Regoarrar, are you in for sure or still thinking about it? If you confirm, we'll have our full roster and can get things rolling.
My one hesitation with doing it with an outside tool is it's less lurker friendly than doing it in a main thread here. I'd like the game to be very lurker friendly so that people can learn the game and then try it themselves next time. I think we can just leave it up to Sareln to decide how he wants to GM it.
Let's talk settings and I can confirm if I'm in or not. I'll definitely have a thread

What settings? My only diplomacy experience is playing the board game version 4-5 times back when I was in high school, so I'm not sure what needs to be discussed.

The only settings there are is Time (already discussed), who plays who (Random, GM picks or FFH race style), and method of playing (Up to Sareln)...
That's it right?
Edit: Oh for clarification, are Spa - Naf connected by land? The American version says no, while some Europe versions say yes. Caught me by surprise once.

For this one, I'll rank my choices:
1. Randomize pick order (randomly assign us 1-7 then pick) - just because a draft sounds fun.
2. Randomly assigned for everyone
3. Anything else
I like #1 over #2 because both #1 and #2 stink for the couple people with unlucky rolls, but at least #1 is more fun for the luckier people. I really don't care though, I'll play with anything. All other settings are fine with me.

Army or Fleet Rome for Italy? There's a longish discussion online about which is better. Or should we just leave the choice up to whoever ends up with Italy? I will be using JDIP to help me adjudicate and give you pretty pictures.
According to Mr. Sharp here SPA and NAF are not connected by land.
Quote:Armies may move between any two adjacent land spaces (note that Spain and North Africa are not adjacent, as is apparent on the American board but not on the British one, though the latter is likely to be redrawn with this error corrected). They cannot move to any sea space, but may be carried across one or more by friendly fleets. Thus an army may be convoyed from Wales to Brest by a fleet in the English Channel, or by two fleets in the Mid Atlantic and the Irish Sea. In an extreme case an army may be convoyed from Smyrna to St Petersburg - one British postal game, 1972-K ended in a two-way draw between Russia and Austria in autumn 1915, and the last Russian orders included: âA(Smy) - StP C by Austrian F(AES), Austrian F(IOS), Austrian F(TYS), Austrian F(WMS), F(MAO), F(ENG), F(NTH), F(NWG) and F(BAR).â The move had no tactical value, being more in the nature of a lap of honour, but one can understand the attraction!

I've always played no so you need a navy.

What did we decide on time then? I thought that was still open. And I want to know what method of playing we're doing. I'm not sure if I want to play if we have a human adjudicator (no offense to Sareln)
As for Spa / Naf they definitely don't connect.
And preferences, I'm okay with a draft, but the way I've played before is that everyone sets a preference list and then the powers assigned there to maximize player satisfaction. If we want to do something like that, I'll try to dig out the algorithm that we used.

FYI, I think Austria and the Central Powers are generally regarded as the hardest. Russia is also hard. For a first game, I would get a consensus ranking of faction difficulty (Put all factions into 2 bins 'harder' and 'not that bad') and then get the more experienced players to pick from the hard bin.

What's the downside to human adjudicator? Also, everyone seemed pretty ok with 48/24/24 - you were the first to mention 72 IIRC. So I think that's the consensus.

I'm open to that too.
