And in my opinion, there is very little reason to believe he would be lying in his sign up post to his team.
Multiplayer internet games could mean something like a text based game running off a server, to an MMORPG. It doesn't necessarily mean Multiplayer Civ (and frankly why would you call multiplayer Civ "internet based"?). But, beside that point, unless we can dig up relevant info on multiplayer games by him, we can't know how he'll do. And in that case better IMO to initially go on the basis that he's a good SP player but new to multiplayer.

About the influence-civic/religion spy mission, it really is just a matter of players not liking it, because they don't know how to defend against it, because they dont play with it, so they arent used to it, so they don't like it... etc etc, round and round the vicious circle goes.
For all the virtual ink spilled about how cheap and easy it is for a small civ to take down a big one with these missions, it is just as cheap and easy for an ally to nulify the mission by switching you back from whatever you got switched into. That simple precaution rewards the wary/prepared, and punishes the ones who want to just ignore the mission as if its not there. The really great value of the mission is an ability to really punish Civs that rely too heavily on one particular Civic or religion instead of diversifying their economy. Players who strategies rely too hevily on leveraging one Civic are terrified of this mission... They want to stick with their practiced, dogmatic way of playing.
For now (maybe reading the RB threads will change my mind) I plan to advocate full espy with no missions banned (but of course I will play regardless) My two cents.
Cheers

I want nukes too Ozzy, but RB is not going to agree to all the things we want, because as you point out, they like their Civ to be a Chess-style MP-fest. In the end we are going to have to nerf Espionage, or Nukes or Corps or give up the Spanish Mod. So I would like to prioritize the Spanish Mod and Espionage. Note how he is saying WE will have to give up the Spanish mod, subtly aligning with the Spanish team. He's slimy and shameless. He will likely spend all game character assassinating us. On the positive side, it seems highly likely that we can sway Apolyton sentiments with story telling.

I'm beginning to firmly believe that the best strategy for dealing with Sommerswerd will be to just not feed the troll. If we need to comment on something in public threads, we should just make a single, consise post that communicates our opinion and ignore any attempts to nitpick about small details.

Let him talk himself into the ground and bore the other teams with his walls of text. If we keep it short and sweet, we'll make far more of an impact than if we get bogged down in a long-winded discussion.

Definitely, that's exactly what I would do... but I dunno if that would be a form of trolling.

I do think we need to counter him, but not directly. Just make sure to behave in a manner that makes his accusations baseless and himself look like an argumentative fool. And yeah, avoid getting drawn into long debates with him. It looks like this will be a recurring theme throughout the game.
On a side note, I want to join the Chinese embassy something fierce ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) Going to see if I can get them to donate some of their awesome kitty smilies. And considering how much I love Starcraft, karaoke and peanuts, I make a pretty good faux Asian.

And wow, LP is working magic over on the Chinese site. Sommerswerd must be beside himself with anguish and frustration
