Aha. Thanks for the clarification. I was not sure, since I did not receive any email back from you, though I have been trying to keep on the outskirts. I have to say that, at least on my monitor, your gray borders are hard to distinguish, especially in the tundra and forest.

I will move him around - is there free passage around your borders to the south and west?

I have to say that I was disappointed to not get a reply from you to my letter of last week (quoted below). When I saw your original letter, I was hopeful that our 2 nations could use that as the start of more close relations, and I thought that my reply indicated that.

I'm sure you were just busy or maybe didn't know what to say in reply. In any case, I hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts / ideas on how we might begin to work more closely. With the Lins getting recently spanked by Krill, the alliance dynamics are definitely changing (whether either of us want them to or not), and it seems to be in both of our best interests to work proactively to make sure we end up on the good side of the future (whatever that might be)

I do keep meaning to post some pictures but never feel like it when I am sitting down in-game in the evenings. I will try to repent of that!!

Hi everyone,

It seems that we haven't talked much lately. I was wondering what every one else was thinking about our relationship and how (or maybe even if?) it should continue.

We have a lot of things that have been going on: the Krill / Lins war, Imhotep's power rising on the other side of the world. So far, we have been keeping pace technologically, but I am not sure how long that will continue (not to mention we are almost certain to lose the Liberalism race).

I guess I just wanted to see what everyone else was thinking

Techwise I have Guilds in 5 but I can only sustain that if I get about 80 gold for each of the next 5 turns. If not, then I will have to spend a turn or two on cash (which I can do - just setting expectations). I know ZPV just did Engineering, and Broker will be done with Lit in I believe 3 turns.

So thoughts?

Haven't heard from you but that's okay. I did see your post in the public player's thread. I didn't feel like my capital was all that great, but I did have a rice and a plains hill so I guess I can't complain. I saw Sullla posted in your thread so maybe he gave additional comments.

So the other day I was trying to think about what you might be interested in doing now. You seem to be pretty pessimistic about your chances to win in this game, and underestandably if that is the case, don't really want to spend that much time with the game, instead choosing to focus on other (better) games.

Would you be interested in people just coming in and declaring war and eliminating you, so you wouldn't have to be in this game? I will say that I've had a few folks start discreetly asking around if I'd be interested in joining them in attacking you. I think they were thinking more of just the opportunity, but if that was something you'd actively encourage, I'm sure we could make it happen.

I even had a crazy thought of you just vassaling yourself or maybe even letting me log in and play your turns. Though I did think that last one probably wouldn't fly if people found out, so maybe that's a bit TOO crazy :-)

Then there's always the joint military action - at least going out in a blaze of glory...

I know that when I have been in the types of position you may find yourself in this game in other games I've been in, I try to look for either a) something fun to do (like a quest or mission) or b) someone to put me out of my mercy so I can move on. If you're interested in one of those things, just let me know

Well we've obviously been preoccupied recently, but since we have now secured a 75t NAP we are ready to move towards holding our own in the alliance. With no need to abuse the whip for a while, we should grow pretty quickly and start to be able to tech in our own right soon enough.

We do have a fair chunk of an army sitting around right now - mostly WE & Cats, but some L-Bows - if anyone feels like they need some or all of it, please let us know and we'll march it on over. (faster now with Eng!)

We have also just started generating a Great Scientist, which might be available for use to bulb Philo or even part of Education if we think there's a chance of getting back into the Lib race ... right now an Academy is not much use!

We have been using our gpt to sub Broker now that our economy is starting to pick up; but I don't think he's been using the full amount, so excess would be available to put towards your expenses too.

So with a ZPV replacement coming by shortly, I sent an email off to Sunrise

Hey Sunrise,

Thought I would drop you a note as we appear to be getting close to a ZPV replacement. Unfortunately it seems like you and I (and to a lesser extent Broker and the Lins) are going to bear the worst possible brunt of this.

I am sure it has crossed your mind that Krill, Shadyforce and the rest of the NUTA will be lobbying hard to get this new guy online, especially if any of them have any sort of previous relationship with him (I don't think I am familiar with him at all)

Some possible consequences that would stink would be

Refusal to trade us Engineering
And / or trading Engineering to the NUTA
Signing peace with shadyforce
Teaming up with shadyforce to attack me.

etc etc

So I thought that we might spend some time thinking about what and how we might handle this.

I have purposely not included broker and the lins because I am not sure how the alliance structure is going to shake out and I didn't want to leave any options un-explored. I did figure that you and I, with our Hindu religion and shared agreements, were probably going to end up on the same side for sure.

Thoughts?

I do think that I am proably the person most up for a potential screwjob with a ZPV replacement. I guess it all depends on how it goes, which is why I am trying to mitigate things right off the bat.

The basic gist was

a) we should stick together
and b) we're screwed :-)

We agreed to try and get the new ZPV onbaord, but to also reach out to ruff - with the thought being that ruff and imhotep were the ones most likely to be "the losers" of the NUTA

I then emailed ruff as follows

Hey Ruff and TAD,

So with the break in the game, I thought it would be good to just check in with you.

