Football Manager 2010 SG talk

I´m going to be out of this one for a while with computer problems (see FfH PBEM7 tech thread for details). But with the lack of activity this game may be dead anyway, so a new start up may be best.

OK I'm going to go with the assumption that the game has died.

So with that out of the way, do we want to start up another SG, leave the idea die, or run a different type of game (e.g. a let's play where one person plays but asks for periodic advice and help, a demo game where we all make the decisions but one person plays or a challenge where parameters are set and everybody independently has to achieve them)?

I'm up for another game of some kind.

I'm open to suggestions about what to do. What might be best is some kind of game with participation from everyone onto one game as I think we do have different strengths which may come together best.

With Mist and his training & attributes knowledge, my scouting and tactical strength and Brian's on motivation and just general all round good play plus other contributors, a 'lets play' or SG may work best.

I'm not sure a journeyman would be the best idea this time, as I think to keep long-term interest it may be better to do something a little different.

Maybe we could do some kind of sign up & create a team for Realms Beyond where RB people can have a player in their name and we create them and try and bring the club up through the ranks from BSN/S or something?

We make them all superstar potential and we then sell them for decent money and track their careers and we then see who has the best career at the end of it.

I think that may be the best plan. If it sounds interesting, I'll try and flesh out some more details.

RB United Sign Up

- We create up to say 30 players with potential 200 - each RB'er can pick their own positions and maybe 5 attributes at 20

- Create a team (name to be decided) of something like RB United and put them in Blue Square North/South. We can create a stable club/super rich club with Poor/Average/super facilities & stadium and then try and bring them up to the Premiership and make them super strong.

- We sell the superstars when a bid of a certain amount comes in (say 400k/500k) so they can further their careers and then we can track them in the thread and everyone can see how well they are doing!

- As we are staying at one club, we are focused on it and so don't have to worry about rushing through leagues for a rep boost or taking other jobs and can also take our time to learn

That sounds like a fine idea TT. I'm not too good with the current database, I find it a bit too complicated to get everything right, but I'd definitely be up for it.

For myself, when I actually used play and wasn't a fat slob, I was a Roy Keane type midfielder, except slower and shorter (built like a tank though, so no-one ever muscled me off the ball) and with a sweet shot from 25-30 yards and inch perfect passing.

My vitals back then were:
height: 5'5" (1.65m) (actually probably a bit shorter)
weight: 12 stone 7 pounds (80kg), well probably a shade heavier but no fat.

Strengths:
strenght, stamina, passing, long shots, determination, technique.
Weaknesses:
pace, acceleration, aggression (not dirty just prone to losing the rag), finishing & agility (remember, built like a tank).

Glad to see you like the idea Brian - I'll set up a sign up thread as that will be the best way to do it.

I'm familiar with the editor so I will be able to create the database pretty quickly once the details are up.

I'll give it a week or two for people to sign up then I'll close it up and get everything ready for us to start.

The only things we need to decide are:

Club Finances: - Typical BSN / BSP / League 1 or 2 / Sugardaddy

Training Facilities (1-20) - Basic (1-3) / Adequate (4-6) / Average (7-9) / Good (10-14) / Very Good (14-17) / Top (18-20)

Youth Facilities (1/20) - Basic (1-3) / Adequate (4-6) / Average (7-9) / Good (10 - 14) / Very Good (14-17) / Top (18-20)

Stadium Capacity - <2000 / 2000 - 4000 / 4000 - 6000 / 8000-10000 / 10000-30000/ Super Stadia

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would vote for Adequate Facilities, finances not too good (as we will get plenty from selling players) and a stadium capacity of 4000-6000. They are good to start with but with plenty of room for improvement.

This is the kind of club I am thinking of setting up for this next SG (if others are interested in playing along - otherwise it's a lets play). I would like your thoughts on whether this is the right level of difficulty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starts in Blue Square North

Club Reputation of Top Blue Square Premier Side

Finances - Around League 2 wage budget but no real transfer budget and starting balance of say +£1m.

Stadium - 6000 capacity with average 4000 attendance

Facilities - 5/20 for both Training and Youth

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that with the reputation, we should be able to attract enough players of a decent calibre to replace the superstars who will probably sell relatively quickly, but not a superb level of player which means we will steamroller up the leagues.

Finances will be a bit more solid than AFC Wimbledon's were so that we shouldn't hit major debt trouble so the long term stability is good, though the money we get from selling the stars should set us up for long enough to reach a decent level.

Stadium & attendance gives us a bit of backing but, along with the facilities, there is plenty of room for improvement.

What do you think?

I'd up the main training facilities a bit, maybe to 10. Wimbledon's were in the 5 region (8 IIRC) and we saw how much trouble that caused wrt improvement.

I'd definitely be up for it.

Oh and maybe we could "sell" the stadium naming rights and team naming rights, and even design our own badge, to have some sort of identity like WH last year and his only with kids game.

I don't mind upping the training a bit, I just want us to still be building up a club rather than just raising a well set up club quickly up to its proper level.

Also, the superstars will likely not be at the club for more than one season, so they will do most of their development at much better clubs.

I don't mind us setting up our own badge, the only problem is that I have no idea how to incorporate it into the game.

'Selling' the stadium name / team naming is ok, though it could just leave us with too easy a challenge with so much money early on.

As regards the badge it shouldn't be too hard to incorporate as extra data (all players would have to dl it though). And what I meant by "sell" was more to have a competition on the site for the naming rights to each here and give it to the best responses, or maybe see who would buy us the most pints.

Definitely put the training facilities up a bit - obviously any kids who don't get sold the first summer are going to be a bit behind, but at 5/20 anyone who's still around in September will suffer a serious setback with respect to catching up to their potential, which would be a sad thing to happen early in the game.

If you're worried about the facilities making the club too strong, you could always take the money out of the initial budget - prospect sales should boost that quickly.
