We are aiming for the FOREST. We must be ready to cut roads to Richard Nixon while bombarding. I will try to paint some details in the evening.
Ah, right; cutting off the road East was not something I had thought about. I had identified the hill because it might give our injured Cavs a turn or two to heal outside of their borders. We may only have lost 1 Cav so far and had 2 withdrawals (which I guess makes up for our 0/2 on Grens), but we only have 4 left at full health, with 3 on 50-75% and two redlined with no promos available. And no healer. If Pete Rose pops a unit IBT, that will cost us another healthy Cav to deal with.
The top unit in Lance is oriented South, so it had advanced past the city before returning. I agree that's probably almost his entire force sitting there, but the question is how fast he can add more. I'm guessing that he will have 7-8Rifles in Lance Armstrong by the time we attack; after all our injuries, do we have enough to deal with that?

We need medic, thats why I asked about GG, but medic cav can do. They can heal 1 turn while bombarding, but I fear we can only do it inside of his borders. Lets see if we can let wounded cavs rest for 2 turns, I need to examine our position after we see whats with his borders this turn. Unfortunately REM blocked me in the morning and I couldnt be online on the turn roll.
Fyi, I made some simulations and against 7-8 rifles our stack works in the best way. Lets see how many can he have but I think that without nationhood he can get more within the given timeframe.

I think we have just 1 Cav left with 2 promos to take, so I'll try to avoid doing that for now if possible. I did consider adding Medic to the Charge Cav that took Tigers, but settled on Pinch as I thought it would be less likely to take damage and more useful moving forward.
BTW, I did send a quick note to Gaspar after declaring war and asked how he felt about logging in outside the split, but I never got any reply. Which seemed a bit impolite to me.
Also, Donovan tends to either play sometime during the day or pretty late (US time) so he might not have been waiting for REM this turn - plus I took a look at the tile SE of his city that I thought might be a Fort (it isn't) and there were a couple more units there including 1-movers that couldn't have reached REM's border last turn. Since REM played the turn roll though, he has free reign to do so tonight.

In the worst case his borders has popped so we have the following picture:
T290 - slow stack is on the 887 from LA. Wounded Cavalry with medic moves to TW.
T291 - slow stack advances to the forest 87 from LA, Cav takes Pete Rose. Wounded Cavs are healing in city for +30% HP (right?)
T292 - slow stack goes to green watermill, full hp cavalry goes into the forest, the rest of cavs continue healing.
T293 - we bombard and possibly cut the way to Richard nixon with machine gun. The rest of cavalry gets into the forest.
T294 - we attack city.
If medic saves +10% hp to at least 2 other cavs it is worth having it. We have 8 cavs total and at least half of them are seriously wounded, so if we heal for 2 turns, medic will bring us almost 1 extra cavalry.

Other thoughts:
If we're buying a Settler in the near future, we should do it in Geese. It still has its Forge and I've already chopped the Forest Hill into it (from outside borders while in revolt) and there are another two forests that will be in popped borders that we can chop into it as well.
I still think we need to plant a second island city sooner rather than later; more for the extra trade route income than the extra Happiness (although that would be welcome). Our current break-even is 10% with all these supply costs.
Does the 300h for a Settler to replace Pete Rose outweigh the expenses of adding another (revolting) city, or should we just raze it?
Oh, and the trailing Rifles behind Tigers; are they trying to meet up with the main stack, or heading to MP in Camels?

We actually still have 9 Cavs:
4 full health (2x at Pete Rose, 1x 88 from Tigers, 1 with 1-move stack)
12.5/15
9.3/15
9/15
2 Redlined
(I marked health on the screenshots for reference)
Sounds like the Medic will be useful. If the borders don't pop, the plan proceeds the same; but they just have 1 turn to heal rather than 2.

Have you chopped forest during revolt?? those hammers just disappear... Yes, buying it in one of the front cities is the best if you ask me.

What do you gain from razing it? Plain city with no builsing ia better than nothing. We can start drafting from it in like 10 turns. And even for us settlers are damn expensive!

And here is my Civ IV mechanics lesson for today! Interesting; it claimed I'd be getting the hammers when I performed the chop, so I didn't give it a second thought. Ooops.
