[SPOILERS] This Is Asgard! A Tale of Post-Ragnarok Midgard

Eh, working on it wink

If you really want to see blood though, Ichabod's probably your man. It's hard to say without my surroundings completely mapped out yet, but it appears my sphere of influence is very clearly defined by encircling mountains with few ways in or out. It will be very hard to attack me, and I won't have much incentive to attack out and extend my defensive line, at least not during the early game. The surrounding jungles make it even harder to attack me, as any army will take ages to reach Asgard. We'll just have to see though, I only can see a small portion of the map atm and things may in actuality be very different than they appear to me now.

Turn 10

So, things got more interesting this turn.

Met Jowy's warrior coming southwest, with the borders of a city-state visible to the northwest. I think it's Wittenburg, which would explain the early pantheon belief he took. I'm currently blocking him from coming further south. I think I'm going to move northwest to meet Wittenburg next turn, then immediately move back southeast. At that point, I will head south. I would like to check out the land west of Rio for ruins before letting his warrior traipse around my land. If that does turn out to be a continuous mountain range to the north, it will be nearly impossible for either of us to get at each other.

Culture expanded to grab an ivory this turn.

God I would kill for a culture ruins, or any ruins that didn't completely suck.

End Turn.

I thought Archery counted as at least decent.

It really is a decent pull...I'm just being grumpy. I was really hoping for a faith or culture ruins to help me redeem this start, and so far, they haven't been particularly helpful. 22 beakers is nice, but archery doesn't do a whole lot to accelerate my early game plan.

Turn 11

Met Wittenburg.

Pledged to protect them. Jowy moved his warrior east into a pocket in the mountains. I hope he does not find ancient ruins in there, beating me to them by a turn.

Was going to start moving back south this turn, but since he moved his warrior east instead of staying put and waiting for me to pass, decided to push a little farther north. Will probably offer him a DoF. We have no reason to work against each other, and he could be a useful trading partner.

Spotted Capetown's borders to the east (only CS that color).

Hopefully it's friendly. That will make three maritime city-states in my area. Going to try to ally with all them at some point. With any luck, I can leverage tons of food into enhanced specialists for the win.

My scout will meet Capetown next turn, then head east.

My warrior found a decent city-site on top of those gems.

Probably too far away to settle for a second city though.

Turn 12

Met Capetown (Maritime, Friendly, Silks). Also found the Barringer Crater to the west of the city. I pledged to protect it for the free Influence. I have so far pledged to protect all four city-states in my area.

I went ahead and positioned my scout to move north through Wittenburg territory next turn. Jowy's warrior is coming south. I'm not worried about him exploring west of Rio and possibly finding a ruins back there somewhere, and my warrior should get to my capital before he does to check out the peninsula to the south for ruins.

I went ahead and proposed Jowy a DoF.

Animal husbandry revealed a lone source of 2 horses in my sphere of interest. It's just as well, I'll only be building one or two horsemen for barb camp clearing duties.

So, here are the two city-sites I will be settling first.

In the first screenshot, I'll be settling on the sugar or stone - I haven't decided which yet. In the latter, I will settle northeast of the marble.

Granary finished EoT. Worker next.

End Turn.

Don't worry crater! I got your back!

I'd think any land that is, well, a crater is a little past protection.

Well...I am now protecting the crater against any further attacks, whether they be from terrestrial or extraterrestrial threats smile

Anyway, boring turn.

Turn 13

Granary finally finished, started on a worker.

Turned my warrior around who will get back the turn the worker completes. With any luck, Ragusa will have completed its worker by the time my warrior passes through and I can snag it to super-charge improving tiles around my cap, something my jungle start sorely needs.

My scouts continued on their merry way, and Jowy's warrior disappeared south.

Oh, and someone founded a Pantheon.

A pretty decent one. I feel this was probably founded by Serdoa since it lends itself to a wide empire, something Serdoa is likely to pursue with his UB. Also, Serdoa is most likely to have founded the next pantheon after Jowy netted his Religious city-state one. While it may have been someone finding another religious city-state or finding a ruins, the former is pretty unlikely. There are only four religious city-states (out of I believe 52 city-states total [1/16]). So getting Wittenburg with already 9 city-states is already an anomaly. (The other four if anyone is curious are Jerusalem, The Vatican City, and La Venta).

End Turn.
