Are you, in fact, a pregnant lady who lives in the apartment next door to Superdeath's parents? - Commodore

[Spoilers] Boldly Going...on a Bender and Pissing Off Xenu

Wanted: quick BW so you can settle for copper. All three of us are builder type players. We're going to have to fight the urge to farm it up. I want to see some early axes in the field. Quechas are nice but axes showing up out of the fog before you have your copper connected makes people piss their pants. Do you want pissy pants? Hell no, you don't! So build axes early, and help another player soil himself.

One caveat, if we meet Commodore first think carefully about it. I don't want to tangle with him too soon unless we can cripple him. He's tenacious and stubborn and just won't die. And holds a grudge forever (yeah I know, it takes one to know one). So if possible I'd prefer to gimp someone else and absorb them, like you were unable to do to me, Boldly (twin joke, too far inside? Oooh a pun!).

So recap...I don't care about the microplans, maybe I'll help to napkin plan a wonder or something but you guys can handle the details. I see my role being more to make biting remarks about the shoddy work we're doing and to snipe at the lurkers, if I don't drive them away completely. And to remind us to build moar military. And maybe to throw together a mission or two...

What's the soonest we could get a 2 move quecha into play? Anyone want to try grabbing a worker or two? hammer

For what it's worth, I don't think quechas are a completely null UU; the free C1 could come in handy after upgrading, and they can actually break skirmisher chokes with enough numbers.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Here is my initial sandbox. I was working on this while the save initially was being sent around. I'll fix it up tomorrow to reflect our area's proper orientation, but it will suffice for initial planning up until we discover BW. Xenu/Catwalk, take it for a spin and see what you can come up with, and compare to my quick sim from this afternoon. whip

I have a naming scheme in mind. I've been sitting on this one in case I ever got around to playing another game but this may be as close as I get for a little while. How about naming your cities for bad guys? I'm talking all-time ne'er do gooders. In no particular order, meet the contestants:

Iago

Voldemort

Hannibal Lecter

Morgoth (but a switch for Sauron could be tolerated I guess)

or

Cthulhu

Bonus Cthulhu live action!

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan Noonien Singh

HAL 9000
[Image: Hal-9000-eye.jpg]

Swiper - This one may need an introduction for those of you without kids. Swiper is the bad guy from Dora the Explorer and is the only reason I can tolerate watching the show with my kid. I keep hoping one day he'll keep whatever he steals instead of giving it back to Dora.

Darth Vader (As a badass, not as that brat Annie)

Hans Gruber

Maximilien Robespierre - I didn't want to go too heavy on real people, but when you're known for running The Terror, you're a bad guy.

Vlad the Impaler - All time great name, all time bad guy
[Image: c7cba5f6-f31b-4c2e-927a-7ba6549d4cef.jpg]

Ivan the Terrible - OK, enough real people
[Image: KeayIvanLL.jpg]

The Borg - Boldly assimilated!

Dr. Doom

Cobra Commander

Mr. Burns

Megatron

The Flood - All time bad guys? Probably not. But they must die!

Bill Lumbergh

Dean Wormer

Kefka - One of my personal favorites
[Image: Kefka_-_Laugh.gif]

Mr. Blonde - Trivia note: I watched Reservoir Dogs on one of the first dates with my wife. Keeper!

I vote for naming the capital Swiper myself, as it is subtle but sinister. Feel free to post your own favorite bad guys, there are a lot more to choose from out there.

It was a reference to this from Boldly:

He made me laugh with that, so it was for him.

You win. I'll name a unit after you in PB5 in honor of that.

Excellent. So after the warrior named for me in the CFC game gets hacked up by a barb axe I'll still have a unit to command. You're going to let me command it, right? (I sooooo promise not to use it to declare war on everyone you're not already fighting!*)

This is the level of support I can expect from my ded-lurker? lol I noticed you had time to post a picture for every villain ever created, but not to take a poke into the sandbox. Also, you do realize that I won't be able to use half of those city names? smoke

I do enjoy a good thread spam, but how about some input, Xenu? Otherwise, you force me to keep doing stuff like this:

Keep on wandering for a minute, boys.

Moving on flat terrain is ok for now, no barbs for a hot minute. I'll be very mindful of this in the future, however. And, in the North, SILVER!!!! jive To the south, some tundra and a desert hill. Hmm.

X = 22
Y = 22

What map script do we think this is? I don't have a clue where to find a list for that, I looked yesterday. Would be nice to know. Does this even matter for accurate sandboxing as far as tech costs? I assume that it would. I'm not looking for laser precision on everything in this game, but I would like to learn the processes so that I can become a better player.
