city #4 goes where?

to the northern corn/wheat/horses city? that city is a strong production location - two food bonuses, horses, and three hills.

That's what I'm thinking as well, and it also lets us set up a naval city to explore the sea up north.

Our fifth city can go by the copper. It's already in our borders, so we don't need to do so, but we might as well start expanding west anyway.

Our sixth city can probably get the silver, but we need to explore more.

*Will run some sims soon...

Looking good.

Sorry, I've been unavailable for a couple of days. Hope to be back in discussion soon.
Here is some e-mails from Maga & Asterix:

Quote:Hello Alexey,

Thank you very much for your information. We are very concerned about Care Bears, we have only 5 turn NAP with them and they refused not to settle aggressively towards us (that is passing the half-half distance between our capitols), saying it would "negate their IMP trait" frown. Obviously, them having twice as many cities as anybody else - and having Fast Workers on the top of it - is concerning by itself.

We are putting 100% EP on them currently and we were hoping you could do the same so that at least we know what they are up to. Do you know if they have AH yet? We suspect they do not have it.

Thank you very much for the screenshots, they were very interesting. Unfortunately, they do not overlap at all with the area we explored. Could you tell us how many tiles South and East their Corn/Incense city Loveheart is from their or your capitol? there is no denying they are settling aggressively, we have settled so far very close to our capitol location on NS line and were planning to continue doing so, but may have to revise our plans in light of their actions. Do you also have a clear idea about their units? we do see their graphs, but with their constant whipping and chopping decoding them is not easy. So far we only saw their scout - which is still alive - and a warrior protecting one of their Fast Workers near their capitol.

With respect to meeting Orgynized, their lost their scout early on, so likely you would have to travel towards them. I do not know where thei second city is, but I will give you coordinates of their capitol, have only log in into the game.

All the best,

Asterix & Maga

BTW, I wanted to confirm that we are very happy to have NAP with you. Can you remind me how long it was? Any extra provisions?

Quote:Orgy Nized capitol is 15 tiles to the West from you and 3 tiles North. I attach the overview screenshot to help guide you.

I also think I know how far away Yuufo's love city is from me, but confirmation would be very helpful. I also see more of his culture toward me than you screenshot suggests, so looks like he continued settling towards me with his city #4 frown. He whipped again this turn, I dread to think where his settler would go this time. I also attach screenshot of Yuufo's culture I see.

Turn 47 - 2120 BC

Our mine on the hill is finished, speeding up the settler by a turn. (Then next turn a chop finishes.)

Note here that unfortunately we won't get our city up by turn 49. Stanford will instead be up on turn 50 (but will have instant trade route connection). Also it doesn't really matter since we were going to revolt to slavery on turn 49 anyway.

I've got a simulation save set up at the turn 46 point. This mirrors the real game as much as possible.

Wow, now that's pretty interesting news! I'd definitely be interested in negotiating some sort of alliance with Asterix down the road.

Just a quick comment ... where are you getting these email messages? I'm not seeing them on the team email account --- can we ask them to send all email there?

Some ideas on micromanagement (and a few other things)

I ran another simulation in the hopes of us maintaining a strong position by turn 70. Here's a current proposed plan. Also, see the end of this post for ideas on diplomacy.

Just an FYI: This plan has us with 2 fewer gold than in real game since we don't have another team building SH.

The proposed plan:

Turn 48: Two chops will have finished this turn, so both the worker and settler are 1 turn to completion.

Worker A: Chops (3/3), so he is finished and has no additional movement points
Worker B: Moves 1 tile south, roads (1/2)
Worker C: Chops (3/3)

Turn 49: REVOLT TO SLAVERY. Settler is done from CM, and Worker D is done from MIT (so no better time than now). Agriculture finished, start Pottery.

Worker A: Roads (1/2), we will need this for later when we settle north, ideally with the fourth city.
Worker B: Roads (2/2)
Worker C: Mines (1/4), the capital will need it once it grows to size 5.
Worker D: Move 3-1 (via roads) and then roads (1/2)

Settler: Move 1-4 to be 1 turn away from the city site.

Turn 50: Stanford is founded!

