Of course he will be annoyed with some of the lurker's thoughts but because he will not be very angry nothing special will happen. It is hard to get very angry at something that was posted over three months ago and I think there will not be a lot of posts for three months and the game will take at least that long. This assumes that he will be reading this thread at all...
Sulla's comment yesterday is most revealing:
Quote:...We can ride this thing out as long as need be. No one's conquering us, and we could always turtle to a space win if need be. They are still not even considering the possibility that culture might be used to attain victory. Team 2's tech choices have been casually placed in the "loony bin", without full consideration. Meanwhile Team 1 have far too much faith in their own (clearly superior) tech and military. Which in 95% of games, it is true, do pave the road to victory. If Team 3 ends up beating Team 2 to a pulp, Team 2's cultural victory might never come to pass, and Team 1 will never know how close they might have come to losing a game they'd already won. And it is on this minor, but important detail, that Team 3 have shown themselves to be "Real Men of Genius" - even if they don't win as a result. timski Wrote:Sulla's comment yesterday is most revealing: Team 1 by not understanding that team 2 is going for a culture win might force team 3 to waste production killing them. This is one reason I don't like these games. Mistakes can help you! ![]() Team 3 are not genius for this. Rather team 1 just had an epic fail. Real life is not on a graded cuvred. Edit: Dave sent me a PM explaining that he is going to make a mega-post he would have done anyway if I had not posted. So watch out guys! ![]() My only real thought about this is team 3 needs "some love" to feel better. They would reach out if that where normal action here. Edit 2: I re-read the PM Dave sent me and it seems that Team 3 needed to change its plan of action. However, he was too shy to speak up. My post helped him do that for some reason.
Well it looks like team 2 will take at least 30 turns to win. I think team 1 will notice within 10 turns from now due to team 2 not popping a tech. 20 turns should be enough to take out a capatail. The only thing that can save team 2 is if team 1 trusts the bad UI on F8 that shows the top 3 cities per Civ even though culture is a team victory. I've seen stranger things happen...

They're likely trying to buy some more time by lessening our food lead. This is at odds with Sullla's assessment on his webpage: Sullla on his webpage Wrote:Team 3 has captured two cities from Team 2 over the last two turns. There's a ton of whipping/drafting going on from both sides, which is perfect for us. We are not whipping/drafting, nor are we losing cities, and therefore we're only getting further ahead. I genuinely think we'll get a concession sometime soon from the other teams. If not, that's fine too - we're having fun, and we can ride this thing out as long as need be. No one's conquering us, and we could always turtle to a space win if need be. I don't see a concession from Team 3 happening any time soon, not as long as they feel confident in their future economic prospects. And with such a large edge in settled territory, why not be confident? The longer this game goes I think it begins to favor Team 3 because they'll eventually be able to outproduce Team 1's smaller empire. I don't think Team 1 is in danger of losing this game just yet, but if they don't leverage their GNP lead soon they may regret it in the long run. That said, this isn't a 2 team duel. The eventual winner(s) of the land sweepstakes for the area currently held by teams 2 and 4 will go a way in determining the winner of this game. If Team 1 can quickly incorporate and exploit a chunk of rival holdings into their area and leverage that production to bring them closer to Team 3's output and Team 3 is unable to continue expanding into Luddite's/Nabaxo's territories, that could be the edge Team 1 needs to maintain their lead in this game. I still don't believe this game is decided, then again maybe I'm just hoping for an eventual showdown between the two teams that have played well in this game. Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon
I'd say things are just getting really interesting, with warring on multiple different fronts and the speed for lightning quick strikes. This game seems far off from being decided.
![]() ![]() It all hindges if team 1 trusts the bad UI on F8. They might do this because they love Civ4 and trust it.
What is the current big picture? Are Team 1 and Team 3 fighting while Team 2 are pushing culture?
Wasn't Team 3 fighting Team 2? Did that campaign end?
I have to run.
Team 3 decided they shouldn't all three be pursuing different military campaigns and also got the idea that team 1, being in the lead, are the ones responsible for making team 2 fail. That was a few turns ago. They decided to take the fight to team 1 with a possible naval assault vs sunrise, but ended up on the defensive when sunrise/speaker attacked warriorknight.
Team 1 still has a tech lead (and just got access to rifles and cavs) but so far it hasn't been big enough that team 3 can't defend against it (albeit with the losses of some island cities by oledavy). |
