Yep, we've got something wicked this way coming, or at least looking to come. Dtay has dumped a ton of EP on us, and double-reinforced Ursa Major, the tiny little filler culture pusher. I see no reason to put two fresh infantry there unless it's for murder.

Although I'd agree the evidence supports the End, it seems to me that you're worried about the wrong half. I'd consider the EP to be the scary bit. Infantry visibly present on the border could be just to keep us out when he redeclares on Portugal.

Agreed. Although this stack behind Ursa Minor says...mmmmno.

You call that a stack, BOY?

You have to say that with the voice of Foghorn Leghorn, right?

Okay, my wife and baby boy got horribly sick over the weekend, and I'm about to be on travel, so hard to find the time to properly report on everything. But I owe at least an annotated picture dump:

First and by far most important, got a Grand Master help my forge. Need more events like this, less like free pinch for every musket ever.

Anyway, we had a bit of a problem. Dtay's movements made it clear he wanted to hit, but he wasn't pulling the trigger. I suspect he was waiting to kick off before Plako could declare, timed after a second NAP-treaty with 2nm. I got a ton of units, but they're only enough to stop one, and infantry/cannon are hard to stop with primitive stuff even then.

I did get one very nice wrinkle; I opened the next turn to Gawdzak asking for money...as payment for this sweet new hotness.

So, what to do? Interestingly, Dtay has very little out east right now, just one city on the coast. Noted, logged.

Out west, Dtay has vast and extensive island holdings...and more than enough frigates to hold them in a strait-up fight.

But waiting will kill us. So why not declare ourselves first? 2mn's treaty with Dtay is about to expire, Dtay just launched a golden age and would rather be building golden things. Best to declare, show how much it can hurt, and offer peace to get a 5t treaty stagger going. Here we go!

MAXIMUM OVERKILL happens first, of course...destroyer vs. trireme. Stupid Commodore should have promoted Drill in this case, but meh.

I also took down the one ironclad out east with a frigate pair, and moved up with the less-elite fleet on that side to threaten the port.

Sadly? Didn't work...Dtay offered a cease fire which is worthless. So I opted to hurt him a bit more...

Dtay's main stack I sniped a bit with the destroyer, that's nice...

Herologium, a prime bit of turf...and perfect for our new pirate base. I know he's got Infantry defending, but super-cav and super-pinchy-rifles do fine. This is my new pirate home.

Finally, Dtay hid his MASSIVE siege stack behind a hill...BUT all our horse have free flanking I. Mobility-promote, zoom-zoom, and most of the siege are flanked and destroyed. I can't find the picture, so here's a dramatic recreation instead:

No regrets. That much siege, he *was* planning on hitting us. Might as well be hanged for a sheep as a goat.

Any tile with that many dead cannons on it should get an iron resource popped for the recyclability. hammer

Now this is what I'm talking about. I'm assuming all those brave mounted units are dead or as good as dead, but did you kill enough siege as to make a counter strike by Dtay difficult?

Also, did you accept that fish for money deal right away? I wouldn't have really understood the code message there at first glance.