I'm not sure what all happened with ZPV. It's kind of hard to know what is going to happen with his replacement, since it's unclear whether or not ZPV will ever come back. Things that might make sense if we were getting a replacement for the rest of the game might not make sense if ZPV is going to just show up tomorrow, if that makes sense.

Still, it seems to make sense to try and make some plans. It has not escaped my attention that the members of the NUTA might try and petition hard to get him to join your side. It may even be that the guy who signs in has a good existing relationship with someone in the game already (I don't know him at all). I don't mean to suggest anything improper - I don't think that someone is bringing in a replacement to act as any sort of puppet or vassal - just that an existing relationship might make it more likely to join with that person, should it exist at all.

But all that being said, you seemed like a pretty natural person to reach out to. I feel like we have had a few good conversations, although we have not yet really worked very closely together in this particular game.

And also, when I thought about who might potentially end up on the short side of the new-NUTA (NNUTA?), you (and Imhotep) were the ones that came to mind. Now obviously I don't know a whole lot about the dynamics of your group - how tight you might be, what agreements you have in place, etc., so I don't know if that is an accurate perception or not.

But let's say that the new-ZPV joins you and the 7 of you take out me, the Lins, sunrise and Broker. At some point, that 7-person alliance becomes somewhat unstable. Who are the winners? It seems like it's Krill, dsp, and mostly-harmless (i.e. the 3 folks who are already clogging up the top of the leaderboard), with you, ZPV, shady and Imhotep as natural targets. Maybe the 5 of them take out you and Imhotep, first, before turning on themselves.

Again, I'm kind of on the outside there, so I don't know if that seems likely or unlikely to you.

So what am I offering? What about something like an end-game deal with you, me and sunrise. We could role-play something Hindu in there, but we'd have to convert you to the "one true faith" first :-). But then we get you and hopefully the new ZPV on board, and then WE have the numbers, but more importantly, we both have a shot at the end-game, something that looks a little sketchy for both of us at this point.

Anyways, let me know what you think or if you have better ideas

Thanks for joining the Realms Beyond pitboss game - I thought I would introduce myself. I am Hatshepsut of India and we are somewhat of neighbors.

I dont' check my CFC PMs much, but you can easily get a hold of me at [deleted]

I did think it might be useful to give you a brief history / overview of how things have gone in this game. Obviously it's only from my side, so it may not tell the whole story, but hopefully combined with what you might hear from other powers and your spoiler thread.

As you probably have seen, we are neighbors. Early in this game, 5 of us agreed to a technology trading agreement for the first round of trades. It was originally Sunrise, the Lins (Dreylin / Kalin) and myself, and was expanded to Broker33 too. I realized that signing an agreement without both of my immediate neighbors probably wasn't the smartest move, so I campaigned to allow one more civ. After debating between which one to choose, I chose you (over shadyforce). Well not YOU, but ZPV which turned into you, if that makes sense :-). Krill lobbied very hard to be part of this group, but we debated it and eventually decided against it. I don't know if it was fear of their abilities (Krill and Memphus are both very good players) or Krill's somewhat abrasive diplomatic style or what. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake

But anyways we swapped Math, Alpha, Iron Working, HBR and Monarchy. Broker actually got Feudalism from the Oracle, which he also traded around. We have continued making agreements for the next 3 rounds. The last one was where you researched Engineering, which judging from CivStats you accepted my trade / request for that - thanks! I have Guilds in a few turns which I can turn over to you.

In the meantime, ZPV approached me with an agreement. I would let him settle an extremely forward city near the horses - in exchange, he would train Numidian Cavs and eliminate shadyforce. He would get the horse city and one other one to its SE, and I would get the rest. He said that he would do it himself and did not need me to train any troops for the war. We hammered a few details out but eventually agreed on it. Unfortunately, dsplaisted and shadyforce combined to raze that city and one other one. I declared war in protest but did not really have the forces to do much about it and have since declared peace. I believe ZPV signed peace with dsp and is still at war with shadyforce. I'm not sure what his plans were in that regard - as you mentioned, with the tech pace going so fast, it is hard to do much warring....

So the other 6 folks (Imhotep, Krill, shady, ruff, dsplaisted and mostly_harmless) declared that the 5 of us were the "UTA". I am not sure what that stands for but something trading alliance or agreement I think. They signed the "NUTA" which was the "New" whatever UTA stands for. So they have been swapping techs too.

But on the other side of the world, Krill built up a huge city base with his expansive Incans and whipped out a huge army and took it to the Lins. He took a city and I believe they have since signed peace. But the Lins (and even sunrise to some extent) have not been able to help as much technologically since they had to focus on military. They have mostly been feeding you and I gold so that we can stay on 100% research. As I mentioned I will have Guilds in a few turns.
