I hope everyone's land is as barren as ours.

Not one but TWO!
I wish I could say the same for food: Some deer in a tundra patch far from us. I thought about going to the NW onto the hill, but I figured that the area north of the sheep was more pressing knowledge for nailing down our upcoming plans. I'm sure it will be barren and we will need to get off this north tundra island.

Why did we agree to a barely edited map again? Oh, and by “we” I really mean everybody else. The map settings were decided before I joined, so I fully reserve my right to complain.
It looks like we will need to research Sailing and start establishing island colonies as some of our initial cities after all. Even if we get lucky and find food for a third city in the north (I approve of scouting it right away), where does our fourth city go? We will need more of a core base, a military, and a work force before we can go charging off to the west. I will try a few simulations to plan this weekend when I have more time, and the north should be mostly revealed by then too. Last note: I suggest naming the scout “Wolfeater” in honor of his battle prowess and the fact that our civilization will apparently be using wolves as its main food source.

No luck for us. The third city is going overseas somewhere for sure. I agree with building the workboat as a scout. The actual scout should probably be sent to reveal the fog by the deer, then head west as long as he can stay alive. As for the second city, what do you think of maybe shifting its location one tile northwest? It would still be on freshwater and have first ring sheep, but it would grab a few more grasslands and forests that otherwise probably won’t be made use of for a long time, if ever, due to lack of other food. It also makes room for a slightly better little crab city to the west of the capital as well. It would require an escort unit to found, though, either the scout staying behind or a warrior from the capital, and it shares less tiles with the capital.
