[SPOILERS] Wang Kon of Arabia (Adlain & ManiaMuse)

It seems like a good broad strategy to hold back someone who is pulling ahead... The aim of the game is to win, presumably, so anything that helps a player achieve that should be considered even given the friendly disposition you may have towards Placko. He is in it to win it not to come second or third... It seems quite interesting.
Reply

heh - dont think that i dont know that the point of the game is to win - i know that and i will do what i can to do so (however unlikly that is) but there is also a WAY of winning.

I dont really know how to put my feelings towards this move. I agree that it is, From a Game Perspective, a good move - It just feels WRONG.......... i dont know if iot will work out as expected, as Lord Parking is soo close to plako in score/GNP etc that he wil just replace him as head hancho if it works how Locke has envisioned, and That could be bad news as 2 runaways can cancel eachother out if they get into a drawn out war, or you side with one vs the other and look for an oppertunity Vs the other streight after that war before they have had a chance to recover as the top target, imho would be the powerhouse of any alliance and that would be in this case ether plako or LP.

Meh - i hate being so indecisive.

I get your angst...

Dunno what I would do either...

The LP next target point is well made... where does it end. BUT, it does seem like that something collective needs to be done, or something to slow the leaders down.

Right, i have managed to Fix my Economy - and im about to plant a settler in the Border lands between myself and rego and (technicly) Moogle. Hopefully nobody (read: Moogle) has settled where im going with my settler, but we will find out.

Im 2nd in GNP Graphs now (fixed Economy jive) i have Currancy, Horse Riding is in, working on IW (3T), then getting preisthood (1t) Monarchy (6t) and Fudilism (7T), then im after Guilds and My camel archers with maybe a pause for construction if i deem it nessercerry at this time (most likely).

anyways - thats the quick sitrep smile

Right, after alittlewhile with no posts (again) heres a big one for 1AD

First, my local Map (not had tiome to update my main one yet,

as you can see, i have expanded alittle, i will be settling my northern settler in place, grabbing a fair chunck of land in the process, inc my Elephant if i get my culture going right that is. culture generating building and a Missionary will be proritized for this site.

Reserch is set for calander as that will allow me to get that sugar plantation online, i will camp the fur in the meantime (3T) i have another settler heading for the southern spot for the Spices and then i will be looking at placeing ether a settler on the Iron underneath that spot or go for the one between myself and Locke. Im hopeful that with Furs, Sugar and Spices at my next 2 Sites will help mitigate the Economy Bump tuntill my markets are up, so i dont do what i did lastime i expanded.

Demographs are still very Weak imho, but here they are nonetheless:

Thanks for the update Adlain. Your city screenies highlight to me that you are maybe underestimating the power of food. Food is a HUGELY important stat.

99% of the time, you should not be working unimproved specialists or citizens or unimproved tiles over an improved food tile. You're not in a situation where the 1% applies. Trust me. Try and find a way to either shrink the cities in some way whilst still working the food tiles or stopping the city growing in some other way (hint: clicking the avoid growth button is NEVER the right option).

well it does appear i have pissed off Moogle - though quite why eludes me. Yes my northern mos city is Very north, but i dont think its that much closer to him than me and whell it is my own fault for not sticking some defences on it right away............ infact i may have to do some militery drills to stop this in the future as my army doesnt even look paper thin letalone capable of stoping anyone determind to shoot me down.

amyways, here is the site in question and heres the Diplo thats taken place.

Quote:Hey there Adlain,

Perhaps we are both to blame for this, but the frequency of our messagin back and forth has simply been lacking quite a bit for two neighbors. That is probably why you chose to settle a city in what is, at best, disputed land without notifying me beforehand. Consequently, I thought my response didn't really need an advance notice either but hopefully we can keep in touch from this moment onwards.

My terms are simple enough. You will abandon your recently settled city and in return your Workers will be granted safe passage back to your lands. Any other cities you choose to settle further north of your border will be considered an act of aggression and responded to in kind.

Pleasant dreams,

Quote:Hi SleepingMoogle.

Well, i must admit i am alittle supprised at your reaction, Sure im alittle north than desired pahaps, but to send a full military Stack and demand i leave my city and never expand further north than my current holding is, to be frank, abit rich.

Now, with that said, i am willing at looking at a compromise here. I would like to keep my city, as i have already spent the hammers on getting it there, the time to move my settler has already been wasted moving him there and hell i have already upgraded one Tile and will finish the other in 1T.

Would a resource loan prehaps help smooth over this disagreement or something other than losing all the time and hammers spent on the city?? Please atleast come to the Table with somthing before you smash your way though as we have atleast been freindly when we have talked in the past and i dont see a need for that to change in the forseeable future.

Kind Regards,

Adlain

Quote:Hey Adlain,

A resource loan might have been a nice offer before my happiness cap was removed by HR, but right now it simply won't cut it. Similarly, a settling agreement would have been an option before you planted the city, but it is positioned so poorly for my own expansion plans that the current situation is simply unworkable. Nor do I feel there is much you can do right now to stop the advance.

While I am not out to create an enemy (and I don't consider you one at present), you erred when you planted that city without adequate defenses or the ability to reinforce it. The next couple of turns will probably see us either patch things up or dig in. Unfortunately that city simply must go, but anything else I am willing to negotiate.

Quote:Hi Sleeping Moogle,

It really has you rattled that much over a simple City, Fine - but please do say what your City positional workaround is then - pref Before you start knocking on my doorstep with "Big Guns" so to speak. I accept what you say about my tactical blunder of Defences - i assumed as we had all gotten along upuntill now that there was not too pressing a need for a high garrison immediately after plating - my mistake, But if, for arguments sake, i agree to allow the city to fall, what do you consider a reasonable comprimise over this then city placment wise.

Kind Regards,

Adlain

My actual thoughts are along these lines -
  • Im Pissed that he is comming at me with Weapons instead of Diplo - i thought i wasnt playing Civ V Diplo here and the first resort of the upset wasnt to attack all in sight
  • Im dissinclined to lose my city, but thats toast even if i was willing to go to war over it. I F**ked up. plain and simple, but i will learn from this and not make that mistake again.
  • There is plenty of land, why get so possesive of one peice. there are gems to the East, he has the copper, and no doubt he has plenty in his back line lat he was less than willing to share info on earlyer.

the possesive part i know i sound somehat hypercritical as i am slightly possesive of my city but if i move it 1 or 2 S hopefully i can get atleast some benifit from my worker turns already spent.

You're not playing against Civ 4 AI Diplo, either.

Think of it this way:
He can make himself stronger by attacking this city. So why shouldn't he? You admit that you can't stop him right now, and unless he gets something more valuable than the land from you, he should attack, right?

Im not saying it a bad tactic - its worked and he has what he wants afterall - but i would have liked it if he had voice his opinions first and then said what was said in the First Email - maybe its just a differance of playing styles. but fair play he has what he wants now, and i am building some militry (Mostly HA - upgradable to my UU - with afew Axes thrown in) up to stop that from happening again.

Also i have revolted into HR, Teching Fudalism now, then with my archers upgraded into LB, i will take stock of what is needed - probly take Alphabet next for Tech Visability so i can atleast see how far behind i really am and see if a Militry option (As sudgested by Rego in a Group mail) is the only way to keep up in this game.
