Anya's eyes are quite comfortable with the decreasing light : she tries to spot the group who's horse they can hear.

Lucas studies the tracks to determine where the man traveled, hoping to close this investigation out before giving up and going to the others
We just want to speak to you!calls out Lucas Lucas can't determine which way the watcher went; whoever it was was clearly a phenomenal woodsman. He gets a prickle on the back of his neck after his shout though. No response is forthcoming. In fact, the late afternoon seems unusually quiet...

Please! calls Lucas again, then if no response or reaction is forthcoming he hurries over across tot he rest of the group, annoyed his tracking skills are not up to scratch
While Niall busies himself with preparation for descent, Anya stills and lets he keen (half)elf ears take in details. The sounds seem to be coming from a single horse, in distress; they are also coming from a single place, the animal doesn't seem to be moving.

"I'm not certain that this sound comes from the group we're chasing. I can only hear one horse, not three."
'Good point. Perhaps one of their horses was injured and they had to abandon it. In that case, we should keep on for the ridge. This should slow their progress, at least.'
It can't slow us down all that much to check, can it? I'd hate to pass by and find out later that the foes had been here all along.
Besides, if they left a horse, they probably left something else. If they could have carried everything, they wouldn't have bothered with horses in the first place. Unlikely to be valuables, but maybe we can find a hint as to where they are going, or from.
