Yeah, I can't really share uberfish's enthusiasm about our team being underrated. My rating is rather too high, since some of my opponents insist on playing without database access and lose the game in the opening.
BTW, where is waterbat? Once he signs up, the match will start. I just hope he doesn't take too long or somebody else will ninja his spot AGAIN.

Hm, now the other team admin pointed out that waterbat was last online @ chess.com August 28th and asked us to cancel the match if he doesn't play or we don't find a substitute.
Waterbat's last login to RB was 5 days ago on the 10th. Does anyone know if he will show up tomorrow? Unless there is some very important real life stuff going on I would really appreciate it if anybody who signed up for a team match could check the forum regularly.
In case he isn't available would anyone else be interested in playing?
If we are still one man short tomorrow evening (CET) I will cancel the match.

by the way ... have a game in the current(!?) 24'th Chess.com Tourney that i'm rather proud of (currently at 5/0/1 out of 10 ... my only loss was to the currently second best in the group and i won the other game against him) ... i effectively dangles a trapped rook in move 13, knowing full well that as soon as my opponent jumps it, i have a deadly attack ... and after some shuffeling around he takes it, followed by me getting a quick mate :D

I stole Waterbat's spot again. Because I didn't want to play I won't be as hardcore.

You can play any way you want, the main thing is we have enough players.

Black takes the bait with 16 ... Qxa1. White then gets checkmate by
17. Nc7+ Kd7
18. e6+ Kd8
19. Qd6+ Kc8
20. Nxd5, and Black resigns because Qc7# is unstoppable.
But I'm not convinced Black's king couldn't escape through f8 to g8. The key move is e6+ which gains a tempo, simultaneously giving check while opening the way for the queen. If Black keeps the king on the back row, White doesn't have such a multipurpose move and the queen doesn't get in. (But at worst, White plays Nxa8 equalizing the dangled rook.)

If 17...Kf8
18. fxg6+ and black is toast. (18...Kg8 is of course mate after 19. Qf7# and 18.Ke7 doesn't end well after 19. Qf7+either)

Duh, discovered check from the queen. You're right, of course.
But what about ...Kd8? That leaves no way for the queen to get in with a check (Qd4+ loses the queen, Qh4+ loses the knight.) White can continue checking with Nc6+ but then Ke8 and we're back where we started. Does Nc7+ really work at all, or only because Black blundered with Kd7 allowing the pawn check?
Qa4+ might have potential but I'm not following all the potential lines to checkmate...?

If Nc7+ Kd8, e6 wins, black has no good way to stop Qd6+ followed by Nxd5
