Actually, no I hadn't. Just checked out one of the videos though, pretty hilarious stuff. Will have to watch more of that.
Are you logging in multiple times per turn? Did you say something to that effect one way or another in the diplo thread? Again an honest question, I simply don't remember either way.
I don't usually log in just once, but there are a variety of reasons for that. Most of the extra logins are two minute affairs to grab screenshots I've forgotten, update information for sims, check demographics for changes, or to provide insurance after a long play session in case of a server crash. (There are multiple times over the years where I've been burned after spending ages thinking about and playing a turn - only to have the server crash and reload to the start of my login, undoing all that work. Logging in again insures against that.)
Yes, I've occasionally double moved Azza... but it's a game with double moves, he can't expect them to never happen. (Or at least to only happen in his favour.) I do always try to leave at least 8 hours out of the ~12 hour turns for him to respond to my moves - far more than the rules require. And I don't do anything like what Mackseven do to Commoxenu... logging in before and after them literally every turn, usually within minutes of the turn flip. I'd never get away with such a thing, despite it being perfectly legal - folks here would crucify me for it. Yet because Commoxenu are (to their credit) not overly vocal in complaining about it, people don't mind. Ironically, if I just left my computer logged into the game for a few hours at a time, that'd cut down on the number of logins people are complaining about. But I don't like doing that, as it slows down both my computer and the server. I'm not even going to bother posting in the diplo thread for a while, I think, as pretty much anything I say is immediately interpreted against me by a few folks. Seems better to just ignore the abuse and move on. Lord Parkin Wrote:And I don't do anything like what Mackseven do to Commoxenu The appropriate term is "X-Com" Lord Parkin Wrote:The main issue that people have had is apparently with me playing too competitively. So how about I agree to behave how others wish for a while, and everyone else just plays as normal? (For example, ending turn during the first login or shortly after, and not playing the new turn if it's been less than a certain number of hours since I ended the last one.) Does that sound reasonable? You made me curious, so I looked it up. Injera Wrote:The appropriate term is "X-Com"Thanks, that rolls off the tongue much better. fluffyflyingpig Wrote:You made me curious, so I looked it up.Yep, and that's exactly what I've been doing. Regardless of other logins, I always end the turn on the first or second one. And I try to leave at least 8 hours between my last login of one turn and first login of the next.
It seems to me that this word "casual" is causing a lot of problems. Can it really mean 'I don't give a damn about winning'? What does it mean, what should it mean? Definitely such an innocuous word means different things to different people.
As far as I can see, the only way you can play is to abandon double moving altogether but as you point out, even then you will be blamed for taking advantage of the mistakes of others - or so it would seem. Perhaps you should just go last on every turn... But I am guessing there would be some unfair advantage for you in that. It is so interetsing; this whole thing.
In my view, there are two ideal solutions:
(1) We continue to play with the current double move rules, but the whinging and complaining stops. People should realise it's a game where double moves are allowed and plan accordingly - or at least don't spray out curses and threats when they leave defenceless units open within 4 tiles of 2 move units and things get killed. (2) We switch to having turn halves in major conflicts. Most (all?) folks right now seem to be in 1 vs 1 battles, so it'd be very easy to organize. However, in the past some folks (including Mackseven) have expressed distaste for this solution. I'd be very happy with either of these eventualities. The first seems unrealistic given the current atmosphere around here, but the second seems plausible - though it would no doubt result in some grumbling from a few players. Unfortunately, right now it seems more probable that neither of these will happen, and instead I'll be expected to restrict myself further and further or else be constantly insulted and bullied. The totally unacceptable situation to me is where only I am expected not to double move, while no such restrictions are placed on others. That just tilts the game unfairly in favour of folks like Mackseven, who manage to get away with their own double moving just because their opponent is, admirably, relatively placid and clear-headed about it. Not to mention that sooner or later, it's likely that Mackseven and I will be engaged in combat. I would hate to continue to be called out on every double move while no-one else is bound to such rules. |
