0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.
Edit: Ninja'd by novice showing that, yes, he can argue effectively with a post restriction.

Well, technically, that wasn't an edit, that's the original post, no idea why I wrote edit. Also, novice

Either we don't have a baner or the baner is an idiot. Looks like Zakalwe & novice really scared the scum - kill Zakalwe and very anti-town post restriction on novice. Suggest we look very hard at their suspects.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
pindicator Wrote:You've got to admit, there is a funny bit of irony in novice being hit with that particular restriction. At least you have experience with it
Experience faking it.
novice
Sareln. For a guy who has too busy to contribute, I find it awfully convenient he was around for the Mattimeo wagon. After Serdoa moved on to thestick but signalled his willingness to also vote Mattimeo and pindicator voted for him, Sareln posted a vote on him almost immediately.
1) Do you think his general tone is suspicious
2) Do you think he is suspicious for acting differently than in prior games
3) Are there specific things in any of the posts you think we should pay attention to?
4) Do you think his vote targets were suspicious
5) Is there any additional context (protecting thestick, not standing by a case, etc) we should be aware of?

Qgqqqqq Wrote:Eh, I don't think a day 1 post saying you're a bit busy at the moment and might not be able to post until the end, is worthy of any great suspicion.

catwalk
Qgqqqqq Wrote:Basically this.
I hate to vote on a absentee, but this second post just rings false. catwalk
Qgqqqqq Wrote:Um after that (frankl wierd post) catwalk is looking suspicious again, but ill sayuberfish for a slew of wierd posts/arguements.

Saw the result yesterday after work, so good job village. Will have to re-read the whole thread again, once I get back, as I'm out of town for the day. Hopefully we get some more scum slipping up and getting shot.
I actually wouldn't be too surprised if Novice was just faking the post restriction for fun no matter what alignment he is.
In any case, as outlined last night I suspect Twinkletoes89 - I feel his voting behaviour on pp25-29 fits a likely scum voting profile, and also that village TT is usually one to form his own opinions rather than just follow others.
I think novice's point against qqqqq is that his stance on catwalk/myself is inconsistent. Qqq basically agrees with me that catwalk is suspicious, but instead of voting catwalk or taking sides in the thestick/matt/bigger votes decides to park his vote on me for the day anyway. Qqqq, what about my play struck you as weird?
