Sunrise just alerted me, and I've got some interest. Not sure if I really have time to do this but I'd at least like to talk about it.

When I played, we played on the email judges - IMO it's way better than the other online sites. Basically you send orders and press through the judge and it automatically adjudicates. I STRONGLY prefer an automatic adjudicator rather than a human doing it (though it is good to have a human GM to oversee things)

Another nice thing about a judge (though probably some of the web UIs do this too) is that it will send reminders before orders are due, lessening the chance that anyone will go "NMR" (no move received).

I think 72 hour for movement phase and 24h for retreats and builds (with press allowed in all phases) would make the most sense.

The other nice thing about a judge is that you can set it up to automatically forward press to observers. I played in a tournament game where everything got sent to a Yahoo group that observers could kibbitz on (similar to a spoiler thread) - it was a lot of fun. That game went till like 1950 - it was a crazy game.

Some sort of email judge is fine with me I guess? Never used anything like it. 72 hours for movement phase seems excessive though, especially if he allow diplo during the other two phases. 4 days/turn seems plenty long enough, adding a 5th day seems unnecessary. Is there a real reason for it?

Depends on the pace you're looking to get. I'm fine with faster. 24hr phases though go REALLY fast, especially when you consider timezones.

Most email / web interfaces also allow you to mark your orders as "ready", so once all players have done that, the turn can process early. Think of it as analogous to the MP veteran yelling "press enter noob!"

Do you have a link to the email judge you've used? Or is it the same one Amelia linked to? It sounds like it would save Sareln a lot of work - are there any drawbacks to it?

Hi, since I haven't played this game before I think I'd like to lurk the first game, so please give my slot to someone else if they are interested.

Well the last spot belongs to regoarrar if he's still interested. Also, Rowain and Regoarrar are under strict orders to at least have a thread in order to take ASM's spot . Regoarrar, are you in for sure or still thinking about it? If you confirm, we'll have our full roster and can get things rolling.

My one hesitation with doing it with an outside tool is it's less lurker friendly than doing it in a main thread here. I'd like the game to be very lurker friendly so that people can learn the game and then try it themselves next time. I think we can just leave it up to Sareln to decide how he wants to GM it.
