Wow. Yet another multi-turn day. 9 turns since Saturday morning. Wow. Okay, so let's start off with a couple of pictures showing the latest developments in the exploration department, starting with the north where I'm getting really curious where this leads:
And the south, starting to look like a dead end (but giving me an idea of my place in the world):
Notice the ice
Next up, a dotmap. Then I have to re-configure my micro plan based on the (in?)convenient copper placement.

Right then. Let's start off with a dotmap of the south.
Blue is my #1 city site. As if a quick GS and huge commerce potential wasn't enough, it has copper. This city will be settled ASAP. Black is city #4 thanks to the ivory. It will use corn and cow from Paris to get rolling. In the long run, it won't be the greatest city but it will contribute to the empire in the short term. Green secures two strategic resources, so will probably have to be settled sooner than I want. And red won't be a slouch of a city. I'll probably leave the cows for a more southern city. And the north...
Blue here is for reference, the same as in the south and city #2. Red is where I have (for now) decided to settle the gold. It will be city #3, settled around T30. And white will be a nice city with pigs and wine.
So that's that. What do you think? What should I move?

Newest micro plan. Includes fish/copper city 1N of where I originally planned. The extra production changes things around. It slows down GS time by 2 turns but will allow growth there more quickly. In the coming days I'll play around a bit and see if I can get the GS any sooner, but T53 for a GS is not bad for a first draft.

Yet another pre-work turn played. Everything went according to plan... nothing to report and no screenshots until tonight...

Not too much to say, but after a day and a half of technical difficulties, we're back up and rolling. T21 played, and the scores have jumped to show land. And it looks like there are only 2 capitals that are at size 4, and one of the capitals is size two!
Here are the latest screenshots of those funny bits of land. Looks like the northern bit leads to the promised land:
Probably good for 2 or three cities there, unless that land is "someone else's". I hope it's mine, as I wouldn't mind a source of banana, sugar, and gems. It is looking like it was an okay decision to send that warrior exploring east. And.. in the south:
Deer plus silver? Not bad for a later city. This map is certainly not weak for resources.

In actual turn news, fishing researched finished this turn, moved on to hunting. A 4th warrior was completed. That warrior will be a settler escort, and is on his way right now. And Paris started working on a settler. Let the expansion phase begin!

Turn came and played. Not much to say, really.
On the homefront it's a buildup to the settling of Orleans. --- I really do need a new naming convention for my cities. I settled for a plain jane "thing XX" for my workers but want something more fun for the cities. We'll see about that.
In expedition news, my southern warrior revealed crabs off the shore of silver-land. That area seems very far away right now but it will make a good city with 2 food resources and 2 happy resources. Probably will just work those four tiles plus specialists, but that city alone could give me reason to switch back and forth into caste system someday.
Probably no screenshot for this turn since it's such minor changes. BUT... in two turns my northern warrior will get to the hills north of the golden corn. That will be good information to have as it will allow me to start finalizing my plans for cities 3 and 4, which I'm still planning to be NE gold and SE ivory in that order.

Mini-turn report: exploration continues, settler complete at EOT. More later, now it's time to play with my daughter

It begins:
Quote:Hey Mr. Nice Guy (MNG acceptable to you?),
Just dropping a line as we've just made in-game contact. You'll see my scout upon opening your save, he's just come up from the south. How are you doing? I recall you saying at the beginning you preferred not to make things too diplomatically intensive, so I'll try to restrain my normally verbose ramblings a bit.
First off, scouting/map situation. My scout came in from a 1-tile wide land bridge that connects my home island to yours. I noted in the beginning of my thread that I prefer to avoid NAPs that lock players into long-term peace with runaways, but I can assure you that there's no conflict on my horizons for quite some time. I'd be willing to make a settling agreement for the near (meaning 'till ~t100 at least) term, I don't settle north of the "base" of the land bridge and you don't settle south of it. None of this is critical to get decided on soon, by the way, just some initial thoughts. I'm happy to discuss other trades/agreements/etc as they come up.
Finally, have you made contact with anyone else in-game yet? Sorry to go the twenty-questions route, but you're the first I've bumped into and I was wondering how far away most people were from each other.
Regards,
-Commodore
Haven't hardly read it as I have to rush to work but I will send an "acknowledged" message as I play the turn and put my shoes on.
