Really, looking back there is not a lot we could have done to prevent this.
Especially since we had no warning....

Especially since we had no warning.... Too much farmer's gambit imo. I think having land to ourself made military seem less a priority than it should have been. Also didn't help we only had iron (so couldn't start building metal units until quite a few turns into the game). Combine the slow fishing start, GLH run (so needed to catch up in expansion), poor production, and lack of early metal and we shouldn't be too surprised about what happened. If we would have had a good second city (i.e. land based food) to spam workers/settlers plus at least a decent production city for military production, things could have turned out quite differently. Seeing how our production was so low (lack of hills to mine), we should have beelined MC/Col to get workshops down early and just ran caste.

It wasn't that big a farmers gambit. We did keep an eye on our neighbours power buildup.
What we didn't do was scout fast enough. Good lesson for next game.
Here is the new turn:
Serdoa build Hanging Gardens. Good for him!
We got 3 archers in CC and walls, Scooter has 2 axes and 1 chariot. More coming next turn.
We'll hold on for 1 more turn.
I didn't whip, choice is yours.
Did change build in clams to an Archer, we really don't need Wealth anymore.
Swapped workshop for pigs in FG to grow next turn and whip better.
Not a lot more to do.
You can play and end turn....
Oh yeah, no sign of Space anymore...

I whipped the cat to get rid of pop but we'll lose CC this turn. Finally got around to exploring further west and found 4 galleys plus a settler disembarked on the PH island (to guard against naval attack). Hmm, looks like Scooter & Co even had time to build a settler. Our GGeneral and axe are headed to FG. I went ahead and kept the trireme with the galley as protection (plus we need to guard our seafood at FG anyway). Maybe we can eventually build a settler of our own and settle the silk? Ended turn.

Space re-appeared..had a pic I wanted to post but photobucket isn't working right now. CC still around and I guess they want to sac a cat first before attacking. Anyway, nothing really to do so ended turn.

Thanks! We lost CC (looking at CivStats).
Turns will only get easier.... How about building a settler and sail into the sun?

Finally some blood:
CC is gone, but at least we took some units from Scooter. I'm not sure they'll be able to get their civ going in the new lands.
Maybe Space will invade soon.
Someone build Statue of Zeus.
Didn't move any units, just removed a lot of signs....
