Two archers died at 97% odds. Expected that but a little surprised how high the odds where.

Archer v Scout on forest hill ... 90% chance of victory. DIES.

And 6+ horse archers turn up.

For someone who doesn't really get Civ IV (I'm mostly a VI player), what was your intention in moving the units out of the city?

SuperDeath has a scout sitting on a three hammer tile. I moved three archers out, expecting to lose two to the axes that could hit that tile and having 1 left to kill the scout. Then squat on that tile with the victorious archer and being able to work that tile.

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification - I still don't fully grasp strategy in this game and I also can't always make sense of the interface.