Worker A: Roads (2/2)
Worker B: Move 1-1, then road (1/2) to get horses connected ASAP.
Worker C: Mines (2/4)
Worker D: Roads (2/2). Do this before the city is founded to get the trade route!

CM: Starts on a warrior, due in 3 turns (and will grow to size 5 in 3 turns)
MIT: Put a few turns into a settler, MIT will regrow to size 4 then continue settler from there.
Stanford: Starts a 4-turn warrior, works the grassland mine.

Pictures for Turn 50 (we currently have 4 workers, 3 cities, and 3 warriors, plus a scout):

Turn 51: No major news this turn.

Worker A: Move 3 (i.e. grass forest 8-7 of CM
Worker B: Roads (2/2).
Worker C: Mines (3/4)
Worker D: Move 1, roads (1/2)

No micro changes in cities.

Turn 52: No major news this turn.

Worker A: Chop (1/3)
Worker B: Move onto horses (ideally with warrior protection) and roads (1/2)
Worker C: Mines (4/4)
Worker D: Roads (2/2)

Micro:

Capital now switches from a 2F 1H forest to a 4H plains hill mine for more overflow into next turn.

Turn 53: Capital grows to size 5. Bring research down to 80% to still finish Pottery next turn.

Worker A: Chop (2/3)
Worker B: Wait until worker D moves and roads the horses. Then move 3-3 via road to road the wheat.
Worker C: Moves 1 south, roads (1/2), I think this is better to road since we're going to use it to move south, and we don't need to road the plains hill mine in the capital as in all likelihood it will not have a resource.
Worker D: Moves 1, then finishes the road on the horses. This move allows worker B to move to the wheat.

Micro:

CM: Start settler
MIT: Continue settler but will grow to size 4 once horses are hooked up
Stanford: Gives up mine so work 2F 1H forest.

Pictures:

Turn 54: Pottery finished, start Writing, but turn research down to 0%.

Worker A: Chop into Carnegie Mellon finished.
Worker B & D: Both come together on the tile 1 of Stanford to cottage (2/4).
Worker C: Starts cottage (1/4), save road for later.

Micro:

Cities: nothing changes

Turn 55: Research back to 100%, Stanford's borders expand.

Worker A: Move 8-7 on hill.
Worker B & D: Both pasture horse (2/4)
Worker C: Cottage (2/4)

CM: Whip settler for 2 population, next turn will overflow into a granary.
MIT: Get pigs now, work gold, cows, pigs
Stanford: Start granary, get control of 1F 3H tile again.

Current tiles (CM when whipped gives up the pigs and a grass hill mine:

Turn 56: Settler in capital done. Horses hooked up. Research back to 0%.

Worker A: Road (1/2)
Worker B & D: Horse (4/4)
Worker C: Cottage (3/4)

Settler: Move onto tile 1 south of worker A.

CM: Can grow using 3 max food tiles AND build granary in 1 turn. smile (See screenshot). We can also build a chariot in 1 turn for insurance.
MIT: Work gold, cows, grass hill mine.
Stanford: Continue granary, but get the horses.

Screenshots:

Turn 57: Research back to 100%. Capital finishes granary (or chariot if necessary) and starts on a chariot (or granary if chariot needed earlier).

Worker A: Road (2/2)
Worker B & D: Wheat farm (2/5)
Worker C: Cottage (4/4)

Settler moves via road worker A created, then 7. Ideally we'll have some warriors out there.

Turn 58: Settler moves 1 north, again hopefully we have the warriors there.

Worker A: Move 8.
Worker B & D: Wheat farm (4/5)
Worker C: Road (2/2)

Micro doesn't change, capital still grows grows.

Turn 59: UC Berkeley (city #4) founded this turn. Unfortunately, the worker won't have a road finished in time. Settler done in MIT. Move settler to our projected city 5 site.

Worker A: Road (1/2)
Worker B: Wheat farm (5/5)
Worker C: Move onto forest 2N of capital (road to copper)
Worker D: Move 8, cottage (3/4)

CM: Work fish, deer, cottage, and plains hill mine. Work on chariot.
MIT: Work gold, cow, pigs. Work on chariot.
Stanford: Work the wheat
UC Berkeley: No change

Turn 60 (end of simulation): Settler should be very close to wherever we want city 5. We do need defense but we don't need some interior warriors and we will get chariots up soon.

