Gillette Diplomacy Thread: Dossiers, Scheming, and Puppet Strings

What kind of counter-offer would you accept? Plako said "next turn" means not this upcoming turn, but the next turn, so depending on the TEAM situation we have some time--depending on when we play, I might say something like "I'm sorry, we need more time to consider this since Old Harry's been away for the week"--aren't you playing your PBEM turns though, since the laptop can handle those? In addition, you've sent stuff already this week :/

What if you or I send a message saying "We got your email, but Old Harry is handling diplo and he's away until xx"

Just had a quick in-game chat with HAK:

Quote:HitAnyKey: heya
Old Harry: Hey
Old Harry: How are things going?
HitAnyKey: going ok.
HitAnyKey: You get my ingame chat message about the status of those plako cities I saw with my scout last turn?
Old Harry: I'm just having a look at how things have gone in my absense...
HitAnyKey: did he pass on those messages to you?
Old Harry: Yeah, CH reported, very useful to know. Would be really helpful to know about their pyramids city too!
HitAnyKey: I'll just go see if he can see that one this turn.

-----------------

Old Harry: Any luck
HitAnyKey: can't get to it this turn. Next turn will be able to see what's in it
Old Harry: Thanks, it'll be
Old Harry: handy to know
Old Harry: We know they're researching Machinery at the moment
HitAnyKey: so you want to do the OB next turn?
HitAnyKey: I just moved the first 4 catapults onto the hill just north of the city you want them to. And there's one catapult right behind those, with another 2 a turn or so behind them
Old Harry: That sounds good - I'll offer on our next turn
Old Harry: Brilliant
HitAnyKey: sounds good.
HitAnyKey: off to go finish the turn and then you can play yours while you're logged in. smile
Old Harry: Do you know how gifting works?
HitAnyKey: yeah, just move it into your borders and click the gift button
Old Harry: Do you need movement points to be able to?
HitAnyKey: hmm, don't believe so.
Old Harry: Okay, cool. I might go check...
HitAnyKey: ok. l8rs. the next couple turns will be fun. smile
Old Harry: I'll try an build a road for you to move them to...
Old Harry: Cheers
HitAnyKey: when do you think you would declare on trolls?
Old Harry: t141 is our plan right now. Depends if we can get more units a turn or two later...
HitAnyKey: Off I go

As far as I know, gifted units are transferred with the same movement that they had before they were gifted. In other words, the unit can be gifted without movement points, but then we won't get to move it until the following turn.

I forgot to offer peace during our turn bang - so I've just logged in to offer it now. It didn't give me an option for open borders too, so I'll need to log in during M3's turn to offer that...

Meanwhile Trolls just got Machinery and are saving money on Printing Press at the moment. They don't have Construction, Iron Working or HBR yet.

Just sent this to M3 - it was a bit urgent...

Quote:Hey guys,

Things are going well, I've just offered peace, but it didn't give me an option to offer open borders to allow the catapult gift. So when you get to your turn I'll need to log in after you accept the peace deal to offer or accept open borders. I'll keep an eye on civstats, but if you can email to let me know when you're going to play the turn (once TEAM are done) I'll be more likely to catch you.

We're hoping to research Engineering or Optics before the war commences, so we can hurry reinforcements to the battlefield, but don't quite have the money to do it - is there any chance of a short-term loan? We think 290 gold should get us there eot139, but anything you have spare would help. We'll pay you back in the aftermath of the war (assuming Trolls don't wipe us out). We could pay a little interest, but I think we're taking the majority of the risk here, so if you can waive that it'd be appreciated...

Cheers

Also just sent this to Tas and the TEAM email account:

Quote:Hey Tas,

Just to let you know our planned attack date is still t141, you'll notice that we're at peace with M3 on the next turn.

Our only problem is that we can't get to Engineering quick enough to increase the power of our first wave of attack (which is where the most damage will be dealt) - if you could loan us 290 gold for the duration of the war it'll allow our initial blow to be a bit stronger (vital for this stage of the game where defending is still very easy).

Do you have an eta for your attack on Trolls yet or would you rather fund us to make ours more likely to succeed? I don't see us making a lot of ground up in score, so I think it's win/win for you...

Cheers

Got this back from M3:
Quote:I've logged in, accepted the Peace Treaty, and offered open borders to you. So all you need to do is log in and accept it. Then when we log in for our turn, we can send over the first batch of catapults.
Gold will be a problem, since we don't have any either.

And replied thus:
Quote:Great, I've just accepted open borders, I think the sheep is the best place for the four cats - the other one could go on top of the worker 1n of the sheep and any others can just go for the road towards Blades of Glory.

I've asked TEAM if they have any cash too, hopefully they'll get back with something (although I don't hold out a lot of hope).

This just in from TEAM:
Quote:I will have to check in-game but it looks like I may get to Guilds sooner than I initially predicted. If that is the case, I would certainly hope to get such a tech before loaning you the gold that I may more quickly join in the fight smile

Also while I was logged into the Gillette email account earlier Plako sent me a "hi" on chat, so I quickly logged out. I think we had decided to have radio silence, but if anyone has an idea for a message that will string them along for another turn that would be great...

How about sending something like this to TEAM:
Quote:Okay, we understand, when do you think you'll be ready to attack?
