PBEM 7 - Team Contest (4 x 2) - discussion

As Singaboy mentioned, we had serious bug pop up on Rome's turn with a mechanic not working properly, and this undercut a strategy that we had been planning for some time now. That's one of the reasons why we were suggesting a three-way draw at this point, in addition to general player fatigue after the last six months. However, with two voices requesting that the game continue, we will shift Rome's turns to Singaboy for the time being and look for a more permanent replacement for anyone interested. I am in the process of buying and moving into a new house and I can't afford to be spending 1-2 hours per day on this game right now. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Just as an FYI to the other players. There are some proposals under consideration for resolving/offsetting the change policy bug Sullla and Singaboy encountered with hopefully minimal disruption.

Well, mulling this over, it seems motivation is rather low. I think that a war between 3 powers with nearly industrial (soon modern) weaponry would be interesting for the community itself.

We could however agree to a 3way draw and take out the competitive edge and just see what comes out.

If not, eh, I am fine with starting a new PBEM.

Well, I am currently waiting for instructions to take over Rome's turns and we're good to go. The game has been marred by issues before and this latest bug is just another in the series of it.
Modern warfare will be interesting and Germany/Russia have waited for any action for 150 turns!

I have seen this bug before. Let me guess (no need to respond as it might provide spoilers). Rome switch out of a civic because you were going to get the boost from China and started a new civic. Boost was passed on China's turn and Rome completed the civic but did not get the policy swap option. I ran across it during testing a few different mechanics and seems to arise if a new civic (without any previous culture put into it) is started the turn before and the the boost is passed in between turns. My working theory (when I did see it) is that the boost is passed and civic is completed at the start of the global turn but culture is added to the current civic at the beginning of the players turn. No usually a problem as I have been able to policy swap if a boost is passed between turns to complete a civic but, in my experience at least, the denial of a policy swap is when a civic without any previous culture in it is worked on. I think the game gets confused and thinks a new civic was started and locks the policy screen. I may be off and this might not fit your issues but just wanted to share my experience.

I think, you might be spot on.

It seems there is no way to compensate the team for the effects of this without major disruptions. I'd suggest to simply move on. Will have to make do with some gold less.

I am still waiting for the save to be passed to me. Wasn't there a way to tell the PYDT admin to transfer a certain player to another account? Is it possible to give me access to both Rome and China under the same account?

I think your best bet would be to get Brick's key for the PYDT client and play his turn through the client. You can get rid of the current key if you select "clear storage" under the debug menu. I keep a text file with both mine and CMF's key in it to quickly copy and paste it in when I have to play both turns. Has worked so far.

Yup, I got Brick's key now and will try that. A little irritating to constantly change keys but that's what has to be done now.

If what you described works, I am good to go after work tonight.

Just an FYI, I couldn't play before I left for work this morning and now my teamviewer is not working, so I won't be able to play until after work, or in about 8 or so hours.

Had to come home early for something, so was able to play earlier than expected. Turn passed.
