Time spent with the animals, Lucas tidies himself up and goes to see the mayor

Dear Sir, thank you for the hospitality you have extended us in recuperating in your home, it is truly appreciated. However while the immediate threat may have been handled for now, we are worried that we have not eliminated it entirely. We have a locked chest with a puzzle lock we believe may hold the secrets to destroying this organisation entirely, but the lock has us baffled. We were wondering, do you know of anybody here who has a skill in solving such puzzles?

we ask for help with the chest, which gives a hook to introduce Mardoc. Additionally you could question Kile / the guard for further leads

Lucas then takes out a letter from his pocket

Additionally I have a letter I would like to be delivered to a friend of mine in Dunwick if that is possible. If i was to leave it with you, could you pass it on to somebody heading that way please?

I assume the mail system is just passing it from hand to hand

For those interested letter reads:

My Dear James,
Our quest to thwart your cousin has begun in earnest. It seems the rumour regarding the disruption to the shipping of Baron Chalmers was correct, and so with 3 others that also had their own reasons for investigating the issue, we managed to find some sort of hidden cult to a water demon ran bad a mad Dwarven engineer.
He had constructed some sort of underwater ship to destroy the shipping he felt was imposing on his master’s space, and was then keeping the loot hidden in a cave.
The dwarf and some other allies of his are dead, but a strange tentacle beast they had captured is wounded but still alive, alas the cave flooded once the dwarf died, and we were unable to explore further.
Plus, it seems my fighting skills are not what I had hoped, as I emerged very battered and bloody from the fight, but do not worry on that score, we are being well received here in the Mayors house, and I will soon recover from these blows.
I have a chest from one of the ships that I am struggling to open the lock of, but hopefully somebody in this town will be able to solve it, as I need something to bring to the Baron to gain his notice.
I hope my good fortune continues and my time away ultimately proves to be of value. I will write again soon, when we discover where this trail leads

Anya checks the guard; he seems to be holding on for now. Heal check for long-term care.

The mayor gladly takes Lucas' note and promises to send it onward. He scratches his head about the lock. I might know a person who could help. Let me check on that for you. In my prime I used to be quite good with numbers but the pattern is eluding me here.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Of course, they're all primes. So it must be 2-17-3-13-5-11-7

Goddammit, that was literally the one combination I was about to check, but I figured it wouldn't be something like that. I'm not lying to try and gain credit, I honestly thought of it when I first saw it, but didn't get the primes connection, just saw a potential pattern, so I thought it wasn't correct because it felt too random.

Forgot the heal check. 16+9=25.
So do we consider that we got a sudden insight on the chest lock ? And just unlock it with no ingame help ? Then comes the problem of fighting Dp for the loot

Edit : or maybe Dp can "remember" something his employer told him about the lost ship's content ?

Also I want to complain on behalf of 19, who is a fine prime number under 20 and who feels left out. He may not be as awesome as 17 but he deserves recognition.

IIRC this chest isn't owned by my company, so my character doesn't care.

Then I withdraw my edit

Sorry for the delay, took a while for me to realize you were waiting on me to open the chest.

The mayor walks out of the tavern, and comes back in a few minutes with a companion.  She's dressed in an odd combination of practical armor and glittering jewelry.  The glitter of jewels comes from every possible source: earrings, necklace, a multitude of rings, bracelets; she's really quite overdone, far beyond the boundaries of good taste.  On closer inspection, you'll realize that the jewels are mostly glass or paste, set in well polished lesser metals.  A couple of the lesser pieces are real, you think.  Her armor contains designs of dragons...not high quality, but done with passion.

The mayor opens his mouth, but before he can speak, she walks over to you and introduces herself.

Gentlemen!  It's great to meet heroes like you!  John told me that you have a little problem with a lockbox.  I'm not exactly an expert, but I've been friends with experts and I picked up a thing or two.  Let me take a look!

She grins, engagingly.  Looks at the box

Ah, this looks like that pattern Nily told me about that one time...

Enter the code 2-17-3-13-5-11-7.  Assuming the box opens, she looks inside at (presumably) treasure

Oooh, that's pretty.  Where did you find such a thing?  Are you going to be looking for more?  Can I come along?

Her hands twitch toward the box, before she determinedly clasps them together behind her back.
Self!  Job interview is not the best time to be indulging.  You're here because you can't get all the shiny things you need on your own. Gotta earn their trust if you want their help.
