"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

We need 7 words:
1 Fainting = PASS
3 Time = DATE, ROUND, PIANO?
3 Animal
TURKEY = obvs
MOUSE = obvs
BILL = Bird's beak
I think these are our seven words. Less certain about piano, but it seems most logical, unless Superdeath is a fan of Jim Croce and knows the song Time in a BOTTLE.
I think PASS>TURKEY>MOUSE>DATE>BILL>ROUND>PIANO
“The wind went mute and the trees in the forest stood still. It was time for the last tale.”
The last word is going to be tough, but let's do the best we can.
Animal has to be at least TURKEY and MOUSE.
Fainting has one word left, which should be PASS.
Time has three words left, so perhaps DATE, BILL (I had missed the billable hours connection last round), PIANO (keep time, ragtime, tempo)?
That leaves one word unaccounted here, and it's tricky. Assuming no overlap between Fainting/Time in PASS, then we're looking at a third Animal word, but I'm drawing a blank. I don't love any of these candidates, but:
- Some CHOCOLATEs are shaped like Animals, like an Easter Bunny or chocolate fish
- A SOLDIER might panic and act on ANIMAL instincts in combat
- Animals can be identified by their distinct SOUNDs
Sorry for the delay. Azoth should also have a chance to weigh in, but let’s get some info based on the words we’re most confident in, as we’re pretty sunk if any of these are wrong:
Point to Pass
Point to Turkey
Point to Mouse
Point to Date
I would have started with the same four words, and I think we now have two words per clue:
Fainting 3: SPELL, DISEASE
Final word: BATTERY as in assault?
(I think PASS is more likely to be a Time word.)
Time 3: DATE, PASS
Final word: ROUND as in the sun/hands on a clock going round?
(Not a fan of PIANO, the clue would have been Timing, if not an outright musical reference.
Out of the musical words BELL/PIANO/ROUND, BELL was the most likely, and it turned up blue, so superdeath probably wasn't thinking along those lines.)
Animal 3: TURKEY, MOUSE
Final word: My first thought was SOLDIER, both because soldier = human = animal, and soldiers might act like animals in the heat of battle.
Probably most confident in SOLDIER, though not very confident in general.
BILL fits in either the time or animal category because you can BILL for your time or a bird BILL. SOLDIER feels like a reach to me. SOUND is a possibility for animal too
I'm pretty confident in ROUND being a time word. A round of boxing is 3 minutes.
I think PASS is the 3rd fainting word, meaning 2 time words and 1 animal word left. I could get behind SOUND for animal, ROUND for time and BILL/PIANO for the last time word.
