[SPOILER] The Steak, Beer, and Cigar Saloon

We viking kitties are not ashamed to admit when we're scared shitless at the prospect of having our pretty sand castles stomped on. I'm #1 in crops! With a 12-turn GA impending, this is going to be such a pretty sand castle heart

Speaking of viking kittens, here is a secret message from our command HQ. I was instructed to deliver it to you personally Commodore.

The WCC has left for Texas for a month and a half! There's no stopping me for about another month. Can you guess which zanth pretties I'm foaming-at-the-mouth jealous about this time?

I'm guessing you're mad about all the IND teams being lazy and letting the FIN game leader get the Colossus so late?

That's a fairly accurate summary of my first three weeks of freedom, yeah. Pizza included.

No, I already foamed about zanth coasting leisurely to Oracle and Colossus. I'm not really done foaming about that, but that wasn't my object of affection on this particular turn. This one is your fault (obviously). Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure it's also your fault zanth got Oracle and Colossus. Somehow.

Obviously you are upset that zanth is surrounded by jungle, while your land contains literally hundreds of free hammers in forest form. I respect the nobility of your sentiment; kind of a Conan-esque "he will not cry, so I cry for him" mentality. Very manly.

Close, but not quite Bob!

That said, I did notice that zanth possesses far fewer luxuries than me. I still think it's a huge scoop to have gold on your doorstep when I had one shitty elephant over by Jowy's border, but it's definitely helping me now that I have all these calendar luxuries while he seems to be stuck on Gold + Incense. Also, good point that I don't know how many forests he had to begin with, I certainly had a huge hammerfest in my neighbourhood. I only see a teeny-weeny bit of jungle over there now, I suppose based on your comment that he had a decent amount of jungle earlier and not as many forests as myself. Not that this will make me whine any less, of course, but they're good observations.

Turn 116

Nothing much to report this turn. Getting Moai and failgold next turn, Great Scientist + Civil Service + Golden Age the turn after. Always Wrong will be size 12 shortly, ripe to foster an army of specialists. I sent a bunch of rivals an offer to buy my marble for 5 gpt, will see if anyone bites. Also going to auction off my stone shortly, although I'm not sure if I want any walls up in my western cities. Culture is slow there, and a cheap jump from +20% to +50% would be welcome. zanth recently purchased stone from BaII for 7 gpt (offered me 5 gpt for it), I wonder what he's up to. Could be Moai, less likely options are Haga Sophia or even Chichen Itza.

Someone gave birth to a great scientist this turn, GPs have been popping up here and there lately. I wish I'd kept track of who got what. Next game I'm definitely rethinking my C&D refusal, I think I can do it in a time efficient manner if I prepare properly.

Turn 117

Moai

I'm pleased with this location, 3 lake tiles + 1 seafood and both the hammer and the culture help out lots here. I didn't get failgold this turn as feared, but I'd managed to scrounge up enough cash that I can finish Civil Service by the skin of my teeth (I'm able to get it without additional wealth builds and with 5 gold to spare).

I'm able to settle this region soon, here's what I'm looking at so far. The barbarian city is S of the gems over there, would fit in nicely if I manage to snag it before Nakor or slowcheetah does. The "Or here?" location for a lake/spice city marks the equi-distant point between me and slowcheetah. Not that it matters immensely at this point, but it's still a useful point of reference. He may well feel that expanding into the NW peninsula is going too far into his territory, and that he has dibs on the barbarian city.

Busy workers
[Image: 117workers.jpg]
- The two NW workers are helping to chop out a settler
- The W worker is building mines for Deprivation while I still have peace with Nakor
- Two workers hiding under the spear south of the spices are heading NE to farm the flood plains and the grassland up there
- The worker NW of silk to the east is heading north to build the rice connecting farm
- The two workers east of Dishes will split up, one stays in the area and one heads north to help with the farming project up by the rice

Demos

Golden Age will be launched next turn, yay! I've finally caught up in Population, I used to be very low because of my small cities. While that wasn't a problem in itself, it was symptom that I wasn't growing my good cities to their potential.

Cities
[Image: 117cities.jpg]
And here's a look at them. Notice the high number of markets I'm building. They're usually not a very popular choice because of how expensive they are. I feel they're justified, I'm producing 50% more gold than beakers (60/40 split at break-even) and I get +3 happiness from each market. I also don't need extra culture in most of the cities producing markets, hence the lower priority placed on libraries.

In other news, zanth teched Music and got a GA and slowcheetah revolted to Caste System (no GA, no other switches). I'm puzzled he'd spend a turn on just Caste System, seems expensive for the advantages conferred. I guess he's far away from both a GP and Monarchy.
