Combat casting skill question:
Does the Magic screen point distribution influence my casting strength in combat? If I put all my available points to Magic Research and none to Skill or Mana, does it weaken my wizard's combat casting power in any way?

Your combat casting skill is the exact same as your overland casting skill, so yes, if you don't produce any SP, your combat casting skill will not increase (unless you build Amplifying Towers).

I have to defend my city in the current turn. Does it help me in this one combat if I put all my points in the Skill section on the Magic screen .. can I maybe cast more spells during this one combat? Or it won't effect this current battle?

That's not how skill works. SP generated that way increases you casting skill permanently, not for the duration of a turn, and you earn the power and thus the SP at the end of the turn, which is after the battle.

Aha! Thank You!  So I build it up gradually. Nice!

Research toward uncommon arcane

If I'm eyeing an uncommon arcane spell, but it is not immediately available at game begin to research.. is there any viable tactics on which specific realm or type spells to select on the Research Screen, in order to work my way toward - increase the chance - that I might get the uncommon arcane next time?

I'm trying to select the simplest, quickest to research spells, because I hoped that I'll eventually get to the uncommon arcane.. But so far I'm snowed in with low level spells on the research screen. The Research algorithm is always giving me low level spells to research continuously. No higher level spells appear in the offered Research screen that would suggest I'm getting warmer.

You can only get an uncommon spell after there are no more common spells left. Trading for those spells instead of researching them can make it go faster.

Finally I found my favorite and Desperately Important™ Summon Hero spell in a Monster Lair! :D :D :D
I realized, if I can't have enough destruction & chaos in this game, its no fun. So I had to create a chaos-death wizard specializing in Skillz of War, so not supermassively boring Life spellbook wizardry at all. :D

Crack's Call on levitating / flying hero:

My Nature Wizard opponent frequently kills my current favorite and highest level hero, Malleus with Crack's Call, although Malleus is permanently flying. :D I read the description lamenting Nature has little in the way to stop chaos heroes. So I imagine, when the battle begins, Malleus graciously touches down onto the floor and dons his Combat Slippers. Then the Nature Wizard immediately casts Crack's Call on him and Malleous shrugs his shoulder looking at the abyss opening below his feet:
- Okay.. I guess, I have to die now..

:D

Reloading the Save State doesn't help, because the game already saved its dice roll where-ever, so the results are the same. Only if I bring some plus units, then has Malleous a chance.

Crack's Call does not work on flying heroes.
Either he was webbed, or he had Windwalking instead of Flying.
