Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

Isn't there a story thread somewhere? I'm guessing there is a limit to the number of characters you can put any single post...

And, IMO, War and Peace is being reasonable. There are any number of books that would be far, far more offensive to receive. wink Just saying.

Agree with kalin, just because a game doesn't go your way doesn't mean you should act like an ass about it and no "they did it first!" is not a valid reason.

The game not going your way because you're getting beaten by players acting in self-interest is one thing. The game not going your way because several teams got smoked and had to pool together to take down the leader in a dogpile is another, and fair enough. The game not going your way because still other team(s) pile on when you're no longer able to win for no apparent gain to themselves is another thing entirely, and this is utter bullshit however you slice it.

I don't think of this as being "an ass", and I will assume you're not calling anyone in particular that. I think that this is trying to get whatever fun is remaining out of this shitbag game, given how well the team performed and how thoroughly it has been undermined through diplomacy, or whatever you want to term the out of game decision-maing model our opponents are utilizing. I would like to think that "diplomacy" would result in players making rational, self-interested decisions, not walking a stack of units across the goddamned board to attack a team that has already been eliminated from obtaining any victory condition.

This attack seems like something other than diplomacy. Scooter tried his best, and he did a good job representing our team, putting out fair offers, and seeking out circumstances of mutually beneficial actions for both RB and CivFtards. They never responded. Why is this? Did they set up a game-long alliance on T0 with someone else? Did that agreement mean that they'd just play for second place? Nothing else makes this attack make any sense. So, no, I don't feel bad being rude. It's all the retribution that we have left. I'm done with this now, so whatever.

And the dogpile is complete:

So it's RB against the world.

I expected WPC to break the NAP much earlier, when there was still some German lands to be had.

Nevermind CivFr's weird tactics or CFC twisting the words of an agreement. WPC is in full breach of a NAP.

Feel free to pile your diplomatic vile onto them instead of CivFr.

At this point, does any diplo even matter in the slightest? Nothing we say is going to benefit us in any way, nor can it harm our opponents, so what's the point in saying anything to them?

CFC is most likely going to win, and (almost) every other team seems to prefer that outcome. We were beaten through diplomacy and espionage, but outplayed everyone else on every other metric. Sometimes that's just how it is, and poor sportsmanship from them doesn't mean that we should feel free to do the same.

I agree with this! Also, it should be noted that even though RB outplayed the other teams in terms of micro and play skill, the game was not only about that.
