Quote:Hey Nicolae,
No worries about the clever RP - I struggle with that when I'm trying to talk turkey. Its fine for breezy and meaningless greetings, though. Anyway, consider the NAP signed to T100 inclusive, and hopefully we can find enough good reasons to work together that it won't be a D-day for either of us. I'm also quite happy with a contact agreement - right now you are the first neighbor we've encountered. I did not explore the dungeon, by the by, I decided to hold the turn a bit as I'd have felt pretty shady about dropping a mistform or some such on your doorstep without at least giving you time to respond.
A couple of things we may want to discuss in the near future. Our capitals... are quite close. Now I haven't explored all of the area close to your capital, and I firmly expect that my opportunities to do as such are going to be eliminated for the near future once I receive the turn back and angry lizardman has his way, but it certainly seems most of the area between us is jungle, and as such won't be very good for settling in the near term. Perhaps we could come to a gentleman's agreement to discuss any settlements directly toward the other we make before they are made? I'm not sure how much land you have to your south or west, of course. Just hoping to strike a conversation on the topic.
Perhaps we can also discuss some potential resource trades? I can't speak for Sheaim lands, but the area surrounding my capital is quite light on happiness sources. Though with all the jungle around, perhaps some health trades will have some value. The only resource I can pretty well guarantee we'll have available to trade soonish is corn. Anything useful in duplicates down there? Obviously, plenty of opportunity for mana trades down the road as well, though probably early enough we don't need to worry too much about that.
Mardoc apparently knew what an Azer was: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Azer That made one of us. ![wink wink](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/wink2.gif)
Kind Regards,
Gaspar
Huh, so the elves are closer than I thought.
Also, why do they have to have green borders? I could have noticed them then a turn earlier and been able to force real concessions out of them

The "Talk about settlements" thing feels like a scam. We are pushing fuill tilt towards bronzeworking. They have a lot of other elfy priorities. Technology wise, we should be in a better position to eat up the jungle areas than them.

Well, they aren't going to be without a warrior in their capital so this doesn't really change too much. We already knew they were close because of the speed with which we met them.
Trade wise, we have wines and rice that we know we can get doubles of. If you want to set up a potential rice for corn trade that sounds quite good. If we want long term friendship with the elves, these sort of things can be a good foundation.
Also, if you are ever curious about the creatures of Fall From Heaven, Kael created a bestiary.

Thought it would be fun to ask a silly D&D question to hopefully let down his guard. I googled Azer and they're short living versions of our Pyre Zombies.
Here's a proposed response:
Hey Gaspar,
We have rice and wine resources, I'd be interested in a rice for corn deal, and will consider any wine for other happiness resource trades. Also, there is no land to my south, it's all ocean, any expansion will inevitably be in your general direction. I believe I can utilise the jungle area easier than you can, due to how our tech paths are laid out. I can also help you in clearing that jungled gold tile in your sphere of influence, though we'd need to discuss this further.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Nicolae
Thoughts: Should we bring up our multiple wine resources? It would be a sign of good faith. I make it sound like I'm going to be pushing in his direction anyway, which is fine as the crafting/mining/bronzeworking path is not going to be a priority for the Ljos unless they want to wreck their growth curve and plonk down a jungle-choked city. Should I offer to clear that jungle gold?

Sounds pretty good. We want to be able to settle into that jungle without him calling us on prior agreements. Mentioning a potential gold clear deal sounds fine. Bringing up the wines also sounds good, to show that if he can get a doubled happiness resource then we have something to trade.

Don't you have to be at war to chop stuff ( forest/jungle whatever ) inside other people borders?

I'm pretty sure you can chop jungle in BTS during peacetime, as it doesn't give hammers. It's only forests you can't steal or disrupt.
And besides, if it turns out it's physically impossible, I'd probably have settled the land anyway.

I'm not sure you can chop inside other peoples borders... you can in neutral territory though.
And the gold looks to be third expansion, so might still be in neutral territory by the time that a deal could be organized. (Although with a creative civ, that isn't necessarily true)

No idea on the foreign jungle chopping I'm afraid, probably needs to be WBed to be sure, but either way it's a gesture of goodwill.
Finding out who the other neighbour(s) are just got pretty important, but it may be difficult to get a scout over there with the barbs about to come into full force.
If the whole map is covered in jungle that should be good for us with the BW beeline, definitely don't give too much land to the elves for free since they'd love to put off BW as long as possible.

Should post some pics:
Gaspar's scout died, I moved my warrior next to the Lizardman in question (on +50% terrain) to hopefully get rid of it. Probably won't work, it'll promote to 4.4 strength against my 4.5. I just want to get some tile improvements up and running. After all, I'm going for early worker techs here.
I also forgot to mention, I got the diplomacy star sign a turn ago. I'll try and dig up a screenshot from an earlier save, because it's kinda funny and appropriate.
