EUROCOM base placed in the Alps

Added Additional Living Quarters, General Stores, Alien Containment and Large Radar to our starting base layout
If you’re adding facilities, please remember not to add them adjacent to hangers or the entry point – otherwise the aliens will infiltrate behind you on base assaults

Best craft weapons at this stage are Avalanche missiles – two launchers on each Interceptor

Sell Stingray launchers, missiles, Cannon & Ammo. Also pistols, rocket launcher, heavy cannon & ammo. Some people like Autocannon so I’ve left that for you to experiment with.
Bought 3 Avalanche Launchers, 15 missiles, 20 Scientists, 2 soldiers, 10 proximity grenades, 12 flares, 2 rifles, 5 rifle clips, 5 grenades and 5 smoke grenades
Set our 10 scientists onto Laser Weapons
Rename soldiers to forum members & add more rifles, grenades to skyranger
Start advancing time.
Before any nice goodies or re-inforcements arrive we get first UFO – a landed one at night ! Bravely go for it with 8 under-equipped soldiers and no flares

We start right next to the UFO in NW corner of map (first image)
First out of the ranger is Fire&Ice – jumps down & spots 2 aliens immediately – floaters (second image)
He runs back & hides behind the landing gear. Mist and Uberfish prime grenades and wait. Ug does the same with a smoke grenade

No aliens spotted in hidden movement but UFO door opening sounds

Turn 2 No aliens in sight. Fire&Ice moves up a little. Ug exists ranger and throws smoke grenade at second aliens last location. Mist exits and throws grenade a little farther away bracketing target
Others move up and antisocialmunky primes grenade

Hidden movement – grenades explode but no screams

Turn 3 spread out a little from ranger (first image)

Turn 4 Move up to cover UFO door

Turn 5 antisocialmunky first through UFO door with primed grenade. (second image)

Sees two floaters facing away & drops grenade between them. Reaction shot from an unseen alien misses & he runs back out the door.

Hidden – grenade explodes but no screams

Turn 6 Mist jumps through the door, sees 3 aliens facing him & runs out again. No reaction fire luckily! Ug steps up and fires burst through doorway, killing two aliens but also spotting a fourth one inside. Reaction fire misses. (third image)
Antisocialmunky steps up, primes and throws a grenade inside – his aim is off though and instead lands it in the pilot seat.

Hidden – grenade explodes but no screams. Door destroyed so antisocialmunky becomes a target. First shot from fourth floater wounds him (2 crits) but second hits other floater in the back & kills it

Turn 7 antisocialmunky kills fourth floater with a series of snapshots (2 misses then a hit). Fire&Ice, Dazed, Ug and Mist move up a little.

Turns 8-9 Slow cover & move advance. Antisocialmunky goes to ‘guard’ the UFO

Hidden – shot from darkness beyond hedge SW of UFO kills Sulla.

Turn 10 Dazed advanced around hedge into orchard with primed grenade, hoping to spot alien but doesn’t. Hides behind tree in the orchard. Others move up in support.

Hidden – shot from darkness in orchard kills Dazed, grenade explodes & vapourizes him.

Turn 11 Ug and Uberfish both throw grenades over hedge attempting to bracket alien.

Hidden – grenades explode but no screams. However they do mow down all the tree.
Alien is spotted and the fireworks really start.
Fire&Ice reaction fires from distance but misses. Alien floater fires back killing him.
Uberfish reactions fires and hits but no obvious effect.

Turn 12 Mist rounds the hedge from the east, spots the floater (three levels up) and snapshots twice, missing both. Uberfish snapshots & kills it.

Turn 13 Haphazard picks up Fire&Ice’s grenades & moves to join Uberfish. Mist and Ug pair up to advance around orchard towards eastern barn.

Turn 14 Mist spots floater in upper window of eastern barn (image 1)

He fires two snapshots but only makes holes in the wall
Ug fires two more snapshots – they both hit and kill the floater

Turn 15 Both pairs move slowly towards the barns

Hidden – Another floater appears on upper floor of eastern barn. It shoots twice at Mist but misses. Two reaction shots each from Mist and Ug – three hit but no kill and floater moves back from sight
Another alien is spotted briefly on upper floor of western barn

Turn 16 Uberfish & Haphazard rush to wall near western barn entrance. Ug and Mist crouch waiting to shoot the alien in the eastern barn should it re-appear

Hidden – eastern floater pops out and Mist shoots it. But it doesn’t die & drops a grenade on him instead. Ug shoots it between the eyes but too late – the blast shreds Mist

Turn 17-18 Uberfish & Haphazard advance into the western barn. Haphazard peers up the stairs and takes 2 shots from the alien waiting at the top. Luckily he’s only grazed and his automatic fire in reply sends the floater crashing through the outer wall

Remember to buy replacements – suggest you sell 5 engineers for now to make room until new living quarters are finished. Also remember to equip interceptors with launchers when they arrive

Ok first thing. I’ve found out how to do screen captures but it took a while.
Within the game, press control and F5 together.
This should capture screenshot under :
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\xcom ufo defence\capture

Second thing - you'll find alt-tab or otherwise to keep notes does interesting things to the DOS box session.

I'll try and improve on the images with alternate hosting for next time

lol Indeed - you were the backup

You start with 8 rifles on the Skyranger so the additional two purchased would give us ten (the maximum soldiers we can squeeze in until new living quarters come online or we 'sell' some engineers)

Survived and even managed to score a kill. jive Wounded...oh well.

What is team policy on wounded soldiers? If we have anyone who is going to take a month to heal, and is otherwise a complete noob, maybe fire them rather than an engineer? Or is that frowned upon?

What is team policy on selling alien loot? Keep one of everything, for future research. Hold on to anything which requires Elerium to build, especially ammo for weapons we might want to use someday. But otherwise?

What do I need to do to load the save? I am not up yet, but I am curious to check what we got. And also to be sure I can load the save. Do I need to do anything with the util, or is that already taken care of in the save itself?

Good start, Ug, although charging into a night mission with no flares and minimal kit...you're braver than I am. lol
