[SPOILERS] BRick goes for a diplo win with Genghis's Vikings

I can make the sandbox, since you are busy. I just haven't started yet because we haven't even seen our whole city BFC. If the game don't start until this night, I think i'll start the sandbox just to see how much of the terrain our scout moving will reveal. lol

I haven't played any games from the Fire Emblem series (I heard about them a bit, but just passing by), so I can't help you with coming up with the names, though.

Well, I think from fog reading we can tell most of it. 22 is Plains Forest, 21 looks like grass hill, 41 is flood plains, 44 is riverside grass. 88 and 89 are coast, but i have a feeling one of them is a food resource. Though to be fair, and of those squares could have resources we don't know about.

They're a very awesome series. Turn-based strategy with a good bit of RPG mixed in, good difficulty and a cliched but usually awesome story. I can handle all the names don't you worry. :D I'm probably going to be playing through one of them on the side here soon anyways cause they're just so much fun; I've been considering doing a write-up as I do so and throwing it up at The Gaming Table if anyone was interested, but I'm undecided if I will or not yet.

That's what I think too. By the way, I bet there's a strategic resource 2E of the settler.

I'd be interested in the write-up.

Hmm. Yeah, that nice bare spot in between the forests looks quite circumspect. either there or 77?

Oh crap. I just realized those forests you can see through tile bleed NW of us are snowy. We're on the north side of the map with tundra not too far away. bang Al least no danger of being swallowed by jungle?

Chat logs:

