I'm taking part in the Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta this year after skipping the last. Went with Pure Chaos mode, which allows any job to be chosen at any crystal with equal odds, for a change. Starting job was Summoner, which is probably even weaker than White Mages - no Protect, no Flail, not even Cure. Magissa and Forza were beaten at Level 10 by moving all but one Summoner into the back row and plinking away with the front row guy; that way, Forza's hits were manageable enough that the other three could keep up with heavy Potion use.
The point of doing it that way was to save the Frost Rod for Garula, but as I realized he's vulnerable to Remora's Paralyzation so I could have saved myself some grief there. I haven't had any particularly tough spots since then; right now the team is preparing to enter the Library of the Ancients with Summoner/Monk/Time Mage as the classes so far. I generally dislike competitive shooters (mainly because I'm terrible at them), but I've been enjoying Overwatch so far. My tag is scooterf#1958 if you or anyone else wants to add me. I don't play a ton - just here and there. I've also been playing the new Zelda finally. It's really fantastic if you enjoy a mixture of (ultra-satisfying) exploration and bite-sized puzzle solving. The game is designed around giving you an array of options for solving problems rather than figuring out how the dev intended you to solve the problem, and I find that especially enjoyable. It's crazy but they are completely separate from all the other Blizzard servers. I had to make a Chinese account.

Recently finished Tyranny; the combat is comparable to Pillars of Eternity, and it's as wonderfully pretentious as you'd expect an Obsidian CRPG to be, but the story ends abruptly and it doesn't look like there will be a sequel coming any time soon. Overall a frustrating experience.
Currently playing the Malmouth expansion for Grim Dawn- I'm enjoying the new content overall, but some of the new enemies are pretty obnoxious- a lot of them have boss-level health pools and/or abilities which reduce your maximum HP by a significant portion, which can lead fights dragging out and characters suddenly dropping dead from blows which would otherwise normally trigger contingency healing abilities.
I've been playing through Steamworld Dig 2, a sort of Metroidvania game in which you dig your way through the levels in search of ore and gems while following the story. These can be used to upgrade your character and equipment, which in turn enables you to dig deeper and reach new areas with more valuable ore, etc.
Metacritic for PC is 85%, IGN gives an 8.8 rating: http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/09/21/s...g-2-review The only minor negative point I noticed is that the game is a bit on the short side. It can be beaten in under 10 hours, so unless you're a completionist who enjoys finding all available collectibles, waiting for the Steam X-mas sale might be a good idea. The normal price is $19.90.
I haven't played the first part, but every review I've read beforehand agreed that Steamworld Dig 2 is better game.
IIRC, some changes are: - SD2 has "handcrafted" levels vs procedurally generated levels in SD1? - SD2 is supposed to be bigger/longer - SD1 was mainly about digging downwards, while SD2 has a more of a free world that you have to explore in all directions - less monotonous graphics in SD2 - I am not sure about this one, but I think someone wrote the checkpoint system in SD1 is a bit annoying, because you have to collect a resource in order to activate the checkpoints? In SD2, there are certain gates throughout the world that serve as checkpoint/fast travel network and these are automatically activated once you reach them
I have apparently put 40+ hours into Prey since picking it up in the Thanksgiving Sale (sorry to anyone waiting on the next XCOM2 mission). I'm not usually an FPS guy and am playing on easy mode so can't really offer insight into the combat, but am having a blast exploring the station and following all the side quests - esp. tracking down those last few hidden bodies.
However, for the next couple of weeks I expect to be playing "wrapping ~57billion Christmas presents so the kids can have a Magical Time".... |
