Overall the game is nicely streamlined, presented but I am wary if the depth is still in there. So who is going to post a report on his game for the undecided?
Heh. Looks like there is a serious balance issue with ancient ruins. Your units can get an upgrade ("found ancient weapons" or something like that), scout -> archer or warrior -> spearman sort of thing.
But the same unit can get this result multiple times. One guy had a screenshot of a rifleman running around in the ancient era. Another reported an AI with WW2 infantry in the same time frame. Oops. ![]() haphazard1 Wrote:But the same unit can get this result multiple times. One guy had a screenshot of a rifleman running around in the ancient era. Can't wait for the game to come out over here. I'm looking forward to the hex map and 1-unit-per-tile change. Sounds like it could make wars a lot more manageable and more interesting. A move towards 'Advance Wars' style combat is not such a bad thing for me. I was never one for detailed micro-management anyway.
The other changes don't really phase me, I can do without religion, tech/map trading, etc. Will have to see how it plays. The most important thing for me is the quality of the AI. I hope they did a good job. Now that I've finished my MSc (in AI), I actually have time to play Civ so the timing of the release is pretty good. ![]()
I played the demo now. One game half through. ~90 turns. And I think I like it. Of course it has a different feel than Civ 4, but that's ok.
A few things I noticed: o trade routes only seem to work with roads (maintenance!) but not with rivers, which is stupid/different. o city states are actual quite fun, but I can see how they can be unbalancing in a competitve Epic or MP. o Barbs kidnapped my unguarded settler, but I manged to free him after a few turns of seeking out the barb encampment. That's quite cool. o Compared to other costs in the game, buying tile expansions, is actually quite cheap. I will definitely buy the full version. mh

First game. Playing on King with England because I want to check out hte LB. Turns out it is a pretty solid unit at worst...
My problem with the game is I've captured 2 AI capitals in 160 turns, and only 1 remaining on htis continent to go. Yes, I'm a little unhappy, but so long as I don't go below 10 unhappy and I'm at size, I've not really got a problem... And the AI sucks at protecting workers/settlers. I've stolen at least a dozen already, without trying to. Also, GG are cool to play around with, but hardly fair to use against the AI. It could be a really fun PBEM knockabout ![]() |
