Update time.

I'm gradually recovering from Christmas season and, hopefully, will return to a previous regular update schedule. Now, I think, it is time to make a quick recap of how the war with Krill goes from my perspective.

A little bit of history. Krill during his last days was extremely aggresive. He settled cities at spots "Outpost 1" and "Outpost 2" while swinging his Great Artist in my face. After settling Outpost 2 he made at trollastic offer of white peace to me. Of course, I rejected: culture bomb in Outpost 2 would completely trash Dalstroy and Anadyr.

To respond to this I had to move my 1-mover stack which was busy besieging Jerry Reed towards this front. Also, I attacked Outpost 2 and in a big exchange killed 10 HAs and 2 Axes while losing 11 HAs of my own. It did the job: German Joey / Krill retreated back to Trevelyan and offered my white peace yet again.

I would accept if they didn't have this Great Artist. Culture bomb in Trevelyan is less terrible than in Outpost 2 but still absolutely unacceptable. So, I rejected peace yet again and pressed forward.

It appears that boak now has taken over this civ. He has 14 HAs, 5 spears, 2 archers, a chariot and a super-medic warrior defending in Trevelyan. In 2 turns I'll be able to attack with 30 HAs, 4 catapults, 4 WEs, 5 Swords, 4 Axes, 3 Spears, 3 Chariots (including super-medic) and a skirmisher. This is an impressive 54 units total against 23, most of which don't take defensive bonuses. The city should fall unless he has another stack in the fog.

This, however, seems unlikely. If they had a lot of reinforcements incoming, they would have been more aggressive before during the battle for Outpost 2. Curiously, they haven't reinforced this stack at all since this battle. I have a feeling that they experience pressure at some other place and have a more urgent demand for their units. This conclusion is further confirmed by the fact that on previous turn GJ switched out of Caste System and slaved a lot of pop. Before Krill was insistant on staying in Caste even though it prevented him from keeping up with me in power. I think that they are growing another GP for a golden age, so slavery switch before this GP was finished represents a serious policy change. Another interesting news is that HAK sent me Iron for Iron a turn earlier. May be they noticed his preparations and are reacting to them.

Barring reinforcements, what else can Boak do to safe Trevelyan? He whipped something this turn; worst case scenario is walls but this is still OK; most of his defenders won't benefit from it. Also, walls can make spears preferred defenders over HAs against swords which is actually a good thing. Also, he can upgrade archers to CKNs. It still won't save the city but would make him delay Engineering.

What can be my strategy after Trevelyan? If HAK joins in, most likely I'll press further towards Chesterton. In ideal world this area should be occupied by HAK, completely cutting Boak from me. However, I don't believe that I'll be able to take this city withouy HAK's help. If HAK chooses to remain peaceful, I will most likely be satisfied by Trevelyan as a buffer. Culture bomb in Chesterton is unpleasant but still acceptable.

Also, in a few turns I will have a city at the spot "filler city" which will solidify me eastern border. And I'm building up a secondary stack to finish Tsargon at last: WEs, HAs, Catapults and even Longbows to cover from spears.

This war is super-expensive.

Btw, it appears that Boak has switched to break-even research, conviniently showing us that he has 9 turns towards Engineering.

A very brief report: Boak evacuated Trevelyan, leaving only two spears there. I had an option to take it immediately by burning 2-4 HAs but decided that time isn't critical; next turn I will have a good chance to take the city without losses at all.

Also, HAK signalled me with gold that he'll be ready to attack in 10 turns. That's pretty slow; most probably means that I'm not pressing further east right now. Nevertheless, I signalled back understanding and in 10 turns will be ready to assist.

I took the city (no losses) and decided to keep it. Bacchus argued against this decision because he thinks that defending it will tie up too many units. I had my own reservations: I would prefer to move the city 1NE to free up a city spot on a desert hill 1SW from the lake. What pushed me to keeping the city anyway was a combination of long-term and short-term considerations. Short-term the city allows to establish a powerful forward base really quickly and to save a settler - not insignificant consideration given how strained my production capabilities are. Long-term, I think that HAK is rapidly moving into irrelevance and controlling this area will be important in forthcoming battle for his land (as it allows to put a pressure on Chesterton).

In other news, boak started a golden age. I suspect that he used the Great Artist for this, though it isn't certain. I considered offering him peace but decided against it. Don't see what I can really gain from this.

After I finished moving units, the frontline looked liked this:

My army is currently split into three stacks. One (pinned) is standing in former Trevelyan (Chukotsky ITL now). Its mission is to stop boak from putting any cities to the north or west of Chesterton. Another stack (selected) is moving towards Jerry Reed from north-east. And yet another is forming around Dalstroy and will be ready to move out towards Jerry Reed next turn. This stack includes 6 WEs, 2 Longbows, 3 Catapults and some HAs.

One may feel perlpexed by the fact that atheistic Communist state relies on religion so much. I should remind you, however, that inseparable connection between Jews and Communism was a recurring theme of Nazi propaganda during WW2. They knew!

As our offensive against boak has come to stop, Jerry Reed has become a new focus. In addition to units already shown, I have 6 WEs, 2 Longbows, 4 HAs and 3 Cats moving from the north-west. The plan is to bombard down defenses next turn and attack turn after next.

boak is destroying roads between Chukotskiy ITL and Chesterton. He offered me peace but I declined. I think if I give him 10 turns of peace, he would attack HAK and I don't want that.

Observe defenses in Apatite. Barteq has Engineering now. Probably it means that attack against him should be delayed until after gunpowder.

As you can see my building queue is almost completely demilitarized: I'm preparing for knights and don't want to build units which will become obsolete in a few turns. I can probably lose (temporarily) my top power position pretty soon. Speaking of which...

Demos are depressing. I have some potential of growth in my newly captured lands but I'm not sure if it will be enough to catch up with the leaders.

Golden age in 9 turns. Guilds are in 6 or 7 turns.

OK, why mackoti is posting in lurker thread? Does that mean that he decided to abandon this game?

Taotao's playing alone now.

Btw, boak offered me a Peace treaty with one gold on top of it. I think, this is his way to signal me that he is ready to pay for peace and he wants me to state my terms. I think, next time he'll be saving gold, I will offer him some absurd terms of peace like 50 gpt.
Also, Jerry Reed should fall this turn. Stay tuned!
