Niall wracks his brain for any recollection of having heard tell of caverns along the seashore near his home.
Niall can't recall anything specific; there are a few caves here or there undoubtedly but none known nearby according to sailors or travelers; the villagers tend to shun the bluffs.

After Robern had secured the rope ladder, Lucas gave it a good tug to make sure he was happy with how it was fixed before taking hold of Mabel and heading back towards the platform with the others
I guess we will have to leave mabel tied up here rather than take her down with the rest of us. Does anybody know the workings of mechanical items such as these enough to know if we are safe all going down at once?
Given the balance of the platform and the inertia of the stiff ropes and huge pulleys, Niall is pretty sure they can lower slowly it without much trouble.
