[SPOILERS] Vampires again... It looks like a bookstore! Alexis of the Calabim

Post Mortem:

Actually, I'm not dead yet, but there's nothing I can do to avoid it from happening in the next 2/3 turns, so I think is appropriate to start one of these.

There's nothing much to say, since I'll be elliminated (Elli-mist-minated :neenernee) by turn 30. So I haven't had the time to do many bad moves, just a bunch of them.

In all seriousness, though, I don't think I played a particularry bad game. I don't think I can say I did enough to deserve winning the game, but I certainly didn't deserve to be elliminated so early.

My two main mistakes were:

1. Following my sand box micro plan without taking in consideration what was happening in the game.

I was so focused in replicate my 2nd city in turn 32 opening, that I forgot that I had a very agressive neighboor and a lot of barbs nearby. But it wasn't so bad as it looks like. I had a hill capital and an agressive leader, so it would be hard for any rusher to conquer me (he'd need some very good combat results). I could also build more bloodpets with the insurance of my worldspell for better production. I don't know what were the forces Ellimist used to take down Bob, so I can properly say if I was able to resist them or not.

When it was needed, I sucessfuly raised a defense that estatistically should be able to protect me. Unfortunately, there's a thing called RNG...

2. Not taking the chance to attack Ellimist stack

When Elli's stack was moving to the hill forest I could tackle him with 2 50% battles against his beastmen and some very good odds against his wolves... Of course this is hindsight, but now I think I should have done it. By winning those combats I would get a good amount of xp, maybe to the point of being able to destroy the rush completely, even taking down Lucian.

I just didn't want to risk it... I thought that staying alive was more important and the right strategy to do. And like I said before, I'll say it again: this battle should have ended in a stalemate, not a decisive victory for Ellimist.

Anyway, the unusual game circumstances, with two very early elliminations leading to a 3 players game. And I said it before too, 3 players games don't work. By attacking me, Ellimist handled the game to Mist. Mist will have archery before Ellimist can do something about it and he'll be able to defend. Ellimist economy is basically non-existant. The slim chance that Ellimist has of winning this game is due to his very lucky combat odds, which made a likely 30 turns stalemate turn into a 10 turns victory.

In a 3 men game, there's two likely scenarios: a 2-against-1 and a 1-against-1 where the guy who stay peaceful is the winner. So it's not a fun scenario to play.

Well, that's about all I had to say about this game. Congrats to Mist and Ellimist and I'll keep lurking to see who wins.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

My sympathies. I know that it sucks to lose when you've played cautiously and there was still nothing you could do to survive. For my part I went warrior -> warrior to start, and I might as well have gone Herbalist first for all the good it did me. Not fun when no matter what you do you're screwed. A combination of the map (I've already vocally voiced my complaints in the lurker thread :P) and Charadon being an inherently unstable element, I suppose. For Charadon to win he needs to be able to stomp everyone quickly, but any game where he can actually do that won't be much fun for anyone else playing. I doubt we'll be seeing him in play again without a mod mod.

Thanks, bob!

You went warrior/warrior? Well, there was really nothing else for you to do then...

Though luck it is... alright
