[SPOILERS] Catherine of China

Just a little update for those impatient for WAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!

With the re-adjustment of our borders. We are looking at several methods to attack WK which will include some sequence of the following:

1) Workers road to the tile 1SW of his capitol and we put axes and spears to hold it. We can then see his capitol and his SoD composition provided he doesn't move a unit onto the hill this turn.

2) We have around 8+ HAs gathering around TYVM, we can safely 1-move Corinth and take it out if it is not reinforced. We can then follow up by attacking into his colonies in the NE.

3) The Silver City, we can attack this site and take it before moving north and threatening Athens from the south.

4) We have a galley we can load with units to drop in his backyard cities.

No defenders on the deer tile so I decide to build a road and send 1 unit there. I got visibility to 10 Horse Archers close by and 2*Phalanx+archer+spear in Athens and move 3 more units in because he doesn't have cats.

It seems we're the lousy neighbour that makes everyone want to move out frown.

I'm a bit disappointed. I offered a way out of time consuming tactical warfare, but it was WarriorKnights decision to decline it. I could restart peace talk, but now I've invested too much to war so I need to gain something out of it and that something might break the balance of the game. It would probably mean very long peace against city or 2. That would cribble Greece permanently and definately make the game drag for him. I hope he continues to play the war he started or we can find a sub.

I'd be willing to do peace for the majority of his military force and a long NAP. Maybe... maybe tongue

1st real battles. WK attacked against my worker escort. Casualties 1*HA for me and 2*HA for him.

I pillage the deer tile. I was planning to position my HAs to attack Corinth next turn, but that HA stack is too tempting target so I need to try to take it out.

Unpromoted HAs go 1st with ~30% odds. 1st dies and 2nd gets a kill +5 experience. All the rest of the battles are won. Pretty favourable results.

Situation after the battles. We got also GG out of the fights

Quiet turn. 1st Catapult is in position. Corinth got walls. 1 turn attack is extremely expensive there. I'll check the southern city next turn and depending what I see I might try to capture it.

edit. I used GG to make healer that also got +1 movement. Especially useful feature e.g. to pillage tiles in the border area.

I didn't expect that to go so well. Excellent call, can't believe we lost so little *thumbs up*.

At this point, I think it might be best to just go after Athens. We managed to destroy most of his SoD around Athens so he'll have to either pull units from his other cities leaving them weaker for us to take or we'll just bombard it down and take it with our superior production. Win Win.

WK made a big mistake attacking out with his 7 Horse Archers. Alive combined with the other 3 they would pose a significant threat to our cats or frontline cities. Now the remaining HAs are pretty irrelevant. There aren't enough to try to do real damage.

I also think hitting Athens is probably best. The southern city can wait at this point. Only if he pretty much abandons the cities we should consider something else.

I had a chat with Adlain and he seems to be our closest friend in this game and Locke seems to be biggest snake. Seemingly friendly put sneaky behind the scenes. Our "ally" Lord Parkin also didn't bother to inform us about this. At least he didn't support it too heavily although wasn't talking against it either.

Hey there.

This email going to all teams in game except plako. This is gonna sound kinda weird but hear me out. We are all losing to plako. Some doing better than others but all losing. You all see his GNP graph spikes. He has 14 cities and most food and most production and most GNP. If we do nothing he just outtech us and eventually kill us. WarriorKnight first and then the rest of us. That is bad result.

So what do we do? Most teams are way far away cant go to war. Also I think war coalition has been tried in other games and it doesnt work well. Because someone doesnt send units and then they get ahead while everyone else fighting. But there is something else we can do. plako has Currency tech. He is running economy off foreign trade routes in 14 cities. That is 28 trade routes to other civs. If we all CLOSE BORDERS with plako, he lose all them at once and economy crashes. It is a lot of income will hurt him a lot. So I want ask everyone to join together and close borders together with plako. Has to be everyone though. This will not work if only some of us do it. It is in eveyones interest to close borders with him. Even if you are friends with plako. We need to present united front. This is peaceful boycott as a group.

Some of us have units in plako borders. We do right now. So if we do this it should be together on turn 110. Give time for units to move through plako borders.

So tell me what you think. I think it is best way for us to slow down runaway. It is easy and you dont have to do anything. Just click to cancel OB. If we all do it together plako cant get mad at any one team. You will still have plenty of foreign trade routes OB from other civs. We need EVERYONE in on this. Lets do this. :D

Locke

PS Please dont say anything to plako. Even if you are friends theres no reason to help him win easier.

Thanks for your thoughts, Locke, we'll take it into consideration.
It would help a lot if others would share their thoughts, though...

Cheers,
Nakor

I'm torn. On the one hand, plako's putting up some very scary demographics right now, so the logic of this makes sense. But on the other hand, I do feel bad about punishing someone just for playing well, when he's never really done anything bad to me.

I'm not wild about it, but if everyone else wants to do this, I'll go along with it.

Well, the two most important things to realize is that no matter what way you put it, there is no prize for second place in civilization, and currently plako is the runaway leader. Therefore if the rest of us want to have a shot at this game, we need to slowdown/stop plako somehow. True plako may not have given all of us a reason to do so, but the truth is, he has by being the person closest to the finish line.

If anyone is concerned about losing trade routes, I would be happy sign OB with any and all of you to make up for it. I would highly encourage everyone to go through with this, as it's probably the only thing we can do to give all of us a chance to catch up.

Hey all,

I can see the value in this, but there's been little response since the initial mail was sent. If we're going to do this, it needs to be agreed to and done by all of us. Even a single Civ keeping their borders open renders the effort pointless.

Yea come on guys. We are pretty good friends with plako and he seems like good guy. But this is game and you have to try to win. Do you want to sit and wait for plako to beat you? Feels like some people are just going through motions right now. Game is boring. This will make it more interesting. :D

regoarrarr, Nakor, luddite, WarriorKnight, and Moogle have at least responded. Where are rest of you? Still waiting on Adlain and Parkin and mackoti. I even talk about this with Parkin earlier and he thought it was good idea. If you are reading this then send email and let us know what you think.

We are not asking you to attack plako. Just close borders. It takes one click on diplo screen. Help out WarriorKnight before plako attacks him LOL.

Ok, my thought is this: are the consiquences worth the potential Gains - and in my mind the answer is no.

Plako has played a solid game so far if his demographs are to be beleived yes but:

is is position insermountable - no
Are there others near him in demographs: Yes
there are 1 of not 2 Civs that, if Plako get a knobling blow will, in my mind, Take up his position quite easly and i dont, at this time, see any need for this type of action this early in the game.

The basic plan does seem like a good one, though I can understand why some may have reservations about it.

The fact is simply that the nature of this plan does require everyone to first agree in order for it to have any effect on Plako. If not all of us are willing to boycott him by closing borders simultaneously, then those who do close borders are not going to have much (if any) effect on him.

Basically, there's not much point in only partly or half-heartedly going through with a plan like this - we do need a firm decision either way.

So what is it going to be? Are we gonna do this? I try to convince teams. Not getting much enthusiasm. mackoti never respond, Adlain not interested. Are you watching plako Demos? He is building large army now. Will soon overtake luddite in power. He is probably going to attak WarriorKnight soon. He slowly pull away with game while everyone sit around doing nothing.

I'm at least trying to do something. Maybe it will not work but it better than doing nothing. Its in no one interest to trade with runaway civ. Simple idea. Why some of you resisting I dont know.

Time to do something is now before team gets too far ahead. I ask for last time on this to boycott plako. It is pointless if only some teams close borders. Need everyone to make it work.
