In regards to city swapping, not once did I consider it dastardly or against game ethics.

It was only when someone brought up the situation with MoM did I really think about what we had been doing, but yet, I do not see anything wrong with it, as it shows that it takes faith and trust between two teams to pull it off. Such alliances don't come by very often.

Couple that with you choice of alliance, lack of communication and refusal of a goodwill nature I took that you intend to encroach on my territory. Squeeze me out and possibly mount an attack on my capital. As there have been attacks on every other member of my trading group I don't believe that it is paranoia am just ensuring that does not happen.

Now this does not need to go beyond my settling of the site unless you choose to make it more of an issue. I had thought of holding back my moves this turn in hopes you moved the axe away a tile but that just isn't they way I want to do things. I was doing my turn so I made all my moves.

My intent is still to build my empire I am just sealing my border.

I am sorry you believe I am the aggressor here but until your comments and actions I thought I had time. Add to that your scouting axe my suspicions have been confirmed. This has been purely a defensive move on my part.

So he thinks that settling aggressively will PREVENT him from getting attacked? Ridiculous.

That is where you are wrong, and now you are simply putting words in my mouth. We have always had peaceful relationships and we had never considering attacking you at any point in time. Your recent actions change that. You settling that aggressive settlement WILL ensure that you will be attacked, not the vice versa. We can remove our axe, but have not retreated so that we can watch your actions.

This is just getting stupid. It only makes me want this game to end even more, before this becomes personal.

Prior to this enlightening conversation I was going to settle the western tundra last. Your warning moved up my schedule.

Obviously, you have overlooked our goodwill towards you and taken advantage of us. Now you are only arguing for the sake of arguing to defend your lack of integrity. Next time I will think again before considering a friendly relationship with you.

Let me say some more why I want to quit from this game.
One of the reasons has to do with diplomacy. Obviously diplomacy plays a major role in MP. Much more than in SP. However, the CIV diplo system is not suited to cope with human-human diplomacy. Example, in SP you can be sure a friendly neighbour will not attack you. In MP you can have built up a friendly relation with another civ for 300turns and then get stabbed in the back. Backstabbing seems to be the single most effecient way to win in MP. Problem is, there are no ingame repercussions. However, there are repercussions outside of the game. A player known to backstab is less likley to be trusted in the next game. That should not be the case, as each game should be viewed as a seperate thing.
I hope they somehow fix that in future versions. Stabbing a civ in the back with which you have very good relations should be punished by happiness/economical penalties.

Next point: Players personalities show through, no matter how much in-character they try to stay. (Applies to me as well, of course.) That said, I don't think the increased MP activity does the RB community much good. Surely, it brings in more members and sparks lots of activity, but also creates friction that I could without.
I actually have to stop communicating with one player, before I think he is just a stupid person. There are more similar examples, but I won't say anymore.
So I pull the safety line right now and go back to SP and appreciate other peoples masterful SP strategies and don't have to worry, whether there is Ivory on the map and Construction is the only right way to survive, etc.

Ok I was confused about the anger of this response and wanted to wait a few days before responding.

I have had some RL stresses and may have been abit more agressive and abrasive in my tone than I normally would have. Between -- and -- made me abit crankier than I usally am.

Now in regard to the game I was not stringing you along nor trying to take advantage of you. I originally intended a peaceful existance but the politics and game situation did not shake out that way. An opportunity arouse for an agressive settlement and I was just negotiating as my civ (little role playing) not as myself.

Anyway, it is a game and I was just playing it as such. I want to appologize if my tone came accross as personal. I did not intend to insult anyone or make things personal.

You probably noticed that we had withdrawn our axeman during the pause following your anger over his placement. I will continue to withdraw him, but only so far. Please do not continue further with your settling party.

I am glad to hear the Broker33 that I am more accustomed to and I hope that your stresses will pass and not interfere with in-game relationships. On the topic of stresses, I wanted to inform you that mh is essentially withdrawing from the game as a result of the ridiculous turn this game has taken, and I will be the primary and sole diplomat for the team.
