[LURKER THREAD - NO PLAYERS] it ain't easy being green

Per the spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...id=0#gid=0), I believe it was:

Barbs on
Monarch Difficulty
Simultaneous turns
No tech trading

Someone can correct me if I missed anything.

Huts? Events? Any other of the special settings ticked? (Such as: no unit gifting, true ai diplo, no city trading, choose religions, etc)

Huts and events off. No other special setting would be ticked.

I'd say that True-AI Diplo is a default setting these days. Probably best to tick off unit gifting as well.

IMHO, the only downside to having a bananaforest with a 5f seafood is that building the WB while growing to size 2 is "the one right choice". Everything is just so much faster, and I'm not even sure how you'd manage to get more beakers working a 3H tile?

You get the workboat earlier so you accrue more commerce from the fish resource.

Worker first in 10t is not horrible. On turn 20, you are even on food and basically down a warrior in production (can't really sink those extra hammers in anything else relevant as you want to grow at that timing). On the flipside you get the worker 6t earlier. You may need to go AH with optimal starting techs to make use of that, not sure. China could go AH -> Fishing -> BW and would work stronger tiles from t20 onwards with the cattle pastured.

Just commenting here because I think this is the wrong approach. I played a bit from the Carthage start at one point in single player and you can definitely do a tight city layout without needing monuments for a while. I believe this should be the case for all the starts. In theory someone with IMP/EXP/IND could have the hammers to get GLH done faster, but it's certainly viable to skip mysticism to land it, IMO.

Building the workboat with the plains hill forest is not as bad as I initially thought. Growing to 2 with the fish and then making the worker you are down 6 food, but up 6 hammers and 8 commerce. Though banana forest workboat will catch up slightly due to being a turn ahead each city growth. The other issue is that the 6 extra hammers are in a low impact build like a second warrior or second workboat (can't be invested into foodhammer unit because then growth does not line up).

Weird that everyone seems to come up with something different on the workboat starts. By my count, PHF Workboat -> grow-to-2 -> Worker ends up "ahead" of Krill's BananaForest WB (add PHF @ size 2) -> Worker by just 4h in a warrior + 6c, and behind by no less than 12f and 2 Worker turns by the time the former's worker is complete, snowballing from there with faster growth and more worker labor. PHF Workboat -> Worker @size 1 is "up" on Krill's by 2h + 6c and one worker turn by the time Krill's worker is complete, but down by 20 food and struggles to grow onto its good tiles, falling behind the snowball. I suspect that everyone's taking slightly different paths post-worker and using different turns for comparison, but maybe I'm just missing something?

My calculation was wrong. I did it with 6 hammers into initial wb every turn but it's only 5, so that option is a turn farther behind than I erroneously thought.
