[PB22 Spoiler] Joey and Borsche puke on the funny pages

Met ReallyEvilMuffin/AdrianIer to the SW:

They're apparently gamespy ladder players, so we should be careful of them being aggressive. That said, they're probably one of the top 3 players in this game I'd like to be next to; the rest of the players in this game are very strong veterans. REM posted some really goofy strategic stuff in his PBEM61 thread but seems to have a pretty good handle on tactics and micro. Their pick is also very good, Mehmed of Korea is a very fast starter, has great midgame (they get production boosts on just about every single building in the game), and a solid late-game.

So, finding them here could be a lot worse. We should plan to take control of this chokepoint sometime early, as we appear to be a vast distance away from any rival to the north.

We're having just horrible hut luck.

We've explored 22 spaces north without finding anyone else; makes me feel like someone's gonna be closer by boat via the S, SE, or E.

found REMAI's land; their capital is exactly 19 spaces to the west of us. the tile below the "bear t9" tile is the exact midpoint between us. unbelievably, still have not found anyone to the north.

What in the hell kind of map is this

Apparently a fucking huge one. In the north we finally found a new civ, Gavagai. His capital is 29 (!) tiles from ours, which is good because this guy is a really shitty neighbor to start close to. He's not only a very good player, but also completely ruthless. Luckily, he is so ridiculously far away that I don't think we'll have too much trouble with him for a long time. His pick, HC/England, has the natural synergy of half-priced Stock Exchanges, and seems inclined to go for the Colossus to take advantage of uber Fin coast.

And here's REMAI's borders:

The question: do we wardec these guys to get capital vision next turn?
Reply

By the way, our capital update. Still going according to the spreadsheet. We have 16 hammers into the workboat, 4 food; we'll grow in 3 turns now that the pig is pastured, just in time for the sheep's pasture to finish too.

Nice, I like that Rice island for future expansion too. Looks like we have a ton of room to expand to our north, even though it's going to be in a really weird shape.

WHEW, ok, what a set of turns. So, we were last to play tonight, and I was chatting with Borsche on steam. We decided to wardec to move our scouts into both Gavagai and REMAI's borders. Since we were last in the turn, and the worker was still working... ah, we can move again, I'll just move again. 5 seconds later... I realized I just double moved two war opponents at once. shakehead

SO, I seperately PM'd both parties, and here's what we decided to do. For Gavagai, he said he didn't care - he didn't have a warrior and I had only moved on forests. Unfortunately, REMAI had a warrior that popped on T18, and so, TBS recommended that I just delete my scout - trade 1 turn's extra vision and the chance my scout survives for the XP the warrior would get. Both REM and AI said they were fine with that, so that's what I just did.

Pictures. REMAI first; here's what I saw right before scout death. 2 silvers, plus they went BW immediately. A very good setup for them if they have some food to their west.

Gavagai: 3f start (!), tons of food, tons of forests. Looks a bit stronger than our start, tbh...

Finally, we took a bullet (bear) for REMAI; moved ajacent to one their scout was also ajacent to on T17, it attacked us instead of them, and now we have a 3XP scout.

Offered cease fires to both of them.

blugh, REMAI, wardeced us and camped on our pig. since they don't move onto the forest and they didn't offer a cease fire, I can only assume that they plan to sit there until we get a warrior out. this really fucks up our micro very badly... i was kind of hoping that, with this ridiculously huge map, this would finally be my game here where the very early game wasn't a huge pain in the ass. c'est la vie.

talked to borsche about it on steam:

German Jojo: ugh our pb22 game is ruined
Borsche: what happened
German Jojo: remai's scout is camping on our pig
Borsche: lmfao great
German Jojo: we either delay our settler greatly to get rid of them or else let them kill that tile in perpetuity
German Jojo: i sent them a PM asking if they double-moved but i dont think they did
German Jojo: they're just doing it on purpose
Borsche: they have chosen unwisely
Borsche: haha but im looking at the pic now and this is gay
German Jojo: i know seriously
German Jojo: i never seen anyone do this at RB, its well understood that if you do this ppl will tilt and wreck you
Borsche: i think its best to not delay our settler. classic response to choke is knee jerk but its better to expand
German Jojo: throw their game away to kill yours
Borsche: how far away are remai, is it even possible to like
German Jojo: 19 tiles
Borsche: throw away our game lol
Borsche: nope
German Jojo: its ridiculously far
German Jojo: so its not even easy
German Jojo: which is why this is so absurd
Borsche: any stack we'd send would be obsolete
German Jojo: not necessarily
German Jojo: we could gamble
German Jojo: idk
German Jojo: like i dont even want to play this anymore, tired of all my games at this site being like this
German Jojo: this map is so fucking big
German Jojo: to get slowed down like this is just
German Jojo: its such a stupid setback
German Jojo: like i'll be wasting my time every time i log in from this point forward
German Jojo: there's no point in playing
Borsche: i mean
Borsche: the map is so fucking big that we can expand and grow
German Jojo: thats true but
Borsche: it fucks up micro but
German Jojo: so will everyone else
German Jojo: we'll be behind
Borsche: i think a smaller map would make the problems worth
German Jojo: i mean if they move out this turn
German Jojo: the smaller map would make the problems more immediate
Borsche: a larger map gives us more opportunity to come back
German Jojo: im talking about in like, 150 turns, how far will we be behind if they camp that scout there for 15 turns?
German Jojo: because if we dont get a warrior now, that's how long it will be
Borsche: well
Borsche: how much do we delay our settler
Borsche: by putting a worker out
German Jojo: you mean warrior?
Borsche: yeah
German Jojo: sec, lemme look at my spreadsheet
German Jojo: hmmm
German Jojo: so, if they move off the pig, we'll lose 12 food over the next 3 turns, putting us 9 short of growing to size 4
German Jojo: so, that would mean 2 extra turns there, if we want to do that
German Jojo: so
German Jojo: and that's assuming we work a 2/1 tile
German Jojo: so
German Jojo: that would put us at size 4 w/ a warrior in 5 turns
German Jojo: effectively delaying our settler 2 turns total, 15-18 fh lost total
German Jojo: christ
Borsche: so our settler gets delayed 2 turns, you think that's a net gain over letting the pigs get camped for 15 turns?
German Jojo: let me work out a plan to see what happens
German Jojo: if we just go settler at size 3
German Jojo: ignoring the pig
German Jojo: shit actually
German Jojo: our second city was planning to work the pig
German Jojo: i think we have to let our settler get delayed 2 turns
German Jojo: gonna go get some lunch, ill let you know about the settler-at-3 sim when i get back
