Unfortunately the game is now all but decided for Mack, as NoGas decided not to cooperate against him after all. Adding to their treachery they declared war on us and captured a city.
Mackoti offered us peace for the city he was going to take anyway. NoGas did not offer peace. Mackoti's offer was better. It also allows us to go about getting revenge on GoNapSomeoneElseNextTime for their repeated crap. We didn't really retaliate against their aggression last time because we needed to fight Mackoti instead or the game would end, but apparently that's bad policy that makes people come back for seconds. So right - let's go deal with these Pinko Commie Babylastards.
I did offer them a peace treaty, if they give us back our 37 gold and all their cities.
Oh and Rifling is in. Not sure where we'll go next, other than Engineering for the movement bonus. Maybe Military Tradition, maybe Steel.

Btw it's my personal preference at this point to call the game with Mackoti winning. I don't think he can be stopped at this point and I prefer to play games whose outcome is still in doubt. If GasparNoble (don't think I've used that one yet ) or Lewwyn had a chance of victory I'd happily keep playing even without having one myself. But they really don't, they are so incredibly far behind. Mackoti and us are both just a couple turns from cavalry (among other things) and the best thing they can build are Maces (NG) or Pikes+Knights (only just researched by Lewwyn).
And as for us, Mackoti is basically at tech parity with much more land, population and power; better wonders; and a cottage economy compared to our specialist economy which has already spent 10 GP births and 2 golden ages. Sooo... nope. This was in the cards as soon as he built Taj, but we hung around and tried to stop him 3v1. But that is obviously not happening now.
Anyway, I tend to favor calling games sooner rather than later as you may know. And now would be when I consider the outcome sufficiently unquestionable that we should all redirect our time to fresh games. I do realize other people enjoy playing things out more than I do though...
What do you think, Novice?

I'm not playing out one of our games without you again.
So I'm good with calling it. I wouldn't want to force that decision on anybody else though. So how do we do that?
I wouldn't be surprised to get a sore loser stamp if we call it at this point, but hey - time is a precious commodity.
I have to run.

So when did you do that...?

I won't abandon you. 23 had unusual circumstances outside of the actual game. This game has seen some annoying in-game stuff (of course, what game doesn't) but it hasn't hit me personally at all. I think everyone playing is just swell!

We just need to play in a game where we aren't in the top two positions. The fact is that the player in second place has the greatest stake in whether the game is called.
I value time quite highly. We could be playing this, or we could be playing another game where the decisions are more interesting because the outcome is less clear. Winning or losing I'll go for the less clear one every time.

I tried to phrase that in a manner that acknowledged you, but I guess we didn't actually play it out. So it should have said "not playing on without you again" instead.
Anyway, again, big kudos to you for your help there, Spaceman.

Haha, it's ok, I wasn't pushing for a compliment, I was merely poking fun that you weren't really playing the turns much after Seven left either...

You can't exclude metagame stuff like that for him but not for us. And furthermore remember that we are last in turn order. Without that we would be quite a few beakers ahead due to the trade route bug not hitting us and also we'd win turn tiebreakers in wonder races, so I am confident we could have gotten the Mausoleum in that case.
I'm still very happy with this game, I think we did an amazing job with our position. And if we got an engineer instead of a scientist to rush the Taj we would be winning right now.
It's bothersome to think that the game may be decided by metagame stuff but I don't know how to avoid that. Always War helps a bit...
I just read this last page of your thread, nothing else yet, but I have to agree with this. I had fun even though I knew I was going down.
Not a bad time.

This lurker wouldn't mind seeing you guys as opponents in the same game sometime... you're both strong players, would be fun to see you face off.
