections: Pickmethods, Mapmaking, Curious Civplayer

Buy me a coffee

I'm still interested in playing.

Personally, I'm quite happy with a broad definition of "green" for players, so it's fine by me to have people with a PB or two behind them involved, or slightly rusty vetsr. I'm just keen to play - I'm not really skilled enough and it's going to be a time pressure but neither of those is going to improve any time soon, so now is as good as it gets  twirl .

RtR makes the settings discussion a lot easier than BTS. Other than that I'm broadly happy with Charriu's suggested settings - I have a slight preference for barbs "off" to reduce randomness but it's not a deal-breaker.
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore

I’ll still ded-lurk someone, as I said a few pages ago I don’t have the time to commit to actually playing but I’d like some practice with simming/theorycrafting and would be more than happy to bounce potentially disastrous suggestions off of someone.

Current players- Superdeath, RFS-81?, Coeurva, shallow_thought, Elum?, Lewwyn?, Charriu.

Current Dedlurkers- Zalson, masterjason, chumchu.

Did i catch everyone so far? Id prefer a dedlurker per player for this but not a requirement..

7 players, looks pretty good if we can confirm on all of them.

As far as settings..

Pitboss.
RtR.
Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
AI Diplo only. Fish for fish/ copper for copper ect as well. but no gold timers ect.

Im with ya on this too charriu but as ive seen in long-ago threads... it can get pretty heated.
Espionage: RTR espionage. spys not allowed ect.
Map trading: i personally think paper is a fine time for map trading, but i dont care either way on it.
Vassals, huts and events: Off
Barbarians: Normal or off. Not a big deal to myself.
Blockades: would prefer off, because i always thought it was a shit mechanic.
Tech Trading: Off.

I'm happy taking a crack at the map if nobody else wants to. How nerfed to we want Lewwyn's start?