Overall situation

Worker A: Road (1/2)
Worker B: Wheat farm (5/5)
Worker C: Move onto forest 2N of capital (road to copper)
Worker D: Move 8, cottage (3/4)

CM: Work fish, deer, cottage, and plains hill mine. Work on chariot.
MIT: Work gold, cow, pigs. Work on chariot.
Stanford: Work the wheat
UC Berkeley: No change

So ideally we have 4 cities, with a 5th to be founded on turn 61, with chariots coming in soon. One downside is that this plan is low on workers ... and Stanford is 'over-improved', i.e. we're improving it too fast. Perhaps we can divert a worker north ... or we could settle our 5th city towards Orgynized. But we really do need to move east as well. Any comments? In particular, should MIT even build a settler? Do we want to grow it to size 4 and then build, or invest some turns into settler, then grow to size 4, have chariot done, then finish settler?

Edit: Yeah, upon further thought, I think I'd be happy if MIT could wait until size 4 to build a settler. Then what does it do in the meantime? Yet another worker? If we can get it so that it goes Worker -> Granary (partial) -> Chariot (finish) -> Settler that might be decent, but MIT grows too slowly without the pigs to whip.

Edit again: How about sticking with a settler, but have MIT grow to size 4 ASAP once horses are hooked up, then do chariot -> settler? Then again, that's the time when the capital should grow too.

After MIT grows to size 4 and finishes a chariot, we can start a worker there...Stanford and CM should get libraries once their current builds are done.

On Diplomacy

Right now, I'm happy with the way we've set up relations with Care Bears and Asterix. Both seem reasonably nice to us. Right now, those two seem to be running into some problems with each other over settled land, which is good for us. In light of that, and also due to Care Bears' rapid expansion, we really should be siding with Asterix if there's ever some sort of conflict. Let's send a few messages to him in the near future to explore some of these (admittedly long-term) ideas. We also need to centralize our messaging; can we do all correspondence with one email account?

my suggestion would be to start up a PB14 gmail account specifically for our team, if you haven't already, and use it whenever doing diplomacy.

Quote:Hello Alex,

I have noticed that the screenshots you sent me was from 4 days ago - can you please send me also the current one?

As I said, I ma very concerned about the Bears and their plans to leverage their IMP trait no matter what frown. To make things worse, I just learnt this turn that both my copper and horse are on their side - I mean, closer to my capitol, but based on the way they are expanding rapidly and refusing land division agreement, I consider racing to these locations myself, although my chances of winning are slim frown. Anyway, having a more detailed view of the horse area would be very helpful. Do you want more detailed screenshots of the land before you and orgynized? For some reason I had problem with attaching more than one picture to the previous email.

Best Wishes,

Asterix with Maga

Quote:Hello Maga and Asterix,

Sorry, I was busy for last couple days and didn't pay much attention to PB14. I'll try to reply in full on your e-mails in the next few hours. And send screenshots as well.

Thank you for all information you've sent. There is a lot to think about our mutual neighbour.

I'll send you screenshots. But from what I see now, team CareBears have better land and resources locations than our team.
Their 3rd city grab Copper in the first ring (our team finished BW not long ago). Most likely, their copper is already connected or will be very soon.
They had close riverside corn and flood plains in their culture.
They were first to found religion (Confu) in their city#2 near corn. That city is slightly in your direction.

They could have some problems with expences, I hope. Their gold resource (could be in city#4) isn't improved yet, I'd guess.

Our team and team CareBears agreed to NAP till T60 so far.

Just a reminder, Maga and me agreed in our PM's to formal NAP till T90 (included). And we agreed to start early negotiation to prolong it around T70.
We are very interested in more cooperation with your team.

I'll send screenshots and some more text later today.

-TeddyKGB.

I did forward last e-mails to our team adress.
I was using my main e-mail account (which is connected with our team e-mail) to send msgs. I'll ask team M&M to send mail to dick76dmock e-mail.
