RBPB4 [SPOILERS] - Locke and Cervantes

Total lack of food resources in the south and southwest, our only happiness resources are one gold and one fur with no food around it. Adlain has access to Ivory and we don't. And a single peak that screws up everything.

We found 6th city Chinook. This was spot we negotiate with Nakor. Going to build road to him for OB trade route.

Teoihuacan has library and two scientists. 17 turns for Great Scientist. Hopefully will get on Turn 90. Academy in our capital would be nice. It is to bad that we dont have more happiness. Capital can not grow to size 7 since we only have gold. So we will get more settlers for the moment after those axes finish next turn.

Buddhism and Hindu are only religions taken so far. Maybe we go for religion next to get happiness. Spiritual and cheap temples would be good.

Here are Demographics. We doing pretty good. A little worried about plako though. He is #1 in Food, Prod, and GNP. Hopefully he mess up at some point and we get ahead.

I guess mackoti/luddite war didnt happen. It is strange because I saw they were fighting. Then next time I log into game they are not fighting. I guess they change things after reload. But I thought you had to do same thing on reload? I dont udnerstand.

Here is our civ. We found Apache this turn by horses. We are second civ to 7 cities. This would be real good if plako didnt have 8 cities. Apache will be military city. Plan for Heroic Epic and Moai here. It has fish and cows for food. Lots of hills to mine. Should be good city.

We save gold for last few turns to make run at Code of Laws. Now it is due in 6 turns. So we will get religion on turn 88 or we will not. Cannot change at this point. Code of Laws is key for 2 reasons. Hopefully we get religion which is key for Spi civ. That would get us 1 happy from religion and second happy from cheap temple. Other reason is Caste System civic. We are Spi in this game. That means we can change civic every 5 turn. So plan is to do that. We can force Artist in new cities for free border expansion. We can get more than 2 Scientist in high food cities. We plan to change alot. People dont use Spi enough in games. You go to Slavery whenever you need to whip and Caste System whenever you dont. Ditto for drafting later.

So big problem right now is happiness. Only have gold resource. Cannot get capital past size 6 cannot get other citeis past 5. With whip cities can only go to size 4. So we go for reigion for happy and we settle this spot:

Only place we can get furs and silver with one city. It is terrible spot but we need happy. Can take fish from Chinook and be OK I guess. Cervantes is mad because we look at other teams and they get furs silver much easier. Like Nakor has them south of capital in nice river spot. We have crap land at bottom of map. Furs to the west in spot with no food. Furs here in tundra wasteland. Silver with no food anywhere close. So happiness set us back because these spots so tough to settle. But with Caste System we can force Artist for border expansion. Do not need to whip monument. So now we can settle crap terrain and get happy. Lack of happy resources set us back alot so far. With religion (cross fingers) and furs silver we can grow upwards again.

Ansazi whip settler for this spot next turn. Plant city turn 88 with help from workers building roads. We also grow capital past happy cap right now. Since more happiness coming soon it is a good idea. Only cost pennies in maintenance. Then capital can work lots more tiles once we get happiness. We also training Great Scientist in Teoihuacan. Have been working 2 Scientists there for awhile. City will get Great Scientist in 8 more turns. Will have Academy and library in capital soon. Get to size 10 working 7 cottages with Academy. That should be pretty good.

Apparently we are #3 in most stuff. We match up good against everyone but plako. He is runaway civ. We still have tons of expansion room so we keep doing that and hope he screw up somewhere.

OK well this was big turn for us. We get religion on schedule:

Religion appear in Olmec. That is good spot for us. Pretty good city and not on border where it could be capture. Bad thing is it take 2 turns for free missionary to walk to capital.

Here is south I put in spoiler because picture is big:

We found Chehalis this turn for furs and silver. It is bad city but we need happy resource very bad. I triple whip Chinook for library (size 6 to size 3) and then swap civic to Caste System. This is why we want Code of Laws. Spi is awesome when you use right. I force Artist in Chehalis at size 1. City no growth but expands border in 3 turns. Much better than trying to get monument/library in here. Spi lets us pretend to be Creative. Border expand turn 91 and workers have camp on furs turn 92. More workers building long road in south to silver. That take a little longer finish around turn 95. It sucks to waste worker turns on long road in tundra. Need silver though. Maybe with Sailing tech and little river in tundra we could get by with just road on silver iself (?) But workers moving there anyway. Probably best to build road while they go. We will get city by crabs eventually.

Teoihuacan at 92/100 Great Scientist points. So I force extra Scientist in there this turn with Caste System. 3 Scientist, -1 food this turn. We get GScientist next turn, Academy in capital T90. I see one other team just get Great Scientist in fog. Probably plako. We just a little slower than them. I turn off research until we get Academy in capital cause 100% will be worth more then.

