KoP's Screenies & Random Rambling

Kinda off-topic to this thread except maybe for the reminiscing: I recently found a nice YouTube playlist from Coooley about the history of Diablo 2 which made me realize how much I have missed after I stopped playing way back when. Some really weird stuff like fused uniques, hybrid runewords, that weird bone wall/meteor glitch, skipping Baal waves... as a reverse engineer and low-level systems programmer, I really love these things!

Ditto. That was a large part of the fun, getting into the game mechanics. Miss the days when we had 4-5 RB games going most time with our own channel and bot on bnet....

I Found The Lost City

Maybe just that no one bothered to look...

PS:

I am still scratching my head on how requiring the completion of Khalim's Will will entice players to play Act3 more.
*  "Normal" people will play through all the questing area anyway.
*  MFers might farm a couple of lvl85 areas in Hell Diff, if the area is easy to get to and to farm.
*  Your "Average" person, especially now some area are up'd to lvl 85, finds it even more difficult and wants to skip it more than ever before.
*  Your "Average" person who get rushes don't do more questing through Act3. The Rusher does the work, just as they do in act 2.

Such developers logic who claim they play the game too... banghead

Good point, yeah, who actually wants that Khalim's Will requirement? Questers will do it anyway and rushers won't ever care. It's not even part of any story line like the Summoner or Ancients.

WORD

So with V2.4 dropping in a couple of days, and New Ladder beginning 2 weeks after that, I am scrambling to tally up my runes and decide what I want to make before the deadline.

It looks like I can make 2 runewords before I am bankrupted. Since I can't causally put a Grief in each hand of my Barb Merc (never mind the rest and my own gear) I have to decide on something that are more general purpose, as non class/build specific as possible.

Runes I have as of today. Cubing rune from Pul and up gives me Lo, Ohm, Vex, Gul and Ist.
[Image: RUNES%20Screenshot119-X3.jpg]

I think a Grief would be a good choice as multi purpose goes. A lot of builds can benefit from it. HotBowBabe might even give that a try when she gear up for melee.

So that left me runes good for a Call To Arms. I don't know about CTA. 1-6 BO and 1-4 BC! The variables are too high for a poor guy to gamble on.

Will probably look for something else. Any suggestions?

One 2.4 runeword of interest is Flickering Flame. Can be a fun hat for many fire based builds.
Level 4-8 Resist Fire Aura When Equipped (varies)
+3 To Fire Skills
-10-15% to Enemy Fire Resistance (varies)
+30% Enhanced Defense
+30 Defense Vs. Missile
+50-75 To Mana (varies)
Half Freeze Duration
+5% To Maximum Fire Resist
Poison Length Reduced by 50%

Many helpful or irrelevant properties depending on the build. And that makes it interesting. For starters, it faces stiff competitions as a hat when one can have many +skills, and then there's your Shako and other set/unique head gear. But I like this Flickering Flame because it's interesting what one comes up with.

Any suggestion what I should make before Ladder begins? What are you looking forward to in V2.4?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Just keeping a running total myself - Apr 9
Pul = 4 Um
Um  = 4 Mal    1 Um
Mal = 4 Ist      1 Mal
Ist = 2 Gu       2 Ist
Gul = 3 Vex
Vex = 1 Ohm    2 Vex
Ohm = 1 Lo      1 Ohm
-                      1 Lo
Potentially 2 Lo

Apr 12
9 Pul = 4 UM       1 Pul
8 Um = 4 Mal
8 Mal = 4 Ist
7 Ist = 3 Gul        1  Ist
6 Gul = 3 Vex
3 Vex = 1 Ohm    1 Vex
1 Ohm                     1 Ohm
2 Lo =                2 Lo

Call To Arms anyway. People way overreact to the variables. Any Battle Orders is good Battle Orders. Also note you can buff it with +all skills to always get a decent level from it. (Not +barb skills or +class skills, only +all skills like Spirit works, including its own Battle Command.)

I get what you are saying. Its variation of 5 levels is some difference but not a huge deal (with/out +skills) due to diminishing returns. Really, just 15% difference from worse to best. It is more in the head. I mean if I can only afford to ever make one (true so far) and it rolled low, it will pain me to look at it.

The main reason, tho, is how everyone plays a different game, and to me having a buff to hp and mana is nice but really not my style / priority (especially at that price). Hence, you see even my naked toons try not to use any stat points.

Sure I will make a few if it's cheap like Spirit smile I just think a poor man can get better uses out of those runes.

yeah, this many games for many folks makes diablo look more like a playground or toy more than just a game.

Unfortunately, Blizzard is apparently only interested in one game, that of the character editor users, mindless farmers, and item sellers. i.e. the casual grief circle.