(1:45:08 PM) BRick: Noooo we are close to snow
(1:46:48 PM) Ichabod: Well, it's better than be closed to jungle
(1:47:06 PM) Ichabod: For instancem Krill won the game starting near the tundra in his game
(1:47:22 PM) BRick: yeah true
(1:47:39 PM) Ichabod: We are probably going to have room for a few cities until we reach the jungle belt in the middle of the map
(1:48:00 PM) Ichabod: That's very nice, because it gives us time to slowly research techs like IW and Calendar
(1:48:06 PM) BRick: yeah
(1:48:34 PM) Ichabod: In PB7 I started very close to Jungle and needed to rush to IW and Calendar - so I had to delay currency and other important techs
(1:48:51 PM) Ichabod: The biggest problem will be if we are between tundra and desert :P
(1:48:56 PM) BRick: oh
(1:48:59 PM) BRick: *oy
(1:49:00 PM) BRick: well
(1:49:29 PM) BRick: tile bleed shows desert 333 of steeler
(1:49:43 PM) BRick: and we kow there's at least one flood plain, that might have desert tile buddies
(1:49:51 PM) BRick: so *cross fingers*
(1:53:30 PM) Ichabod: it's to be expected, I think
(1:53:56 PM) Ichabod: the map scripts follow a certain pattern, albeit I'm not sure exactly how it is
(1:54:13 PM) Ichabod: Is something like tundra -> temperate -> desert -> jungle
(1:54:30 PM) Ichabod: Hopefully we get some nice flood plains in the desert area
(1:55:05 PM) BRick: yeah
(1:55:16 PM) BRick: since we don't have FIN, extra econ is good
(1:55:32 PM) BRick: also, i wonder how much islandy stuff is in our sphere of influence
(1:55:42 PM) BRick: we could theoretically be on australis
(1:56:33 PM) BRick: come to think of it, that land bridge skinny land looks remarkably similar to the one on my island continent in PB5
(1:56:53 PM) Ichabod: well, we have a happy resource already... this at least hints that we are in a bigger continent (if I remember correctly, your continent with scooter had none)
(1:57:45 PM) Ichabod: Either way, going naval early sounds like a very interesting way of playing
(1:58:00 PM) Ichabod: I'd support trying to attack someone with berserkers
(1:58:05 PM) BRick: not necessarially
(1:58:09 PM) Ichabod: It's normal speed after all
(1:58:30 PM) BRick: i think krill used that script of sevens that fixes the happy resource problem
(1:59:56 PM) Ichabod: Sure... So, yeah, we could be in trouble
(2:00:18 PM) BRick: eh, that just means we'll have catching up to do
(2:01:02 PM) BRick: course
(2:01:11 PM) BRick: it'd be nice if the game started so we could find out
(2:01:12 PM) BRick: :P
(2:01:53 PM) BRick: as for the berserks
(2:02:04 PM) BRick: i would really like it if we have an oppertunity to use them
(2:02:27 PM) BRick: i.e., be able to boat someone close who's preferably built a wonder to nab
(2:02:36 PM) BRick: but we'll just hafe to see
(2:02:47 PM) BRick: vikings might end up being null, based on our water situation
(2:03:20 PM) BRick: I do really like our traits though
(2:03:53 PM) BRick: fast settlers, cheap culture producing barracks, and 2-promo units from any cities with one
(2:04:01 PM) BRick: to defend all the cities we make
(2:04:15 PM) BRick: let's just hope we have good enough land to leverage them
(2:11:38 PM) Ichabod: Yeah, I'm pretty happy with our leader too
(2:11:58 PM) Ichabod: And since we are not some awesome power combo, we can be left unchecked for a long time
(2:13:15 PM) Ichabod: What I noticed in PB7 (and PB5) is that people really stretch for a long time with only copper defenses (spears and axes)
(2:14:17 PM) Ichabod: Quick Berserkers can cause a lot of Havoc. They have an innate + attack against cities and we are guaranteed combat 1 + some other promo
(2:14:44 PM) Ichabod: With the mobility that viking galleys give, we'll be very dangerous
(2:15:05 PM) Ichabod: Is just a matter of planning it
(2:15:07 PM) BRick: yeah
(2:19:41 PM) Ichabod: if we could pull out the combo that Krill did in PB5, by building the Heroic Epic and the Statue of Zeus on the same city, we would be set
(2:20:02 PM) Ichabod: The problem is that those are in the Aesthetic line, which I'm not sure is worth pursuing
(2:21:43 PM) Ichabod: Are huts on in the game?
(2:22:06 PM) BRick: I believe so
(2:35:21 PM) BRick: Commodore said huts are on
(2:36:31 PM) Ichabod: Interesting
(2:36:35 PM) Ichabod: Barbs are on too, right?
(2:36:38 PM) BRick: yeah
(2:36:50 PM) BRick: lets hope we pop astronomy from a hut wink
(2:38:19 PM) Ichabod: :P
(2:38:58 PM) Ichabod: What are the best techs we can pop with the mod? Probably BW, Pottery or Writing
(2:39:01 PM) Ichabod: Maybe even sailing
(2:39:05 PM) Ichabod: or masonry
(2:40:31 PM) BRick: anything in the first 2 tiers
(2:40:35 PM) BRick: BW would be lovely
(2:42:34 PM) Ichabod: It really would, because we seem to have a start that need a lot of techs to be effective
(2:42:43 PM) Ichabod: Fortunately, there's the pasture change
(2:43:01 PM) Ichabod: Agriculture has a high change of being needed
(2:43:07 PM) Ichabod: Mining -> BW is another must
(2:43:19 PM) BRick: yeah
(2:43:28 PM) Ichabod: Bah! I csn't wait to reveal those tiles!
(2:43:59 PM) Ichabod: Revealing the start before was a dirty move from the map makers :P
(2:48:19 PM) BRick: twas

Yay grass pigs.

See any reason to move? I think this would be fine, and there might be seafood in the one square of water we can't see. coastal access is good, right?

Also, all water in vision is saltwater.

