Looks like we're voting to leave it up to the mapmaker, though we have several people calling for the SoZ and/or GLH being banned. Personally, I think the Pyramids should be made costly to build - put stone in contested areas and/or jungle it, or something to that effect. I think Commodore will be able to manage pretty well though. The guy has made a half dozen of the best maps on RB, and I feel sure he'll take wonders into account when making it and suggest banning any that really need to be.

Great to have you man Welcome aboard!

Cities - Pirate towns/landmarks?
Naval Units - Pirate Ships?
Military Land Units - Pirates?
Workers - Slaves? Or incase that is a bit touchy/bad taste, wenches?
Do we have enough names in each of those categories?
I feel like naming the workers slave might be a bit in bad taste. Looks promising though. I'll leave the specifics of our naming scheme up to more creative souls than I, but we should have little trouble coming up with names for everything.

We have a few things to work through as a team, preferably sometime today. So, if you're reading this right now, you should:
1. Review the 1st draft of the preferred team settings post: Team Pirate Preferred Settings First Draft If you have any last minute suggestions to make or opinions to share, post a comment.
2. Darrell's Tropical Trolls posted a fairly detailed map preferences answer. Arriving at a consensus on that got lost in our own settings discussion. In our first draft, I have written that we have no real map preference and trust Commodore to come up with something good. If you think we should change this answer or have a more detailed preference, make a post.
3. Vote for one of these three form access options:
T-Hawk Wrote:A) Fully private, only approved members let in. This would be set up just like the CFC demogame. You must specify one or more team captains to be in charge of approving requests. "Global lurkers" would apply to each team that wants this scheme.
B) Open to all logged in users. Not visible without a login.
C) Open to all, even without any login.
Lastly, if anyone has any further ideas for the naming scheme, go ahead and post them

I like trusting Commodore.
Either that, or a request for a map that matches the Spanish Main .
And I like option B among T-Hawks suggestions. Might bring in more lurkers. Although I'm also considering looking for that greasemonkey script someone wrote, to hide the other teams from myself.

I like option B as well. Getting anonymous lurkers to set up an account may end up encouraging them to start actively participating in the community which is always nice.
Game settings look good, although I'll miss poking fun at other teams in a banter thread. But ultimately it's not that important. Although as a LoL player the suggestion to to a round of bans before starting the snake picks is fun, ultimately I don't see how it's not going to just cause the usual suspects to be removed. So it's a bit of a needless addition; either we should vote to ban the power Civs/leaders, or just allow everything to be available. Heck, we might as well allow duplicate leaders/Civs and see which teams make the best decisions.
Map-wise.. I still don't really have preferences, although maybe that comes from the fun of going into a game where you have no idea what sort of land to expect. If I had to suggest anything I'd like to see a more water-heavy map (think I mentioned that already) to give naval units a more important role than they usually do. But ultimately as long as the map's balanced without being too artificial I'll be happy.

yeah option B sounds good

My thinking is that the pyramids (and therefore really stone) really depend on how we pick leaders. If everyone is allowed to grab a financial leader, then we can just spam cottages and the pyramids are kinda weak, so stone should be placed nearby. If FIN is banned, (or restricted to only weak leaders like Wang Kon) the pyramids become extremely powerful, and we should make a strong effort to grab them.
I also think the MoM is severely underrated by most players here, especially on fast moving maps where the extra golden age can really fill up a big chunk of the game's turns.

Yeah, I've been of the same opinion for a while now (actually, ever since WK made great use of it in PBEM 8). It's just so good for being able to get a decisive lead at your chosen point in the tech tree (first to rifles or infantry anyone?).

concerning forum access option b) sounds good. Threat of not being able to lurk anything partly brought me to register.
Lurking some of the games in the past, I felt some player held back on the spoilers, mostly concerning their plans for some kind of fear they would be read by the wrong people. So if option a) would alleviate some of that paranoia it might lead to a more interesting post game read. On the other hand this is totally different from the other games I lurked, in that there are truly teams playing a civilization and there is bound to be some discussion of plans and progress.
Map and settings are fine by me, but I think luddite raised a really good point concerning the pyramids and financial. Pryamids get a serious power creep when FIN is taken out of the picture. Either the decision on the leaders should be made before we settle on map and wonder bans or at least stone should be rather hard to get to. I also don't like taking out stone (and marble for that matter) completely, because it makes a lot of other things that much harder to build just on account of the pyramids.

MoM is definitely an awesome wonder. The bigger the map, the better it is.

Does anyone here actually know what that map of the Spanish Main is from? It's connection to this current endeavor is strong!
It really saddens my heart that in the 12 hours since posting it, no one has come forward recognizing what was truly one of the great masterpieces of our time.
Maybe that's just it - it was a masterpiece of Waterbat's time, maybe not OUR time. Yes, Waterbat is now an aged pirate - a shadow of his once swashbuckling self.
Waterbat volunteers for the job of the cranky old ex-pirate captain who tells stories of the times when pirates weren't pussies cats. Tales when aspiring privateers had to type their game programs into their computers before playing them. Tales when he battled over the chess board with the dreaded captain 80-086 and won. Tales of desperately taping over the notches in ye ol' floppy disks to win the heart of a fair maiden save game file.
Yes, Instead of retiring to a life fitting of the great wealth and booty acquired though-out his adventures, he contines to sail each season, chasing the fleeting dream of finding the fountain of youth.
Hoist the Colours and come about, ye Sid Meier's PIRATES! Let us go take what is there for the for taking, bed us some beautiful wenches, and conquer the world (or Commodore's version of it)
