True, but I don't have enough tech in 1 turn to knock off DR. I am trying to max out my overflow.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I'm more bugged by the "try and" grammatical construct than by the strategy. smile It's public relations spin, implying that whatever is tried is going to be successful with no other possibility. To see how the grammar doesn't work, port it to other tenses: one doesn't say "I tried and landed Divine Right" or "I have tried and have landed Divine Right". It doesn't work because the verbs are not parallel; you are not "trying Divine Right" and "landing Divine Right". The second verb is an infinitive. It's "try to". banghead wink

@T-Hawk - how do you feel about 'I tried to get off of the bus'?

But point taken. I know the right grammar (and nearly always the right speling) but I don't take the time to proof read what I type. As nearly everyone at RB should know by reading my posts by now.

There's nothing wrong with it. It does imply that the speaker (not necessarily our Speaker) failed. If you actually did get off the bus, there's no need for the "tried"; just write "I got off the bus."

Nothing personal at you Ruff. "try and" just bothers me. lol at Ruff Ruffman though smile

I thought the 'tried' would throw you. I was actually talking about the 'off of'. I hate that. And I have only heard it while in America so I think it is an American thing. Why not say 'I got off the bus'? The 'of' after the 'off' is redundant.

Hah. I omitted the "of" without even knowing that's what you were going for. I agree, "off" is already a preposition and another isn't needed.

But it can be unclear, since "off" can be a (slang) verb: "I helped Bob off a horse."... lol

Hmmm ... I do use "try and" from time to time, strictly for aesthetic reasons:

"I'm going to try to get to the bus stop on time" just has too many 'to's in too small a space.

(Of course, the real solution when not being lazy is to rework the sentence - to eliminate the clumsiness instead of hiding it. "I'll try to reach the bus stop on time" is a start.)
