[Spoilers] TheWannabe Banks on Beginner's Luck

Just kidding.

The units Krill was hiding in the fog are the counter to the units I was hiding in the fog. Cue some emergency spear builds.

The worst part of this is that the warrior who's been standing on the bronze beside C.Diff since last turn won't have time to move in to the city and upgrade to a spear before Krill could hit the city with the very chariot that just took out my warrior (and flawlessly at that). Because I'm an idiot and wasted his move. I wish I could say it was a misclick that had me moving him on to the ivory then back to where he is, but really it's just that I wasn't paying enough attention to the immediate situation. I can move both the warrior and the axe back in to the city next turn, before any of Krill's chariots can hit it, but as long as he brings more than one, he will have odds to take my happy little flatland settlement as long as he hurries.

Oh, and for those of you at home not watching Krill's thread: his power is still spiking:

This could go badly.

No chariots visible yet. And in that heartbeat, I've gone from panic to utter abandon.

I know I'm far from a contender in this game, based on skill alone, so the only chance I have to stay in it is to take risks. Which is what I did this turn. If Krill's planning to wipe me off the map, I don't think I can stop him, but if he was just taking an opportunity to knock me down one warrior and flex his military muscle to facilitate expansion towards me, I don't want to let that slow down my other plans.

If there is a chariot sneaking awkwardly in the fog 2N of my settler, so be it. Once the city's planted, I can at least upgrade that warrior to a spear or axe as needed, and reinforce from home while it scrambles towards relative defensive self sufficiency.

T64 update. I played for you since there was less than 10 minutes on the clock.

1-pop whipped the worker in E.Coli, since it was an exact 1-pop whip and you only have 4 workers right now and you're behind on improvements. I had the two workers on the horse go to the wheat to finish that, and had S.Aureus take that instead of the clam as that will grow it to size 2 in 2 turns. Memphis is working the pig and the horse. Worker near C.Diff finished the plains cow so that city is now working all nice tiles.

I didn't play T65. Good luck!

Played for you again, as there was only 20 minutes left on the clock... did fairly obvious things with the workers, didn't whip at all. A new plant by HAK in the SW looked like it pushed your spear out of borders, but I didn't wardec because I didn't feel comfortable with doing that as a replacement even though you said earlier you were thinking of attacking HAK. Your axe wasn't in position to move in as well until this turn anyways.

Playing quickly because there's 15 minutes on the clock after I played through Donovan's instructions for his turn, and there's no instructions here....As a suggestion, if you're going to keep missing turns you should probably try to get a teammate to cover, or at a bare minimum post some plans so we don't have to make spoiled decisions. If you keep it up the other players are likely to call for you to be replaced.

No idea what the NW scout was up to. Moved him back toward your territory to fog bust.

Changed tiles in Cholera off the floodplains and onto the gems mine. The gems mine is better and you can regrow the turn after you whip anyway at 24/24 food once the city is down to size 2. I assume you'd want to whip the granary when possible, in the meantime more commerce is better. I moved the spear back into the city for now, for lack of anything better to do with it. It can build fortify bonus, I suppose. If it's supposed to be going to guard one of the sites for the settlers you're building, you'll need to say where.

By C. Diff I moved both workers onto the hill tile 1W of the city, looks like they can build a road there next turn. The cottage is already finished and with the peace treaty with Krill expiring in 2 turns you don't have time to safely improve any of the other hills up there right now now, if war breaks out again. No idea if it will or not, I don't know Krill's plans. If war does break out, you'll want more mobility around your cities, and roads are your friend there. I left the axe and spear on that tile to guard the two workers.

In the south I moved the axe 1W onto the hill you had previously marked for a city. You'll need to revise your dotmap as HAK's city invalidates Trachomatis and Gonorrhea. Wasn't sure what to do with the spear that finished in Aureus, so I sent him west to help support your axe. Hopefully it won't look aggressive to HAK but if he has chariots (no idea if he does), your axe is dead meat if HAK wants to whack it.

Um...the settler that finished from E. Coli....no idea where it's supposed to be going. The nearest city spot marked is Burgdorferi so I sent it that way. I moved the nearby axe onto the proposed city tile to get a look around, looks clear for now. The two workers nearby will start improving the cow so the city will have a good tile to work when it's founded. I moved another worker to the tile 1SE of the new city so it can start chopping whatever you want to build first. I assume a granary but it's up to you. I chop/cancelled the worker 1S of Cholera, it was that or build a road. Chop seems better.

No time for pictures of all the cities, the clock is under 2 minutes to rolling....

End of turn, Mathematics came in. Need to pick a new tech. You already have 25 beakers into Archery, making it a 1 turn tech so why not.

The settler in C. Diff finished, I queued up a war chariot, as I'm not sure why you don't have any yet. No hammers invested, so feel free to change it.

Logged out without changing anything else.

I'm kicking myself for not getting that easy raze on HAK's city Turley, but we carry on. Probably for the better - I think HAK and Mindy are still playing together, and that's not a combo I want to get in a fight with. He recently offered a food-for-food trade, which I trust means he isn't planning to wage bloody war on me just yet.
Good, I'll keep building cities.
And soldiers.
And workers.
So I can build some cottages.

I don't really have a long-term strategy right now, aside from not looking too tasty and figuring out how to get initiative in the inevitable war with my neighbours.
In terms of tactics, I said it all above: workers because I'm behind on improvements, particularly cottages. Settlers to grab the last few viable sites. Soldiers in cities that need to grow. Growing as wide as I can will push my slider down, but if I'm on my way to cheap markets, that's almost synergy, right?

T81
-moved Axe+spear E-SE of Turley, moved newly built settler 1SW, with intention to settle at marked tile 'C. Trachomatis'
-chopped with 2 workers in core
-northern settler moved to M. Leprae tile with spear covering. That leaves the worker open to attack from a HAK chariot, so I covered it with a War Chariot and set it to road. Debated on whether to move the second worker there too but it would mean 25% chance of a chariot vs war chariot victory (4str vs 5) and you losing two workers. So I put 1t mine on its current tile and you can decide what to do with it next turn, since you have an archer that can move to cover the workers next turn.

-Not sure what you wanted to do with scout, so I moved it 1NE

What's going on, TheWannabe? Do we need to find a sub for you for your games?

Huh? No, I'm doing great. Had a big exam yesterday, and was apparently too brain-fried afterwards to remember to play, but I'm back on track now: already played this turn here, and have spent half my day simming out my opener for PB30. Shouldn't have any significant interruptions for at least the next couple of weeks.
