Leader / Civ selection

Maybe. Though the UU leaves a lot to be desired, and the starting techs (Mysticism/Hunting) are about the worst you could get. Nice UB though, and pairs well with Organized.

Not doing too well so far on the pairing picks minigame. lol

In the lead so far are Amelia, Nabaxo and Slowcheetah - who are all on 2 correct guesses.

Slowcheetah seems to be remarkably good at these guessing games. wink I reckon he'll be right with CFC picking Huayna too, though I can't change my pick because I already went with Huayna on Civfr and was wrong.

Civfr - Willem:
Amelia
Nabaxo
Shoot The Moon
Slowcheetah
Sunrise089
Waterbat

Civfr - Maya:
alright

UCiv - Mehmed:
Cyneheard
Lord Parkin
Nabaxo
Slowcheetah

PAL - Aztecs:
Amelia

Something weird to note: every single team that has picked a civ so far, aside from us, has chosen a civ that starts with Mysticism. Possibly coincidence, but isn't it odd?

It's good for us, as it makes an already weak tech weaker by making it at minimum a 5-way fight between the early religions (and that's before any of the remaining 3 civ votes).

Also might mean that Stonehenge will be a multi-way fight. Probably fine for us, as I doubt we were really considering it anyway.

Maya - Mysticism/Mining
Holy Rome - Mysticism/Hunting
Aztec - Mysticism/Hunting
India - Mysticism/Mining
Inca - Mysticism/Agriculture

So far only one other team has Agriculture, and no-one has The Wheel! yikes Pretty weak starting techs all around from our opponents.

Yeah, we'll need to do the old fashioned way using monuments and settling for 1st ring resources.

Feel like mentioning the 'henge to people in diplomacy, like you did to Mackoti :P?

You mean trying to discourage them from building it? Or pretending that we're building it? Or both? tongue

The mysticism civs tend to have the strongest UUs/UBs from my observation. In addition to those chosen, there's also Byzantium. Thing is, starting techs are very important. Especially with the big map and high difficulty. Agriculture and the Wheel are 108 beakers each. Starting with a tech you don't use for a while is a gigantic penalty. Plus we are literally up 54 beakers on Aztecs already just because our starting techs are more expensive.

Just checked, and that's 5/10 of the civs that start with Mysticism. The others remaining are:

Arabia - Mysticism/The Wheel
Byzantium - Mysticism/The Wheel
Celtia - Mysticism/Hunting
Korea - Mysticism/Mining
Spain - Mysticism/Fishing

At least 1-2 of those seem to have some likelihood of being chosen in the remaining 3 civ picks too (Korea and Byzantium).

Indeed... roughly 5-6 turns headstart in the early game.

PAL are the online MP team, aren't they? They could be very dangerous with Jaguars and abusing the Sac Altar's whipping power.

Jags, pfft, not scary. Only dangerous in heavily wooded areas, when they can fork cities. And even then, they can't kill axes.

Sac Altars, yep, they are nice. Sac Altars aren't as good on Quick Speed as on Normal, but we're on Normal.