(10/31/2012 8:59:27 AM) Ichabod: hey brick
(8:59:47 AM) Ichabod: My opinion is that settling in place is best
(9:00:38 AM) Ichabod: For some reason, I can't access the forum right now, but I can see the start picture from the subscribe email
(9:01:11 AM) Ichabod: I think we'd get mostly plains by moving one south and we'd lose a turn
(9:01:16 AM) Ichabod: not worth it
(9:03:54 AM) BRick: you can log in and do the settle if you wanna
(9:03:54 AM) Ichabod: do you want me to settle it and send a picture?
(9:03:58 AM) BRick: hah
(9:03:58 AM) Ichabod: :P
(9:04:00 AM) Ichabod: ok
(9:04:02 AM) Ichabod: I'll do it
(9:04:05 AM) BRick: yeah i just got to work
(9:04:16 AM) BRick: so it'd be a good 7 hours til i could log on
(9:04:27 AM) BRick: and yeah send a picture
(9:04:46 AM) BRick: i wanna see the fish to the north and the gold on that PH south of us
(9:04:47 AM) BRick: wink
(9:04:58 AM) Ichabod: :P
(9:10:56 AM) Ichabod: hm...
(9:11:03 AM) BRick: ?
(9:11:04 AM) Ichabod: Is the password norsehorde?
(9:11:07 AM) BRick: yeah
(9:11:11 AM) BRick: it should be
(9:11:15 AM) Ichabod: I'm not being able to connect using it
(9:11:16 AM) Ichabod: ...
(9:11:20 AM) BRick: i might have spelt it wrong
(9:11:25 AM) BRick: try norsehoard
(9:11:41 AM) Ichabod: lol
(9:11:45 AM) Ichabod: it worked
(9:11:47 AM) Ichabod: :P
(9:11:49 AM) BRick: haha
(9:11:57 AM) BRick: i'll change that in the thread then
(9:12:03 AM) Ichabod: I thought it would be a long shot
(9:12:35 AM) Ichabod: worker first?
(9:12:41 AM) Ichabod: I think it's best
(9:12:41 AM) BRick: sounds good to me
(9:12:50 AM) Ichabod: no other resources, though
(9:12:52 AM) BRick: since we already have tech for both those foodies
(9:12:54 AM) BRick: aw
(9:12:55 AM) BRick: frown
(9:13:00 AM) BRick: well
(9:13:04 AM) BRick: at least a FP
(9:13:14 AM) Ichabod: but it's good enough
(9:13:18 AM) BRick: yeah
(9:13:25 AM) BRick: grass riverside pigs arent bad
(9:13:59 AM) BRick: yeah just post up a pic when you get a chance
(9:14:03 AM) Ichabod: ok
(9:14:13 AM) Ichabod: mining -> BW seems the best tech path to me
(9:14:23 AM) Ichabod: Because hunting gives us pastures already
(9:14:32 AM) BRick: yeah, we're good on food tecvhs
(9:14:36 AM) BRick: bring on the copper
(9:15:03 AM) BRick: how many people are yet to play/end turn?
(9:15:49 AM) Ichabod: let me see
(9:16:18 AM) Ichabod: two already played but didn't end turn (already settled)
(9:16:28 AM) Ichabod: and two haven't settled yet, nor finished the turn
(9:16:54 AM) Ichabod: How should I rename the city?
(9:17:12 AM) BRick: Lycia
(9:17:23 AM) BRick: i'll post a list of more names later
(9:17:32 AM) BRick: and ok
(9:17:42 AM) BRick: just wanting to get an idea of how fast the turn might roll
(9:17:54 AM) BRick: i'm anxious to op that hut and get astronomy
(9:18:28 AM) Ichabod: Huts male the early game way more thrilling :D
(9:18:46 AM) Ichabod: Serdoa and Azza moved their settlers and didn't settle on first turn
(9:18:57 AM) Ichabod: Just posting it here if you happen to post this chat log
(9:19:30 AM) Ichabod: So, just so we are in the same page and I can end the turn:
(9:19:40 AM) Ichabod: Worker as production
(9:19:44 AM) Ichabod: Mining for Tech
(9:19:47 AM) Ichabod: Lycia for name
(9:19:51 AM) Ichabod: correct?
(9:19:57 AM) BRick: yeah i probably will
(9:19:59 AM) BRick: correct
(9:20:23 AM) BRick: also, commodore smells bad and scooter will die by berzerkers
(9:20:33 AM) BRick: since i have to post the chat logs and al
(9:20:39 AM) BRick: see if anyone reads them
(9:20:48 AM) Ichabod: :P
(9:20:54 AM) Ichabod: ok, I'm going now
(9:21:07 AM) Ichabod: talk to you later, hopefully with astronomy already popped
(9:21:13 AM) BRick: yay astronomy!