Capital is size 8 almost size 9. Only has happiness for size 6 though. So people in Cherokee are very unhappy LOL. We get religion on turn 90, furs turn 92, silver turn 95, and will build cheap Spi temple. So we will be happy at size 10 in about 8 turns. With Academy and library in Cherokee that should help GNP a lot. We can work like 7-8 grassland cottages there no problem.

Apache finish granary with forest chop. Now we force Artist to expand borders. Work boat from Teoihuacan is ready to claim fish. Workers in place to pasture cows. We pretend to be Cre again here. This get much faster growth than waiting for monument or library. We wanted city to be on peak tile but that was not an option. banghead

Anasazi, Zapotec, and Chinook all grow next turn. Some of them grow into unhappiness but we not care cause furs coming soon. Thank god. Olmec building settler for next city on blue spot. This is good location with pigs and many grassland river tiles. Should probably be Adlain territory but he very slow to expand. Oh well his loss. I want Slavery to whip Olmec settler and Caste System to expand border at blue. If we could change civics every turn I would.

Sailing tech next for lighthouse. Then probably cheap stuff like Archery, Masonry (wall), Poly/Monotheism (OR civic also good for Spi civ). mackoti expects to be in war with luddite soon. We helped mackoti out by gifting him warrior to upgrade. I dont know what going on there. Stalemate war is always good if it happen. We hope for that.

Lots of teams plant cities in fog very fast. Nakor get 3 cities in 5 turns. Moogle get 3 cities in 3 turns. Parkin get 4 cities in 3 turns! I dont see how they can have workers for that. Look at our new cities, all have workers there with roads and imporoved tiles. How can you do that with 4 cities in 3 turns? I dont understand. Spam cities without workers/tile is dumb in Civ4. I hope thats whats going on here. We can see Nakor cities and most of them are bad. He definitely did not have workers ready for them. Cannot see Moogle Parkin so hope that is the same thing.

Demos are blah. We hope that they will get better with happy resources. We been stuck with low happy cap for very long time.

Haha, noice, get reduced maintenance, drain ~80-100 beakers from your rivals, and get some goodwill. After all, I don't see how a single warrior will help in any classical age war.

I think your play is quite solid. Congrats for founding Confucianism, any plans to force out a GPriest at ~30% odds or so? Also, do you mind showing off your demonumbers anyway?

EDIT: Looking at Picture #2, you don't need to build a road down to the silver tile. In fact, you don't need a road at all, the riverside and in-culture coast automatically connects the silver to the Chehalis plot group (once the borders pop), and the east road will connect the silver to the capital. All you gotta do is build a mine on the silver.

Event log is very busy these turns. We get free Confucianism spread into Ansazi. This is great because otherwise city would be unhappy at size 5. It still has whip unhappy face. We also get random Jewish spread into Teoihuacan. That is more good news, we can get more cheap religion temples and get monastery in capital later. Adlain also sending us Buddhism missionary. So if we get Conf + Budd + Jew monasteries in capital that is 30% extra science. Pretty good.

I spread religion in capital with free missionary this turn. Also use Great Scientist for Academy. This is what that look like:

Still 2 people unhappy LOL. But science is pretty good. We get furs in 2 turns and I build temple in 4 turns. It say 5 turns but we pick up hill tile with furs and complete it faster. And then silver in about 4 turns to. So we will be happy at size 10 really soon just as I say before.

I save picture for Demos until we get Academy. Now I turn on science again at 100%:

GNP is very good. jive That not really fair though because we cant stay at 100% research. I check break even number at 50% and GNP is 119. But lots of other teams know Sailing tech so we get discount and that number also inflated. I check 50% research on Horseback Riding (no one has that I think) and our GNP is 104. Which is still #3 overall. Our science is good now. We will get Sailing, Archery, and Masonry at 1 turn research each next.

Next turn we get border pops in two cities from Artist use. They both go onto fish resource. That trades some GNP culture for 10 food. I not happy with that Food number needs to be higher. Should go up fast because cities can grow with extra happy now. Prod we dont care. Most cities whip for hammers now. Power will go up with techs and more units. Anasazi and Apache will be military cities. Double A cities LOL. We are not doin bad there really just middle of pack. Luddite has super high Power right now so it pull up Average number. mackoti is in some trouble we think.

Population is good. plako has most total pop. We think us and Parkin and luddite are all close for second there. We can see teams close to us this is what they have:

Us 34
mackoti 27
Nakor 24
Adlain 15

That is population point not what show up on Demo screen. Plako probably has a little over 40 pop. We not sure what Parkin/luddite have we think about same as us. Hope to get more scouting done.
