A bit of banter after I sent the save: Quote:Ellimist: sent
Lewwyn: cool
Lewwyn: BTW today is my birthday
Ellimist: Oh, happy birthday
Ellimist: I think I know the perfect gift...
Ellimist: How about 2 border cities?
Lewwyn: XDDDDDDD
Ellimist: (Tell me I'm wrong, I dare ya)
Lewwyn: well
Lewwyn: Yeah I accept your gift
Ellimist: lol
Lewwyn: Oh and its Noble's birthday tomorrow
Ellimist: So one city for each of you
Ellimist: You know it's impolite to take more than what is offered?
Lewwyn: hmmm
Lewwyn: We may be rude then...
I'm sure they'll be posting detailed screenshots and reports of the conflict, but feel free to request anything you'd like to see on my end. I've noticed that the defenders in RB wars tend to slack off with their spoiler threads, and I'll try not to do that.

I'll try to post some more screenshots tomorrow.
I hope I'm being overly negative here.
This game is pretty much over. I don't see any way that anybody but the Elementals can win this. I gave up on trying to defend Vega, Polaris, and Arcturus. I don't think we could have kept any of them. I tried to defend Rasalas but longbows are apparently worthless for killing knights, even when defending a city across a river. Antares is mostly defended by longbow, so it probably won't hold for long either.
So far, only the pikemen have killed anything on defense(we've killed 4 knights with them and lost 5 pikemen doing it.) I checked the combat log, and we did get unlucky on the longbow combats. I have killed a total of 7 knights, 3 of them on offense with ancient units against wounded knights.
Rasalas's revenge: The rest of the stack that killed Rasalas: I expect to be able to hold Regulus, at least for awhile. If he throws everything at it, it will probably be very close.
As far as I can tell, he's concentrating his forces in the Rasalas area, so Denebola will remain lightly defended for now. Bellatrix/Castor will probably come under threat soon, and they will only hold if he diverts very few knights to them. He started with at least 27, so he has at least 20 left(probably more like 25-30). If he bypasses Regulus/Denebola, he can hurt the rest of the donut core pretty bad, but hopefully give me a chance to start wearing his stack down.

We probably need more catapults.

I agree, but we need more pikemen more. So far I haven't had a chance to hit any stacks before they strike, even if I'd had more catapults. Meanwhile, pikemen seem to be the only unit capable of killing anything on defense. The longbowmen have had decent odds a few times but never succeeded.

T140 played.
Lewwyn's pulled back his forces somewhat, mostly to Arcturus. As far as I can tell, Alphecca and Denebola are not likely to be under threat soon, so I'm focusing the defenses mostly on Regulus and Antares.
Regulus is the strongest point in the defense, but Lewwyn knows that, so he's likely to try to bypass it. Denebola is also on a hill, so it can be potentially as strong. If I were Lewwyn, I'd see Bellatrix as the weak link. Unfortunately, if he takes Bellatrix, he'll also have a shot at Castor, and that would basically gut me.
If he gives me a few more turns, I'll keep getting pikes and catapults in critical cities. I discovered Theology this turn, so after this turn, all units will be getting +2 exp which should hopefully make a difference. I would have adopted vassalage earlier, but that would have prevented Sirius from building 1 turn pikemen, not to mention the gold/beaker output.
One major concern is that their tech pace is continuing at a ridiculous pace. They have at least 3 caravels now and are teching astronomy.
Sirius and Canopus are pumping pikemen like crazy. Both cities have a barracks: I've split some units off so that they can cover more than one city. The only city Lewwyn can attack next turn is Antares. Now that they've stopped pushing forward(for now), I have a little more leeway in arranging the defenses: I expect them to resume their assault soon, but probably not at Regulus directly. They'll probably try to split my forces or go around my main defenses.
They can attack Bellatrix directly from a maximum of 4 spaces away, and my catapults can hit them first if move 1-3 spaces away. The catapults can also reach any tile in Regulus's BFC.

I also sent the following to Jkaen concerning his galley moving up the inner coast: Quote:[COLOR="DarkOrange"]Please don't take offense at this, but your galley is moving into a position where it can provide very useful intel to Lewwyn.
I'm willing to keep open borders with you on the following condition: you explicitly guarantee that you won't give lewwyn any information whatsoever about my troops, my techs or my territory.

Jkaen hasn't responded, I'm probably going to close borders with him this turn.
I've started playing the turn, but haven't finished. I have to make some decisions that are going to have a big impact on things.
Here's a mid-turn save
Of course Theology is in so we can start getting an extra promotion on our units: I took a couple of risky battles that I didn't really have a choice on. The result? A great general: Nothing hiding in the fog... The primary problem: Those knights are in range of Bellatrix, but not in range of the catapults. I was a bit worried he would stage them there, but there isn't a decent spot for the catapults that would have been in range. I can have 5 pikemen and an axe inside the city, and an additional pikemen(plus a wounded mace) in front of it.
The problem is... I don't know if I should. I'm in a situation where I don't think I can afford to properly defend Bellatrix(because he may take it anyway), but it's also not a city I can afford to lose(even if it costs him 10 knights.) As long as I hold Bellatrix, I can defend Castor/Pollux with very little or nothing. (I'm not worried about losing the iron; Kuro has agreed to provide iron if necessary.)
What's the right play here? Any suggestions, guys?

I had a friendly chat with Lewwyn last night after I sent the turn. I don't think he really expects his knights to gain any more ground any time soon. He could probably get further than he thinks, but it would require him to take more risks as well as divide his forces. Either way, he's thrashed me pretty well, though it would have been a lot worse if I hadn't sacrificed 3 cities to preserve my forces. Thankfully Regulus is quite defensible.
I've told him I don't think there's any chance of him not winning at this point, but I'm willing to play on as long as he is.

T147 in. I'm finally getting the tools I need to stop the assaults, but it's too little, too late. Here's the current "front" in the war. I seem to have discouraged them from Bellatrix/Regulus at least for now. They've apparently noticed how quickly those cities can be reinforced and are now focusing on my more vulnerable island cities. My preferred target for them to focus on is Alphecca due to its defensibility, so I've deliberately left it pretty weak until recently. I've had units not too far away for awhile, ready to reinforce the only central hill city.
Last turn, they moved to strike at Alphecca and I reinforced it. I expected them to avoid attacking Alphecca this past turn and threaten Fomalhaut instead, but they tried attacking Alphecca and then moved toward Fomalhaut. The result is 1 dead pike and 3 dead knights; fine by me. Fomalhaut can't be saved regardless, but I'll whip a pike to hopefully kill something in the process. I'm hoping to be able to kill enough knights to either hold Alphecca/Antares or force a stalemate overall.
Unfortunately only one catapult could hit those knights this turn, but I think it did enough. Fomalhaut is going down, and surrounded by ships. Caravel and galley to the north vs 1 caravel to the south. I vote south. My two boats ought to be able to take it down together. Or the caravel does it alone. Wonderful. I don't expect it to survive much longer regardless. My central cities need land units too much to reinforce the navy sufficiently.
The land battles went reasonably well as well. I was able to wipe out his eastern group of 2 longbows and a wounded knight(before it could promote) as well as I expect to lose Fomalhaut next, but hopefully I can wipe out more knights with the 4 pikes I moved north from Antares.
